Far from dying (On Hiatus)

Summary:

Nyoze Octo is ready for his first day at the Rolled Police Department.

Nemesis Sudou is looking for her missing sister.

A stop at the gas station turns into something much worse than too-high prices.

No one can stop what’s happening.

Notes:

Hamlet is a really weird comedy that makes me pretty sure everyone is a murderer.

Gertrude was describing how Ophelia died, mainly for the reader/audience, but it makes it sound like she was just standing there and watching.

Chapter 1: Unsteady hand, unsteady aim

Chapter Text

The gas station is just up ahead, and it’s empty. I smile and pull in before refilling my tank. Rolled’s around thirty miles away, and I can’t be late for my first day tomorrow. This job is important to me, so I can’t mess this up.

Working for Rolled Police Department has been my dream for as long as I can remember, and my younger brother encouraged me to go for it. He’s the kind of person to help someone achieve their goals, something I can’t thank him enough for. I’ll have to get him an extra special gift for his birthday when it comes up.

Now that I’m out of the car, I can see that some was most definitely wrong. There was literally no one around. It’s dead silent, and that’s beginning to get unnerving.

I park my car and go inside the station, and it’s dark and quiet. My nervousness is growing, but I’m not about to leave. Putting my hand on my gun, I head towards the back.

A man is on the floor, and he’s dead. Blood trails from his mouth, and I can see what killed him: his heart has been ripped out. Several marks are surrounding his ribs, so I think something tore it out. That thought doesn’t comfort me, which makes me keep walking.

An inhuman growl sets me on high alert, and I aim my gun at the thing in the shadows. It steps out, and I can’t stop myself from swearing. This thing is…..not quite human anymore.

It shambles towards me. My finger squeezes the trigger before I think, and a bullet runs right through this thing’s skull.

  It doesn’t stop.

Not about to mess around and find out, I bolt. Right as I pass the man on the floor, he lurches up, and I scream in surprise. Within a second, I’m pinned to the ground with him on top of me. His mouth is getting closer to my neck, and he’s somehow too strong to fight off.

  BANG!

  BANG!

The man falls down on me, very dead, and the other one topples over as well. Horrified, I shove him off me and crawl away. A pair of black boots fills my vision, so I look up.

A rather pretty girl in black holding a revolver stares down at me, concerned. Then she pulls her foot back and asks, “Are you one of them?” Her tone is urgent, begging me for an immediate answer.

“One of….them?” I blink, still reeling from nearly being bitten.

She sighs and bends down to help me up. “You can talk. That’s a good sign. C’mon, my car’s outside. We ca-“

The sound of a large crash cuts her off, and she shrieks and turns around quickly. I look out and see a now damaged blue car jutting into the station. A truck blocks the rest of the view.

The girl inhales and turns her attention to her gun. “We need to go. Now!” She grabs my hand and runs, dodging the car that must have been hers. We stop at mine, and she glares at me expectantly. “Let’s go!”

I don’t say anything, just fumbling to get my keys back out. She makes eye contact with me and goes to the passenger side. The very second the car is unlocked, she hops in and gazes around frantically. I get in after her and start driving.

“What is going on?” I ask. “What happened back there?”

She takes a deep breath. “Zombies. Somehow, some way, the people of Rolled have come back from the dead.”
