Chapter Text
Kaede was staring at her sheet music as she looked at the keyboard that was set by the pool, waterproof speakers placed inside by her upper class man. “Hmm… maybe I need to change this to a minor key… and that one to a major key at B…”
“Whatcha talking about, Kaede?” a peppy voice asked as Kaede looked up from her seat… and quickly looked up higher since she was seeing Aoi Asahina in a dark blue school swimsuit, giving a smile.
“Oh, hey Hina. You’re early,” Kaede said with a smile.
“Yeah. I wanted to get in some warmups before practice.” Hina then noticed the keyboard set up, and tilted her head. “What’s this stuff for?”
“Oh I was borrowing the spare pool to try to write a piece that sounds like you’re underwater,” Kaede explained.
“I see…!” Aoi answered, testing the water. She then started to stretch a bit, getting herself limber. Innocently unaware of the… show she was giving Kaede, who’s face erupted into a pink bulb. Immediately, she turned back to her work, trying to focus.
“Here we go…” Kaede said as she started to read over her blank paper, hearing Aoi’s grunts of effort as she was stretching out, moving the paper more and more over her head to try and not look up as she read over the sheet she was holding.
She needed to write something down…
“Whatcha doing now?” Aoi asked, turning over as she saw Kaede was scribbling in a notebook.
“Oh, just uh… writing something for the symphony…” Kaede said as she looked up… and blushed as she saw Aoi was leaning over to look into the water curiously, and had to quickly look down so she wouldn’t be staring.
“Hmm… you sure this is going to work? Gonna need someone who can hold their breath for a while…” Aoi tapped her chin in thought as she got her body straight, before an idea popped. “Ah! Idea! Maybe I can go under and listen in?”
“Oh, that should be good…” Kaede said, her cheeks bright pink still as she walked over to the keyboard. Aoi dived into the water after letting her hair down, looking up at her. And with that, Kaede just… began playing. She tried her best to emulate the notes that were coming to her as Aoi swam.
Aoi took a deep breath as she swam around under water, and she could hear the vibrations in the water. What was shocking to her is that she can hear the music clear as day under water thanks to the speakers under water.
She quickly swam up and looked at Kaede with a grin, “I can hear it!” Kaede giggled at her excitement, smiling at her.
“Yeah, according to Miu, water can actually hold sound rather well. It’s just that playing a piano under water is kinda… not that good since it absorbs most of the vibrations. So that’s why I am doing it this way,” Kaede explained as Aoi pressed her arms on the side of the pool.
“Wow, you two are pretty smart. I don’t think I could have found a creative thing to do with that,” Aoi admitted, looking up at Kaede. She saw Kaede’s face turn red at the praise.
“Ehehehe… thanks…” Kaede said as she cleared her throat, trying to not stare at her as Aoi just blinked, confused.
“You okay? You’ve been acting kinda funny,” Aoi asked as Kaede mentally panicked at her noticing.
“I-I’m fine!” Kaede hastily answered, before returning to the piano. She went back to writing the music, and Aoi went back to swimming. There was some tension in the air… but neither girl feels able to confront that tension at the moment.
