Chapter Text
EXT. - LAKE
Smurfs can be seen doing various activities: swimming, jumping in the lake, playing smurfball, badminton, some making sandcastles, ... Caretaker, Lazy, and Impatient are finishing installing a picnic. Focus on them.
CARETAKER: (he's holding open a box with something inside) I don't think that's right...
IMPATIENT: Too bad, it's done! Eat them, now!
The camera focus on the inside of the box: several carbon colored round shapes that may have been cookies once.
CARETAKER: Yeah, no thanks. I don't like charcoal.
Impatient gasps in fake offence.
IMPATIENT: How dare you, when me and Lazy smurfed all our heart in baking these!
CARETAKER: Let me guess, Lazy was supposed to smurf the time?
Lazy snorts.
LAZY: You know he wouldn't trust me with that. He simply thought that if he smurfed it really hot for one minute, it would be the same as smurfing it for ten minutes.
IMPATIENT: It was worth a try.
The trio laughs, like three old friends.
---
EXT. - LAKE, LATER
Less smurfs are seen doing activities, as most are eating picnics now, or finishing setting up one. Caretaker, Impatient, and Lazy are in the middle of theirs.
Caretaker picks up a small container with a green foamy looking paste in it. He looks suspiciously at it, and sniffs.
CARETAKER, turning to Impatient: What's this?
IMPATIENT: Hummus. Uses chickpeas.
Caretaker's face scrunches in. Impatient and Lazy notice his frown, and laugh.
LAZY, smirking: Let me guess, you don't like chickpeas? (on these last words, his brows furrow and he crosses his arms, a startling Grouchy Smurf's imitation)
Impatient laughs again, but weaker; Caretaker scowls.
CARETAKER: I just don't get how you can smurf that. It tastes bad!
IMPATIENT : More for me then! (he goes to grab the hummus)
LAZY: Wait.
Lazy looks at Caretaker playfully. Then, in an unusually swift movement, he plucks his finger in the paste, and puts it on Caretaker's nose.
Caretaker looks offended, his friends laughing. Then Lazy is hit with a hand of hummus.
Focus on Caretaker who is smirking, some of the food still hanging on his hand.
IMPATIENT, sad: My hummus...
Impatient is flicked with hummus. This is war.
Impatient jumps on Caretaker, who extends his hand and grabs Lazy down with him. They "fight" like that for a while, some food and dirt getting lost on each other, before Lazy calls for a break.
All three lay on their back, Impatient and Caretaker giggling.
Impatient gets up on one arm, and looks at his friends.
IMPATIENT: Aaaaaand he's asleep.
CARETAKER: Huh?
Lazy snores.
Caretaker and Impatient exchange a look, and laugh.

EXT. - SPORT FIELD
The smurfs are playing smurfball. Impatient and Caretaker are on the same team, and Lazy watches the game, laying on the grass.
Dopey, on the opposite team, kicks the ball towards Hefty, not noticing Impatient is there to intercept. Imatient immediately shots the ball toward Caretaker, not waiting for him to notice. The ball curves upward. Lazy makes a sign to Caretaker, pointing in the direction the ball is coming, and Caretaker swipes his head towards it, too late. The ball hits him in the face.
CARETAKER: FU-
Impatient runs to him, followed by other smurfs close. The others watch from afar. Lazy gets up and walks towards his friend.
IMPATIENT: Caretaker, are you alright?! I'm so sorry! I thought you'd-
Caretaker doesn't say anything, but peeks through his hands on his hurting face to give Impatient an annoyed look. It startles Impatient, making him stop to talk.
IMPATIENT, mumbling: Sorry...
Caretaker is still upset, but at least less hurting as only one hand is on his face now, on the spot where the ball hit him.
CARETAKER: I hate smurfball.
He stomps away in a stunned silence.
SMURF #1: Is he... ok..?
SMURF #2: Yeah, it hurts like smurf, but it quickly smurfs down.
SMURF #1: No, I mean.... (he points to the side of his head, then does a few quick circling movements. He follows by furrowed browns.)
SMURF #2: Oh...
LAZY: (yawns) Don't worry, Caretaker's always smurfed like that. He normally doesn't like smurfball because Impatient always smurfs this and it hurts. Guess he forgot about it.
The other smurfs sigh in relief, and a few exchange about remembering about this fact now.

INT. - CARETAKER'S HOUSE
Baby smurf is on a carpet in the middle of the room, playing with toys. The walls are brightly decorated with drawings, children's ones on the same level of importance as Painter's. There are colorful banners all around, and animals, flowers, clouds, mountains, are painted on the walls. The curtains are decirated wit birds. Even the carpet Baby is on is special, representing a simplified top view of the village. Everything seems to have been done to put more joy in the otherwise boring house, its old owner not bothering to decorate.
Caretaker is finishing a panade, when a knock is heard on the door. He turns away from his preparation, smiles at Baby as he walks past, and opens the door.
CARETAKER: Hello Smurfette!
SMURFETTE: Hello Caretaker! Since everyone left for the barrage, I smurfed us a meal for lunch, and brought some flowers on the way! Mind if I come in?
CARETAKER: (he smiles, and bows, opening the door wide) It'd be my pleasure, Smurfette.
She giggles, and enters. On her way to the table, she kneels next to Baby to kiss him on the forehead. Baby claps his hands and smiles in return. Smurfette goes to put her basket and flowers on the table, followed by Caretaker, who picks up Baby.
CARETAKER: You arrive right on time, I was making food for Baby Smurf.
SMURFETTE: Do you need help to finish?
CARETAKER: No, don't worry! Everything's smurfy!
SMURFETTE: Alright...
Caretaker puts Baby in his chair, and quickly goes to the kitchen. Smurfette is watching him, her head tilted to the side. Then, a small hand hits her arm, and she looks at Baby who's giving her big eyes, as if to ask "Are you going to pay attention to me?"
With a laugh, Smurfette goes to tickle him.

EXT. - SMURF VILLAGE CENTER - EVENING
A party is happening; tables filled with food and drink draws a clear area for the happening, musicians play on a stage, smurfs are chatting, dancing, eating. Everyone is having a lot of fun.
Caretaker is talking with Impatient, Vanity, and Lazy, Dreamy distractedly listening in. Smurfette arrives and with an extended hand, offers Vanity to come dance with her , although we can't hear her because of the music. Vanity accepts and they both leave to rock out on the dancing floor. Dreamy's attention get stolen away by another smurf, timidly asking for something. Dreamy isn't hearing him, and looks confused. The other smurf blushes, tries to say more, but stay unheard. Dreamy grabs his arm and drags him further away from the music to hear.
The remaining trio look at each other and laugh.
They go back to their chat, but soon enough, Impatient taps on Lazy's shoulder. He points towards a smurf setting up blue flags on stage, behing the band who started to play a song with a calmer beat. Lazy smiles and nods, then grabs Caretaker's wrist, surprising him. The three walk towards the stage, and the band wraps up its music.
SLAMMY: Now everyone, I know you just can't smurf enough of me, but we need to stop to let Papa Smurf talks! If you want more of us, we are signing what you bring us, don't worry!
METEORITE: But not before we're done listening to Papa Smurf (she gives a warning glance to Slammy)
SLAMMY: Not before that, of course. (he winks at the audience)
Meteorite and Rocky roll their eyes.
The band leaves the stage, and Papa Smurf goes on it. From the other side, Caretaker is pushed on stage by Lazy and Impatient.
Papa Smurf smiles fongly seeing them. He then turns to the crowd, Caretaker walking towards him.
PAPA: My little smurfs! Like any of you, I do not think a reason is needed for a good party, but this one today is of smurfy meaning. (he turns towards Caretaker, and holds his hand to bring him upfront) Indeed, today, it's been one month since Caretaker Smurf has been back with us!
Cheers rise from the crowd, with shouts of congratulations and "you go, Caretaker!'. Caretaker blushes from the attention.
PAPA: (he turns to Caretaker) Caretaker, I can't begin to smurf how overjoyed I am to see you so happy and thriving. For years it felt like I could do nothing to help you, but now, look at you! You're a part of our village, and I couldn't be happier to see you smile. I'm proud of you.
CARETAKER, with a soft smile: Thank you, Papa Smurf. I'm happy too.
Papa Smurf smiles, and hugs his little smurf, under the clappings of the others.
He turns back to the crowd.
PAPA: Now, in hope of happiness for the next hundredth years, let's smurf this party!
Even louder cheers are emitted. Papa Smurf walks Caretaker back to his friends, and a new band goes on stage, all the smurfs getting ready to dance again.

EXT.- ?????? - SAME TIME
In the deep, dark woods, a tree, of thousands of tiny, crooky trunks, looking dead yet sturdy, is standing, leafless. A pinkish light is emanating from the inside of the construction, pulsating faintly.
Suddenly, a pulse is stronger than the other, filling the screen entirely with white. Then, it dies down, and as quick as it started, it's over. A humanoid figure in the dark, seen from the back, stands still. His features are barely distinguishable in the night, but the faint glow from the tree illuminates his face enough to see it frozen in fear.
STRANGER, whispering: I need to warn the captain.
