Work Text:
Atsumu watches you take a sip of the tea he made while you make yourself comfortable on his kitchen stool.
He knows from mutual friends that you just came back. He knows it's dangerous to still keep tabs on you, but he couldn’t help it.
Samu already warned him twice about it because he knows how toxic and consuming your relationship has become, and Atsumu is still trying to pick up the pieces after you left without a word or a note.
He’s at the top of his career. In fact, he and his team recently beat Kageyama and Oikawa in a very important championship game.
And he is seeing someone now, much to everyone’s surprise. They’ve always thought that he was going to hang up on you for a long time. Osamu had hoped, though, that eventually the girl he was seeing would make him forget about the ruined pieces you left behind—would make him forget about you completely.
But the girl he’s seeing is a was. It’s a was, now that you came back.
It took a long, hard time before he came to this point. Of being at peace and content, but Atsumu doesn’t know how a single word from you made all those sacrifices and efforts come undone.
"So..." you say, a smile on your face. "How’s it going?"
On your brightest days, you bring him to heaven. You say his name with a sigh, a twinkle in your eyes, and a laugh in your mouth. You don't shy away from his touch, and you let him linger around you as much as he likes.
But in your darkest days, you drag him to hell, say his name like a curse, avoid his touch, and a storm forms in your eyes.
He knows he should think about the day you left and left his world to come crashing down before he lets you back into his life again. Atsumu knows his defeat when he sees it. He already let you in when you came to see him tonight, but surprisingly, all he can remember is him being happiest with you, and when he crashes his lips against yours, he knows that everything he did to forget you and everything he did to move forward was all in vain. That when you responded to his kisses with your own, you have ruined him and everything he did.
"I miss you," he says repeatedly. "I miss you. Don’t leave me again."
You ruined him for anyone else.
