‘Hm, when’s Dante gonna come home?’
You had been waiting at Devil May Cry for a whole day already; you did the shop’s overdue chores, played around with the instruments and jukebox and well, laying around the shop. Dante had told you he has a job that might take slightly longer than usual today, and to turn in early without waiting for him to come back. Knowing your stubborn side, you wanted to greet him as soon as you see him enter, perhaps with torn up clothes and being covered in dried demon blood.
You made enough dinner for both of you, left Dante’s portion on his table and covered it up with cling-wrap, while you took your portion to the coffee table. Today had been boring without the demon hunter around; his presence livens up the shop’s atmosphere, so without him around, no amount of entertainment could amuse you enough. You ate your dinner while thinking of what kind of demon-hunting job he is clearing up.
After clearing up your plate, you went to the jukebox and queued up some slow tunes to ease the silence in the shop. You threw yourself into the sofa, staring at the doors while savouring the music being played. That was all you could really do at the moment; books were not your thing and the TV had to break down the day before. You waited, and waited, and waited, until it was going to be bedtime.
You started to feel drowsy from tiredness, but tried to fight back the urge through whatever methods you had; walking around the shop, pinching yourself, and talking to yourself on whatever topics that popped off. All those proved to be useless when your body said it was time. You fell asleep on the sofa, still facing the doors.
An hour passed, and Dante returned from his job feeling pretty tired out too. He was puzzled to see why were the shop lights still on (he’s fearing his electricity bills too), knowing that you could not possibly be energized enough to do something at that timing of the night. Dante entered his office, and there you were, already snoozing on the sofa without a care in the world. ‘Thought I told her to not wait for me, silly girl,’ Dante whispered. He turned to his table and saw cling-wrapped food waiting for him. His stomach grumbled at the sight of the simple 3-dish meal that was prepared, and chuckled, ‘why, thank you for leaving some for me.’
Dante went to you and squatted to see your sleeping face. He patted your head softly, and you subconsciously smiled a little, as if you were responding back to his pats. He could not help but smile back at you with a loving look in his eyes. ‘Time to carry this big girl back to where she is supposed to be,’ Dante expressed. He scooped you up in him arms in princess style, and brought you to bed. He was reluctant to leave you since you snuggled so close to him throughout, but he really needs his dinner and wash up to do before joining you in bed. He placed the covers over you before leaving for the food waiting downstairs.
Dante went to take a quick shower, at least enough to get rid of the demon blood off him. Fresh from the bathroom, he went to his table to have his fill of food. While eating, he was thinking of what you might have been doing the whole day without him around; he could see the office was much cleaner, so that’s one. He also saw the jukebox was switched on too, and that makes two. Dante felt bad there was nothing for you to do in the shop generally and wondered how did you entertain yourself the whole day.
Dante finished his meal and cleaned up his utensils before heading to bed. He made his way to the shared bedroom and saw your sleeping self illuminated by the moonlight. ‘What a beautiful woman I got to be in love with,’ Dante thought. He carefully entered the bed to not wake you up, and gave a little kiss to your forehead.
‘Goodnight, sweet dreams.’
