Work Text:

"Hamilton?"

His hiding place had been discovered. And, even worse, by Jefferson. What on earth was he supposed to do now? This was the last thing he needed to worry about right now.

"Hamilton?" Jefferson asked again, warily.

Alexander was curled into a ball in the corner of a conference room that was hardly ever used. Why had Jefferson even come in here in the first place?

"Hamilton, are you okay?"

He was shivering and his breathing was shallow.

"Alexander."

This caused Alex to look up at Jefferson for the first time since he entered the room.

Jefferson kneeled down beside Alex. "Follow my breathing, okay?"

Alexander nodded, wondering why Jefferson was still with him.

"Okay. In...out...in...out." They went on like this for quite a while, until Alex finally calmed down. He let his head fall on Jefferson's chest. He'd already seen Alex in his worse state, so Alex didn't really care anymore.

After some time of them sitting like that, Jefferson stroking Alexander's hair, Alex sat up. "I-"

"No, stop. You don't have to explain yourself to me. I understand."

"You-you have them, too?"

"Yeah. I have since I was a child. It's not really something I make publicly known, though." He laughed, which, in turn, caused Alex to laugh, which is how Washington found them when he walked in.

They both stopped laughing and stood up at the sound of the door opening, but Washington could still see the blushes creeping up their cheeks.

"Look, I, erm-" he cleared his throat. "I don't need to know what you boys were doing in here-"

"Sir, it's not what it-"

"You don't have to explain yourselves. I'm just glad that you too are finally getting along. Maybe the cabinet meetings will be a little calmer now."

"Oh, I don't think they'll ever be calmer," Jefferson said, winking at Alexander.
