Chattering and loud scraping of plates, children excitedly yelling as the first plates of food were served. The smell of meat, spices, and... something burnt. It was overwhelming to Grey who had noticed everything from outside the building, taking his time, straightening his posture, and making sure Fujin was ready by nodding back and forth. A deep breath in and he opened the door, which was always left unlocked since the place was rather desolated, and immediately he was greeted with excitement from everyone. His brother hugging him and patting him on the back, simply going for a handshake when greeting Fujin. His cousins nearly dropped their food as they ran towards Fujin, his niece slower behind choosing to greet him first before letting herself be picked up by Fujin. And his aunt screeching excitedly from the kitchen. The rest simply going for a head nod or a simple handshake.
The family that was present at the event was rather large so when he finally got to greet everyone and have small talk the food was nearly gone and cold but despite this, he was smiling as he took one of the plates.
"Oh, this one's for you, Nightwolf." His aunt playfully snatched the plate from his hands and handed him a smaller one. He recognized it, the faded patterns on it. A plate he himself had made as a child. He was surprised she had kept it for this long, more so, kept it intact. He smiled gratefully and shook his head in disbelief as she went back to talking to some far cousin Grey couldn't remember the name of.
He grabbed some of everything (that was left) as he was indecisive about what to pick, looking around the room for a place to sit. There were two empty chairs next to the sofa and he chose the left one, the old wooden object creaking as sat down.
A while later after he had almost finished his plate entirely and having a pleasant conversation about how life was as Nightwolf with his brother and his wife, they both stood up and went to look for their children, going home early as they had school the day ahead.
His aunt now occupied the empty space on the sofa, immediately starting a conversation with him.
"Who's the pretty silver boy you brought along?" Her voice was deep, silent so the other people in the room couldn't hear the question. Nightwolf felt weakened for a moment and all he could do was smile widely. After a second of not coming to words, his aunt simply smiled back, nodding understandingly.
"Well be sure to bring him along more often, the little ones like him." They both chuckled and watched as Fujin appeared from upstairs, one of Grey's cousins hanging on his arm, one on his neck, and the other following strict behind. He was talking with Grey's brother excitedly. His usually braided hair hanging loose in rough curls, sloppy braids, and pink bowties scattered through it.
Grey and his aunt chuckled again, and Fujin shook his head as he made eye contact with his husband. Being yanked to his knees as one of the kids nearly ripped half of his hair out.
The night went on smoothly, all Grey's uncles complimenting him on his title as they always did, suggesting for he and Fujin to stop saving the world for a weekend and to come fishing with them. His aunts all circled around Fujin instead and asked him about his hair, complimenting the length and impressive silver shining color.
Dessert was eventually served and everyone gathered around the table to eat, some brought their own sweets and others simply ate whatever was served. The loud chattering never stopped and neither did the aunts stop talking to Fujin, all were offering him different sorts on cakes and pies and in his kind nature, he accepted them all gladly, having to grab an extra plate for the number of baked goods he received.
Much like before Grey ate a bit of everything. Not wanting to hurt anyone in his family as he knew how important the food was to them.
Dessert passed quickly and the building became less crowded by the minute as tired guests started to leave, yet the volume of the event stayed the same. Loud laughter roared through the air from everyone as Grey's father was telling another one of his wild stories from when he was younger, Fujin who was one of the few to have never heard these stories widening his eyes in disbelief at all of them, accidentally asking too many questions that eventually broke Greys's das into admitting he made some up.
Laughter was even more present at the embarrassment and his dad laughed and shrugged it all off as he sat down next to his wife and continued eating his now-melted ice cream.
Time passed and eventually, it was time for Grey and Fujin to leave too, the only ones left over being the residents of the house. Tearfully Nightwolf's aunt kissed both him and Fujin on the cheek, thanking them for the good day and praying for them to come back.
After Fujin promised to return three times she finally let them both go and blew kisses at them as they got onto Grey's motorcycle and started driving the short ride back to their own residence.
Grey was content with the night, not regretting anything he said or did. Feeling Fujin gripping his waist from behind as the sky above them slowly turned dark, stars appearing. He was content with taking Fujin with him to meet his relatives, despite it all, Fujin was family too
