The first streaks of light caused Kelvin to wake up. He opened his eyes and looked at his surroundings, thankfully no one was here. Well except for Tim, who was still sleeping in his own makeshift tent.
Kelvin just now remembered that he wasn't supposed to be sleeping for such a long time. He searched pockets of the hoodie that was given to him from Tim, to find a piece of paper with his assigned task. It simply said 'gather wood'.
"I could do that right now when it's safe." He thought to himself.
Kelvin pulled out his axe and walked up to the nearest tree that wasn't a part of construction. He managed to start chopping down a tree but less than a minute had passed for a familiar shadow to start appearing in front of him.
He turned around and saw Tim, who had just woken up being in distress by the sudden alarming noise. Kelvin smiled at him and gave him a thumbs up, from that Tim relaxed a bit and was no longer worried so much for their safety. He pulled out his notebook and started writing in it only to just in a moment give this price of paper to Kelvin. He took it without hesitation and began to read it. 'Rest'. He nodded in understanding of the message.
Then Tim started to write on another page. And just as the last time he gave it to Kelvin to read it. This time it said: 'I'm going to explore a few places. I'll be back by the next morning'. Again Kelvin nodded to show that he understands what Tim means. In a few moments Tim went away from their camp.
Kelvin was enjoying his time alone, he managed to get a closer look at the surroundings of his and Tim's base but just a few hours had passed and as he sat down next to the campfire he saw someone nearby.
A woman who's been visiting them for some time now appeared at the horizon. When Kelvin realized that it was Virginia he waved his hand to greet her. She mimicked what he did without quite understanding what it meant, although she did it multiple times when she came across them. Kelvin gestured to her to sit down next to him rather than wander around their camp.
After Virginia sat down next to him, Kelvin noticed that she had a dead squirrel in her hands. He held out his hand to be given the object and surprisingly to him she trusted him enough to place it in his hand. Kelvin began to skin it as Virginia was looking closely at what he was doing. Then he lit a campfire in front of them and placed raw meat on top of it. They had waited for some time for the meat to be ready to be eaten, and when the time for it came Kelvin took it and handed it to Virginia.
She took the cooked squirrel meat from Kelvin's hand and took a bite. It had been a long time since she last ate something that was prepared in any way. She wanted to show her gratitude for it so in order to do that she gave a thumbs up while she was still eating.
Kelvin recognized that she was making the same gesture as he does when he's showing to Tim that he's feeling good or that the task he has is going well. He just smiled at her.
They had spent the rest of the day together learning new things about each other, and as the sun came down when Tim got back to the camp he saw quite an adorable scene as Kelvin fell asleep on Virginia's shoulder, with peaceful looks on their faces.
