“Get up. Raise up. Wake up!” A voice demanded. Slowly a blueish grey creature opened its eyes. “Good.” A man grinned. This man along with his friends worked to create the perfect killing machine. They already had the Vex but they wanted to have the ultimate Vex. A Vex that was hard to take down, one that would always listen to orders and one that would not stop hunting its enemy until they were dead. So they created this new Vex. It looked like a regular Vex but it cost extra power to summon during battle. There was a point where they were close and the people had two super Vexes. But one of them failed so they did what they thought was best. They combined the failed one and the successful one. Soon after that, they got the now ultimate Vex. There was only one of the ultimate Vex but damn was it so powerful. They all agreed that they might try to create more. While the ultimate Vex wasn’t being used to fight, it was forced inside of a cage. A cage that was much like the one for iron golems and other creatures. They all knew it could phase through blocks but it didn’t because it needed orders.
The people continued to poke at it and test it. They needed to know all the things it could do and what the limits were. The thing that they never expected was the fact that the ultimate Vex began to grow more human-like. It came to look like a human and could also look like Vex when it pleased. The people guessed the reason was the soul that they had given the Vex. The ultimate Vex could speak but it did not know many words because the only words it picked up on were ones said around the Vex. Everything was going perfectly. They even learned that the ultimate Vex could take down an iron golem! A day came when a person came to them and looked around then left. Day later, that one human would come back with more humans. But instead of talking about something, they all killed the people that created the ultimate Vex. The humans raided the tower for anything they could get. The first human went to the cage he saw before. This time instead of seeing a human sized Vex, he saw a human. Instantly the human broke the cage.
The ultimate Vex quickly stood up and changed to Vex. It thought it was going to get called to help fight. “Well that’s interesting.” The human nodded. “Well, hello. I’m Cub.” Cub said, the creature tilted its head. “Do you have a name, kid?” Cub questioned and it shook its head. “That’s fine. You’ll find one eventually.” Cub smiled. Cub shouted to his friends then left with them all. The ultimate Vex stood there a while before going to find a name and a new home. The Vex was left to wander the great wide world. This Vex was like a child, it didn’t know better or anything. So to be thrown from being forced to obey orders to being on its own to almost being eaten by zombies was one wild ride. It’d be many, many years before this Vex found Cub again. This time, Cub welcomed him to a new place. A place full of people and no zombies. The Vex was officially crowned as one of the Hermits by Xisuma. Xisuma welcomed the Vex with open arms. It was because of Cub and Xisuma that the Vex finally got its name. From then on, it was known as Scar. Scar believed if you told past him all this stuff happened to him, he wouldn’t believe you. Then would probably kill you because he was told to.
While before joining Hermitcraft, Scar had learned to live, he didn’t know how to make friends. He was alone from the moment he was made to the moment he joined Hermitcraft. Cub was the one who became Scar’s first friend then Xisuma then eventually everyone else. It was thanks to Cub that Scar learned the things he did. Scar learned his love for building and landscaping because of Cub. Also learned that candy was a thing and it was just sweet enough to calm the Vex side of him. And since learning that, each new world of Hermitcraft he hid candy everywhere. Scar loved Hermitcraft and his friends more than anything. He would do anything to stay here and be happy forever.
Another thing about Scar is that his memory is a crazy thing. He could remember something in full detail down to the smallest thing. But most of the time, Scar could not remember anything. Even if he was told many times, he’d still forget. He always forgets how to say or spell words correctly. Scar constantly forgets what he did, who he talked to that day. Some days he worries that he was supposed to meet up with someone. He hopes not, he never wants to disappoint anyone by forgetting and not showing up. Other Hermits slightly joke about it but they don’t mean any harm to it. They joke about it because there will be one moment when Scar could explain the littlest detail then the next he would forget what they were talking about. Oftentimes, this came with everything being a distraction to Scar. If Scar’s mind wasn’t set on one single thing, then literally everything was going to distract him. He could be in the most serious conversation but there goes a leaf falling from a tree.
"Scar, are you even listening to me?" A hermit would question him. “Oh, yes! I am!” Scar would reply every time. But he would get tripped up if the hermit asked him what they just said. He swears that does listen. He's trying to! He just doesn't know when he stopped listening. Why was it so hard? Why was it so hard to focus on what his friends were saying? All Scar wants is to be a good friend! He honestly didn’t understand why he wasn’t like everyone else. He wants to be “normal”! There would be times Scar found himself sobbing his heart out, but he never remembers why. His whole chest would hurt and he'll have no idea what happened to him, what got him so upset. Maybe it was the fact that he couldn't remember anything, that made him so upset. The worst times were during the Life Games. He would forget who was an ally and who was an enemy. He’d forget how many lives he had left. Forget what Red Lives were supposed to do. And most importantly if he upset someone badly, Scar would have no idea why the person was an enemy. The worst was Last Life because there were more things to remember and he no longer had Grian always by his side.
Now in the present times, Scar is known as one of the brightest hermits ever. Majority of the time he is seen smiling. Scar cares for all his friends equally, he would do anything for them. Except for talking about his past, he doesn’t want to remember the horrors of his past. But some of the habits he started back then, he still deals with today. Currently it is the ninth world of the universe called Hermitcraft. This time, Scar planned to be an elf that was building the best theme park ever, Scarland. There will be shops, restaurants, rides and of course, a giant castle. He had such a huge idea and he knew he would be proud of it once it’s finished. Everyone got to quick work to build their starter bases. Scar being Scar didn’t really know the meaning of a starter base so he made a giant tree as his first home in the new world. He was an elf so it made sense to him to make a tree. Scar may dress up and claim he’s all these different things, like he’s a wizard or he’s an elf. But we all know that he’s really a Vex.
Being someone who is a Vex meant a few different things. It meant that Scar had to have candy hidden absolutely everywhere. Every Hermit base, shop and starter base. Because something else, something worse might just happen and he did not want anyone to know of that. Of course the only one who knew about the real reason Scar needed candy everywhere was Cub. Who knows the real reason Scar trusted Cub so much. Maybe it was because Cub rescued Scar. Or maybe it was because Cub was the closest thing to a Vex that Scar knew personally. All the other Vexes just saw him as a human that they needed to kill. Scar could never bring himself to kill a Vex. He knew he was once like them, just being summoned to obey orders that were given. So he convinced himself to never kill one, ever.
Around the time Ren had become king, Scar decided he should become a superhero of sorts. He thought it’d be a little different and a fun thing to do. For a while he acted as a hero called HotGuy. He was known for his powerful bow, he could one shot kill anyone. Scar doesn’t remember when he did but at some point, he joined King Ren’s court. And that's when it started again. Scar could be doing one thing, blink then suddenly be elsewhere. It confused Scar as he could be working on Scarland one day then the next thing he knows, it’s days later and he’s standing in front of Ren’s throne. Yes he has a bad memory but he still guess what he was doing during the forgotten times. But during this, it felt as if Scar wasn’t there at all. Scar just tried to convince himself that it was his bad memory and nothing was wrong with him at all. No matter how hard Scar tries to convince himself of it, he always doesn’t fully believe it.
It would be easier to believe if this was the first time it happened. But it’s not. It happened many times, he would not remember anything then learn he made something Vex themed. It happened back in the sixth world when he and Cub were going to create ConCorp together. Scar just knows ConCorp was planning then it was the end of that world. It happened yet again in the seventh world. Scar started out as a simple wizard who then applied to be mayor of the shopping district. He remembers waiting to hear who won and then he was starting AquaTown. Then the last it had happened was during Last Life, there would be just random times missing. Scar didn’t even feel like he was there for any of the deaths he experienced. And now, it is happening yet again. He so badly wished he could just shrug it off and act like it wasn't happening. But he knows that he can't do that because it is happening. And this time for some reason, he was aware he was missing days. Before he brushed it off, now he can’t.
Scar was just finishing up working on a shop when a fellow hermit came by. “Hey Scar!” A voice called out. Scar looked around him then he saw Pearl land right next to him. “Oh hello!” Scar smiled. “I have a question. And I’m a bit confused.” She told him. “What's up?” Scar tilted his head slightly. “Why did you “HotGuy” me yesterday?” Pearl asked. Scar furrowed his brow as he tried to remember yesterday. He didn’t remember yesterday, he hasn’t dressed as HotGuy in quite a while. “I don’t remember yesterday. And it’s been quite a bit since I dressed as HotGuy.” Scar said to her. Pearl just hummed, she didn’t really believe Scar. She could prove that Scar HotGuyed them yesterday if Xisuma went into the codes and found the old chat logs. But she didn’t want to bother Xisuma with all that. “Maybe it was another Hermit playing a prank.” Pearl shrugged. “Maybe.” Scar nodded in agreement. Pearl just got out rockets and flew off into the sky. Scar just went back to working on Scarland.
“Remember Scar! I want their heads basically on a silver platter!” Scar heard King Ren shouted and walked out of the castle. Scar shook his head and looked at his outfit. He was in his HotGuy uniform. He doesn’t remember putting this on, he just remembers that he was feeding Jellie. Scar was about to head home when Bdubs appeared. “How dareth of you sell me out?” Bdubs questioned him. Scar just looked at him confused. “I know who I am to our King Ren. But how dareth you!” Bdubs exclaimed. “I’m really sorry Bdubs. I just don’t remember.” Scar told him. Bdubs put his hands on his hips and tilted his head. Bdubs squinted his eyes slightly and stared at Scar. “Are you telling the truth?” Bdubs asked and Scar nodded. Bdubs was going to say something but King Ren called for Bdubs and he went running to the king. Scar went on to go home and change out of his HotGuy outfit. Jellie meowed and walked around Scar. And she kept meowing until Scar fed her. Scar did get slightly worried, feeling that maybe he doesn’t feed Jellie during these missing times, but he was sure he does.
At first, Scar thought having this superhero identity would be a fun idea. He never expected it to become a problem for him or any other Hermits. The problem was that Hermits were saying that Scar was dressing as HotGuy and hunting them down and “HotGuyed” them. Scar was told that he was and quote, “doing this for our King Ren”. Scar even overheard a couple hermits whisper that Scar is acting like he was during his mayorship. What was he like during mayorship? He didn’t know. He wanted to know. He didn’t understand what was happening. He was confused. No matter what the world or what happened, hermits always trusted hermits. So it was all just fun and games, Scar even believed it too. It was just fun and games. It was just fun and games. It was just fun and games. Scar would repeat those words to himself every time he felt himself start to worry. The only ones who didn’t seem actually worried about HotGuy were King Ren, Doc and Grian.
Scar was walking around Scarland when Grian came from almost nowhere. “Scar!” Grian said in a panicked voice. Scar hummed and looked at him. “I- Stop me starting a resistance! Just stop me!” Grian begged Scar. “Alright, this is a very serious matter. Let’s relax and how about you tell me how this resistance makes you feel.” Scar told Grian. Surely if he acted calm, he could in return make Grian feel calm. Grian took a deep breath in. “Scar, if you don’t do something right now. I’m gonna start a resistance. By the name of the “holy” Watchers, I swear I will.” Grian said in a slightly calmed voice. Scar thought about what he could possibly do to help Grian. Usually Grian is all for making resistances or so he had heard. So, why doesn’t he want to make one in this world? Oh whatever the reason, Scar needed to help his friend. Scar was about to suggest something when he blinked and Grian was suddenly hugging him. “Thanks Scar. I knew I could always trust you.”Grian told him before leaving. “You’re welcome?” Scar said with confusion. He didn’t remember what he did to help Grian but hey, at least he did.
It was a day when Scar woke up early and got an early start to working on Scarland. He was looking at some decorations, trying to figure out what needed to be fixed. Jellie meowed as she was sitting right next to him. “I know, right? Something is clearly wrong!” Scar talked to the cat. Scar kept thinking and then he straightened his back. After being in a zombie apocalypse and two Life games, Scar sort of developed a sense of knowing when he wasn’t alone. He didn't hear someone call out his name or hear the sound of rockets. It was early morning but not dark enough for mobs to spawn. "Hello, Scar." Someone spoke from beside him. The voice sounded familiar, it was very much like his own. Scar turned his head to see himself in his HotGuy uniform and obviously very Vex-like. It was a bit odd to see HotGuy having Vex features because that's not at all how Scar originally imagined HotGuy. The man grinned, a wicked grin. A grin that was of someone who is villain like and not a hero. "It's been awhile. How about we have a little chat?" he questioned as he threw an arm around Scar’s shoulder. It felt more like a demand because Scar couldn’t do anything but nod.
He took Scar over to one of the for now empty shops. “Who are you?” Scar stuttered as he was finally able to speak. “Oh don’t worry about that. You can just call me HotGuy.” HotGuy told him. Scar looked around. Was there another hermit around and pranking him? No, this didn’t feel like a prank. Scar wasn’t sleep deprived, he knew that very much. Scar wondered if he should try to book it out of the place and talk to someone. Maybe Xisuma would be a great person to talk to, maybe even Grian or possibly Mumbo. “Are you even listening to me?” HotGuy asked, rudely. “No, I wasn't,” Scar replied. “Of course.” HotGuy scoffed. Scar was a bit surprised that he said no instead of yes. Scar couldn’t look at HotGuy, it didn’t feel right to look at him. “Why are you here? How did you get here?” Scar questioned him. “Oh, Scar. We both know you already know the answers.” HotGuy grinned. But Scar didn’t, he swore he didn’t know the answers. Who was this person? Why does Scar feel like he knows him? Then it all clicked, things had finally made sense.
“You. It’s always been you.” Scar realised. HotGuy didn’t say anything, just kept grinning. HotGuy didn’t really have a name. It was just a being that had always been with Scar since the moment he was created. This being was the one that caused the missing times in Scar’s life. It was like he could just suddenly take control over Scar whenever he pleased. HotGuy was the one who worked on ConCorp, he was the one who became Mayor, he was the one who was mainly the wizard in Last Life. And he is HotGuy. Scar slowly looked up at HotGuy. “You’re just me.” Scar said. HotGuy seemed to debate it for a moment. “More like the better version of you. I don’t care much for your little friends besides Jellie and Cub. Cub is just such a good businessman, he really has the correct ideas. And he can really be evil like a Vex. But other than that, I care for Nothing. I’m not weak like you.” HotGuy said and glared at Scar. “I am not weak!” Scar shouted.
“Scar? Are you alright?” Someone questioned. Scar quickly turned around and saw Cleo standing in the doorway of the shop. Scar didn't know what he could say. He looked behind him at HotGuy then at Cleo then back to HitGuy. She couldn’t see him at all and he was just grinning like a mad man. Was Scar finally going crazy? “Scar?” Cleo asked and he looked at her.. Scar opened his mouth to say something when he heard HotGuy right next to him. “You tell her or anyone about me. I will kill one of your friends permanently.” HotGuy threatening whispered in Scar’s ear. Scar just smiled at Cleo. “I am just really tired, is all. I was up all night.” He lied. Luckily for him, Cleo bought it. “Alright, well. If you feel awake enough then join King Ren in a meeting.” Cleo said before taking off. “It’s my time to shine.” Scar heard before everything went black. It was different this time, Scar knew exactly what was happening.
It seemed since Scar finally noticed HotGuy, he only got more sinister. What started out as just simple jokes of Hermits getting “HotGuyed” has evolved into something worse. Scar sat down on his bed, he just needed a break. He was so tired that he didn’t notice anyone else in his room. “It’s rude to ignore people.” A voice said then Scar felt someone get on the bed beside him. He instantly knew who it was, it was HotGuy. Scar just stared down at the ground, refusing to look or acknowledge HotGuy. HotGuy placed his hands on Scar’s shoulders and rested his chin on one of his hands. “Come on, Scar. Let me have some of my fun.” HotGuy half begged. Scar pushed off HotGuy and stood up. “No! You’ll just get me into trouble!” Scar shouted. He just rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “It’s not like anyone can stay dead, we all respawn.” HotGuy said. Scar didn’t want to hear it from HotGuy, he tried to walk away. But HotGuy jumped up, grabbed Scar by the wrist and pulled him back. “HotGuy! I said no!” Scar yelled. Scar saw Jellie but instead of him, Jellie rubbed up against HotGuy. “Jellie?” Scar questioned. HotGuy picked up Jellie. “Yes Jellie, I will give you wonderful treats before I leave.” He said as he walked away. Scar ran after them, Scar was about to say something when HotGuy snapped his fingers and Scar was sent away. Now unable to stop HotGuy from doing anything.
Eventually it came to a point where they assumed that something was wrong with Scar because he’s never usually like this. And so everyone took a turn trying to investigate. but as people know Vexes can both phase through walls and track you through them, and no one comes out successful. They soon gave up because HotGuy started to hunt everyone to kill them. Scar could beg and beg HotGuy to leave his friends alone. But HotGuy would wave off Scar and ignore the pleas. There were times where Scar would try to tell Xisuma, Grian or Mumbo but HotGuy would appear, tightly grip his shoulders and remind Scar of his threat. When HotGuy threatens to permanently kill one of Scar’s friends, he means it. He will do it and everyone will just think it was Scar. In the eyes of everyone else, Scar went mad. He went crazy, if only he could just tell them all the truth. All Scar could do is just stand by and watch as HotGuy goes wild. Scar always hugged Jellie afterwards. Scar would sob and rant to Jellie because that’s the only one he could speak to. HotGuy could care less if Scar talked to Jellie. Jellie wasn’t a person who could spill Scar’s secret. She could only meow and no one understood cat language.
Scar didn’t want to acknowledge it but he knew because of HotGuy’s actions, he was driving his friends away. “Scar is becoming a Monster.”, “can we trust him anymore?” Scar would hear the whispers made about him. They were right. He was becoming a monster. HotGuy was hoping for a catastrophe and oh boy, he sure did get one. But out of everyone there was one hermit who didn’t see him as a monster was Grian. Grian noticed things were wrong about Scar. Well everyone saw Scar become worse. But Grian didn’t see it like everyone else did. Grian had a hunch that Scar was being manipulated in some way by who knows what. Grian saw the signs. The denying, the fake excuses, the running away, Grian knew it all. He was and still sort of is a Watcher. Watchers will lie and cheat and demand their way into anything. They will do anything to get exactly what they want out of people. At first, Grian thought that maybe a Watcher was controlling Scar but he would have known about another Watcher. So if it wasn’t a Watcher, then what is it? Listeners don’t really interact with worlds. The only Listeners were Martyn and Jimmy but they weren’t even in Hermitcraft.
Scar was only getting worse, becoming closed off from everyone. Grian tried to rack his brain for what the heck could be happening. He wants to bring it up to Scar but he fears that it might cause trouble for Scar or maybe another Hermit. So he keeps quiet and does something he hates. Grian watches. He watches Scar from afar, he sees everything. He sees but cannot hear Scar having conversations with seemingly no one. He gets mad at the air, no one is there but to Scar there is. Many times, Grian would see Scar have a fight with the air then have a breakdown. A couple times, Grian went to try and comfort Scar but just smiled and said nothing was wrong. It got to the point where Grian debated if he should talk to Xisuma or Mumbo. Mumbo was their closest friend and Xisuma was the admin of this universe, surely he noticed something. But bringing one or both of them could end up not so well. Grian debated it for so many days. In the end, Grian decided to bring them in. Grian planned a meeting as far as he could from any place that Scar could show up.
That means it was away from the shopping district, Scarland and the villager trading halls. And most importantly they were away from any of the hermits bases. “Welcome men.” Grian greeted Xisuma and Mumbo as they arrived. The room was nothing special. It was just an area under the ground dug out. “So what’s this about?” Mumbo asked and Xisuma just looked around. “I want to talk about Scar.” Grian said. “Thank goodness I wasn’t the only one who noticed this was weird.” Xisuma sighed out of relief. Mumbo just looked a bit confused, he hadn't really been paying attention to things that were happening. Xisuma and Grian explained to Mumbo what was happening. The trio all agreed that something was up and it was weird. In the room we have a Watcher, an Admin and a redstoner. What could they possibly do? They don’t really know but they’ll figure out something. They spent hours trying to brainstorm.
They really had nothing. “It seems when Scar dresses as HotGuy, he looks to be Vex. If only we could somehow remove the Vex from him.” Mumbo mumbled. Xisuma and Grian exchanged looks. “Could that be possible?” Grian questioned. “I don’t know.” Xisuma shrugged. They could always try to do something. Surely they could do something with a Watcher and an Admin. So together they worked up a plan. A plan where they could catch Scar and finally do something about it. They acted as if they had nothing planned. They dealt with Scar just like any other did. Then finally came a day where the trio will confront Scar. They knew Scar was in Scarland. Xisuma and Grian would do their thing while Mumbo distracted Scar. And distract Scar, Mumbo shall do. He will do it by any means he has to.
“Ello Scar!” Mumbo called out as he landed near Scar. “Hello Mumbo!” Scar greeted as he was snacking on some candy. Mumbo couldn’t see HotGuy of course but boy did HotGuy look annoyed. Mumbo hadn’t even done anything yet! And HotGuy already wanted to get Scar away. “I see you’ve been improving a lot on Scarland.” Mumbo pointed out. “Yep. Eventually, it’ll be so big. With shops and rides and just a little bit of everything.” Scar smiled. “I see.” Mumbo nodded. Mumbo just got Scar talking about anything. He also kept an eye out for the signal from Xisuma or Grian. HotGuy groaned, he was getting bored and wanted to leave. “I want to leave Scar.” HotGuy complained. Scar just ignored him and kept talking to Mumbo. HotGuy furrowed his brow. “Don’t make me force things, Scar. Because you know I will.” HotGuy demanded. Scar just stopped talking. Mumbo noticed this but still kept talking. No one gave a signal, he HAS to be a distraction. “I have to go feed Jellie. Cya later Mumbo.” Scar lied and went to fly off.
Mumbo grabbed and pulled the rockets away from Scar. Scar just stared at him and Mumbo stared right back. Well, Mumbo didn’t stare at Scar in the eyes but still he did. “Give those back.” Scar demanded. That wasn’t Scar no more, Mumbo sees the Vex features on Scar. “No.” Mumbo shook his head. “Please Don’t hurt him!” Scar begged even though he knew HotGuy wasn’t going to listen. Mumbo looked away to see Xisuma give the signal. “You gotta chase me.” Mumbo said before running. Luckily, HotGuy chased after Mumbo. Mumbo led HotGuy around and he chased after Mumbo, not giving up. Mumbo ran right into an empty shop with HotGuy right behind him. “Grian! Xisuma! Now!” Mumbo shouted loudly. And that was the last thing HotGuy and Scar heard before everything went black for the both of them. The trio was happy that the distraction and chase plan was such a success. But now it was just up to Grian and Xisuma to finish up the whole plan.
“Scar? Can you hear me?” Scar heard someone question. He groaned as he sat up, his head was slightly pounding. This has to be a bad headache. “He’s alive!” another voice exclaimed. Scar was confused, he didn’t remember what was happening. “How are you feeling, Scar?” a third voice asked. Scar looked up to see Xisuma, Grian and Mumbo around him. Scar blinked a couple times. “Why are you three here? What happened?” Scar questioned. The trio looked at each other. “I came here to find you passed out and I panicked called Grian who in turn called Xisuma.” Mumbo explained to Scar. Scar slowly nodded, his head still hurting a bit. “It seemed like you had been building for days without sleep.” Xisuma said that made sense to Scar. “We see you are good, so we’ll be leaving.” Grian said then they all left. When they were away from Scar that sighed and were so glad that everything worked out just fine. Scar not remembering was just a little bonus.
The three got word out to other hermits and told them to forget everything so as to not worry Scar or make him upset. So, things in Hermitcraft went back to normal. Scar still acted like a superhero because he said it was a grand idea and everyone just agreed. This time, nothing bad happened, it was actually just fun and games. King Ren’s reign came and went and Scar was there almost the whole time. They had even gone to a whole other universe that had Empires! It was on a day where Scar was working on the environment around Scarland. Scar was just humming some Disney song. Scar stopped to stand somewhere to see his recent work, still humming. Hands on his hips, he debated if he liked what he just did. Scar stopped humming as he felt a chill up his spine and felt hands on his shoulders. Then he heard the worst voice ever whisper to him. “Did you miss me?”
