Let Me Adore You

Summary:

Just a story of Ronance dancing...

Work Text:

While social cues (and frankly acting around strangers in general) is far from her strong suit, one thing that Robin Buckley is proud of is how she can read other people. She's no telepath, but she can read body language. She knows when someone is lying, or when they are nervous.

And that's why, while she watched her wife talk about work as they lay on the couch, she can sense something was wrong.

"Babe, what is it?"

Nancy stopped mid-sentence, looking up. "Sorry?"

"Something is bothering you. And don't lie to me." Robin added as Nancy opened her mouth. She sighed.

"My boss is threatening to fire me." Nancy replied in a small voice.

"What? Why?"

The dam broke, and Nancy buried her face in Robin's chest, sobbing.

"Shh, shh. Honey, what's wrong?" Robin whispered.

"He said I'm a promising reporter, and that he's thinking of promoting me."

"But?" Robin asked.

"He said 'why don't we talk about it over coffee?'. I said 'sure, why not.' When we grabbed some, he really did talk about it. And then he said, 'you know, we should do this again sometime.' He's obviously hitting on me."

"Who wouldn't?" Robin attempted to joke, and Nancy hit her playfully.

"Shut up. Anyway, yeah. He asked me out, and I declined, telling him that I'm not into men."

"And now he's using that information to hold your promotion." Robin guessed.

"Yes. He threatened to sack and expose me if I didn't go on a date with him."

Robin ground her teeth. That sick, manipulative son of a bitch.

"You don't have to."

Nancy looked at her fearfully. "But what if he does fire me?"

"F*ck him, and f*ck his conditions. He's right. You are a promising reporter. Besides, that place is, if I may quote you, a shit hole."

Nancy shrugged. "Fair enough."

"That's my girl. You can probably do online works while you're looking for a new job. And my gigs aren't exactly on the low end, financially speaking.

"Come on; stand up."

Nancy looked at her in confusion.

"Huh? Why-!" Nancy let out a noise of protest as Robin slightly yanked her to her feet. Music began to play, Elvis's "Can't Help Falling In Love".

"Let's dance." Robin took her partner's hands on her own. They began to sway to the beat, Robin humming along to the song. She rested her chin on top of Nancy's head.

"Don't worry about him. We'll get through this." Robin murmured. "Together."

Nancy stood on her tiptoes to kiss Robin. "I love you."

"And I you." Robin said softly, this time initiating the kiss.
