Watcher 443 has a terrible weakness. Delta finds out about it.

Notes:

Not an accurate summary but can't say much without spoiling...

Very tiny drabble it was supposed to be, a four chapter story it turned into...

Chapter Text

Delta paced around the living room of the penthouse apartment he occupied within a former research institute, and that Omega and him had claimed as their home base for their conquest of the North. He awaited an extremely important status update from Watcher 443, who had been sent to survey potential human shelters and hideouts, hoping to flush out an old friend of his, as well as the former Dreamscape laboratory.

Watcher 443 was, however, unusually late. In fact, he was supposed to return to their base about two days ago. This was unlike him. Out of all the androids his siblings and he had created in the past few years, the watchers, and Watcher 443 in particular, were the most reliable and the deadliest. For a moment, Delta feared that Watcher 443 had been ambushed by human troops and either captured (to be studied by Bane of the South) or/and destroyed, which would have been a real disappointment. Since Gamma was still occupied in the south and Omega was sent out on another errand, Delta decided to go look for Watcher 443 by himself.

He put on his usual casual attire and walked down the stairs towards the main lobby. It was when he was about to step out into the snowy wasteland that his scanner suddenly lit up.

*LIFE FORMS DETECTED*

Delta turned around to check his surroundings. He could see no one and nothing in particular. Strange.

*SMALL LIFE FORMS DETECTED*

Again? Delta frowned. This time, however, his scanner pinpointed an area right around the corner. He immediately went to check what it was—those life forms might not be hostiles, but they could still be dangerous.

His eyes widened. Watcher 443 was sitting on the floor. In his lap, three little kittens were sleeping peacefully. Two of them were black, one slightly smaller than the other, and the smallest was silvery-white. They could hardly be older than three or four months.

"Watcher 443? Where do these kittens come from, and what are you doing?"

"They intruded on the facility two days ago. I tried to make them leave, but they attacked me. And suddenly they fell asleep. So now I’m watching over Master Delta, Master Omega, and Mistress Gamma."

"I beg your pardon?" Delta stared in utter disbelief as Watcher 443 softly stroked the kittens' backs, making them purr. They woke up, stumbling as they got on their little paws, and cuddled themselves against the android, headbutting his chest or hands on occasion while meowing cutely.

"They are attacking me again. I don’t know why. They are not dangerous so I do not retaliate. This is Master Delta," said 443, pointing at the tiniest of the black kittens, who had jade green eyes. "This is Master Omega", he added, pointing at the silvery-white one with black eyes. "And this is Mistress Gamma", he finished, gently scratching the other black-furred kitten, who had purple eyes.

Delta stood in shock.

"I beg your pardon?" he repeated.

"The kittens look like Master Delta, Master Omega, and Mistress Gamma. So I named them Master Delta, Master Omega, and Mistress Gamma," Watcher 443 stated in his robotic voice.

"You… named them? Wait, did I understand correctly that those kittens arrived here two days ago? Have you been sitting here for two entire days instead of reporting to me?"

"They were attacking me. And suddenly they fell asleep on me. I could not move. They looked adorable sleeping", Watcher 443 added, while the three kittens climbed on his shoulders and head.

Delta’s usual slicked-back hair loosened as he facepalmed himself. Hopefully humans wouldn’t find out that one of the deadliest androids alive had been swayed by the mere sight of cute, meowing kittens.
