Shoto would know a thing or two about broken hearts. Although not in a romantic sense per se. After all, he has experienced things a child should never experience, which has left his young heart broken into pieces.
But he would’ve never thought that he would experience it in a romantic sense. He didn’t know he had a romantic bone in him, much to Bakugo’s agreement.
He has never felt so happy until you came into his life and made everything extra bright.
He’d do anything to protect your happiness; he’s a hero after all.
He thought that society had progressed enough that having a quirkless lover was now accepted, but he’s still naive.
You’re a strong-willed girl. He knows that, and that’s what he loves about you.
His friends know that, his family knows that, and they couldn’t blame you when you decided to call it quits and break his heart.
Who wouldn’t understand your situation?
Being bombarded by the media even in your job, having your peace taken away from you, and dealing with villains who want to take you as bait or take revenge against you because your lover is a hero would break even the strongest of wills.
And so, with a heavy heart, Shoto watches you walk away.
His friends comforted him, as did his family, but they have different ways of helping him cope with the pain. His friends told him to give it time and not pressure himself, while his family had a different idea in mind...
Maybe meeting someone new would ease your pain.
He knows it won’t work, but he humors them anyway. And every day he can feel his will to not beg you to take him back crumble, but he has stilled his heart. He has already failed to protect you, and he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize your safety again by associating himself with you.
And he was doing a great job at keeping himself in check until a call came.
"Half and half, we've got trouble."
Shoto really tried to calm down, but the way he pushed through Bakugo’s shoulder to get through wouldn’t fool anyone.
"I’m okay, I’m okay," you assured Iida as you tried to wipe your tears, still shaken after what happened. You didn’t even notice him enter the room, given how shaken you are. "Please don’t tell Shoto."
He wanted to beat the villains himself for putting you in danger, but his heart ached when you mentioned his name. He’d do anything to protect you this time around.
He marches towards you with a purpose, pulling you to him, and despite your surprise, he can feel you soften in his embrace. And he wants to tell his family that his pain stopped when you returned his embrace.
Because the only one who can unbreak his heart is you.
