Chapter Text

"hey shimada-kun..."

"yea?"

A short boy with black hair that shone in the moonlight turned to look at me with nothing but curiosity in his eyes.

"what do you think we'll be doing in 20 years?"

He turned away and stared at the moon. Mouth opening and closing as if looking for words to say. My eyes staring holes into the side of his head, patiently waiting for the wisest answer he could come up with at the ripe age of 8.

His gaze spun back to you and he showed you his biggest grin. Oh how much I would give to see him grinning at me like that again

"mmm I don't know l/n-chan, the only thing that matters is that you-"

I'm so sorry Genji

"-and Hanzo-"

Fuck i'm so so sorry

"-are always by my side no matter what"

He intertwined his hands with your own small child hands before directing the topic to you.

"What about you l/n-chan, where do you think we'll be in 20 years?"

His eyes turned up to look into your own eyes, gleaming with child like wonder.

"hmm I have no clue either! As long as-"

Anything but here

"-i'm not alone-"

Wake up

"-without you."

You already lost him

Remember?

Chapter Text

That stupid dream again why won't it stop.

You cursed under your breathe as you swung your legs over the bed, sheets long gone and thrown somewhere in this ridiculously big room. Why would they give their agents a room fit for a whole group of people. Thinking about it, they probably picked a random training room, threw in a bed and sheets and called it a day.

Fuck these people.

Fuck this facility too.

Before you could even get up to brush your teeth, muttering was heard just beyond the outside of your door. Oh please don't let it be who you think it is, you weren't even that loud this morning.

"Dios mio, Y/N!!!"

Of course God chose not to show you mercy today as it was Sombra pounding at your door. Anytime you had that nightmare you would thrash against the confines of your own blankets. Sadly, the tan Mexican woman was just on the other side of the wall your bed was pushed up against. You couldn't blame her for getting as mad as she does, the memories of when you lived in a small studio apartment with walls as thin as paper coming back to you. One neighbor seemed to invite have a whole college frat party every Saturday, and your other neighbor seemed to love to show you just how much she loved her husband. You could tell, she loved him a lot.

A lot.

You sighed as you threw open your door, nearly having a hole punched through your skull as you had interrupted her excessive pounding on the door.

"y/n no entiendes that I also have things to do!? If i accidentally hit a firewall in the mission today know its your fault for my lack of sleep!"

Before you could get a word in to try to apologize she slammed the door in your face. You couldn't even tell if she walked back into her room because of her silent footsteps till you heard her own door slam shut. God how much you had too hold back on the desire to go to her own door later on and wake her up with the same pounding at the door like she had done to you. If you didn't have someone you wanted to impress and show how good you could be you might have done it.

'aish if Reaper didn't need her so much my stay here would be so much easier'

-------

In the science lab sat Moira staring at a variety of graphs and lines that stood around her in holograms. Behind her, strapped to a table, laid a tan male, fully clothed in black combat garments, save his arms where several tubes where sticking out into bags. These tubes pumped all sorts of different colors of liquid into this man's body, after this long he had learned not to ask anymore.

"You feel anything different Gabriel~?"

Her tone of voice as she said his name was almost mocking, her deep voice made almost anything that came out of her mouth seem menacing. Just being in her presence can make any normal person tremble in fear, even those closest to her can't help but feel some inferiority under their irritation toward her. Maybe because she made them the way they were right now. Mostly because only she knows how to fix them.

"Shouldn't you know what is wrong with me, this close to a mission I expected you to be finished"

"Talking real smart for someone who's life basically lays at my feet"

He grunted as he turned away from her. Not being able to move much apart from his face and neck, he decided staring at a wall on the opposing side was infinitely more interesting than staring at the Irish woman's face any longer.

"Whose life in this facility doesn't depend on you?"

She chuckled as she stepped toward him, tablet she was holding no longer in her hands, and positioned her hands to remove the tubes from his veins. Careful not the snatch any of his skin along the way, then switching over to unlatch his limbs from the table. The latches no longer had any effect on keeping him still with his wraith form but he still decided that having them on was for the best.

"You know, that girl you brought me peaked my interest"

At this he turned towards her and stared at her unwavering gaze that she held on his arms. No longer was she unbuckling any latches or taking out any tubes, she just kept her eyesight on the black veins that traveled from the tip of his fingers to the unknown depths that was hidden behind his mask. Smiling at her work.

"The one we saved from Hanamura? She knows nothing about Overwatch, she's useless to us"

She chuckled deeply again at that. Eyes clouding with something unknown to anyone who observed her. She strummed her long, point nails against the hard marble counter where her beakers filled with different chemicals sat.

"Useless to you, she's a perfect blank canvas to mess with her genes"

At those words , the man named Gabriel grew curious and looked up at the orange-haired woman.

"I don't care what you do, just make her useful"

Moira, finally finished with unleashing the tubes from the grasps of Gabriel's veins, flashed a grin at the man adorned in all black. The man nodded and walked to the exit, fully ready to continue whatever he was doing before his "appointment". As the door shut Moira turned to stare at her electronics.

With one flick of her wrists, the once dark room illuminated with a bright blue that came out of the countless hologram screens in front of her. Various animals, some mythical like wraiths, others like spiders but one creature stuck out the most. One that she thought was perfect to who she had in mind. The chances of it turning out correctly was slim to none, but the challenge excited her, and death didn't scare her.

"You won't be disappointed"

One phrase stuck out among the rest.

Chapter Text

"Agent, you're not at somebody's funeral, loosen those shoulders up"

Sombra gripped your shoulders and brought them down to a more relaxed position. As much as you wanted to relax you just couldn't with how much your mind was all over the place. He had recruited you because he said you were valuable. He said you were someone he was willing to risk his life for because his team needed you. Was he lying when he said he had traveled for hours on end just to get to you? You tried to recap your meeting with him, trying to recount the words you had exchange. No matter how much you tried you just couldn't remember every detail, after thinking about it every day and every hour since he brought you here (which was only a week but still) some details have been long forgotten. Still there's one interaction that you remembered bothered you, yet you can't remember the exact questions he asked.

'It's on the tip of my tongue, I overlooked it because I was more worried about the situation at hand damn it!'

Unknowingly your eyebrows furrowed as you stayed deep in thought. Anyone else who saw you would probably think you were mad with the expression you were making. If it wasn't for Sombra snapping you out of your thoughts you might've stayed the whole lunch break in your own mind.

"Hellooo? Agent are you even listening, you look angry"

She snapped her fingers to gain your attention. Going from side to side with her fingers to make sure that she really has brought you down to earth.

"Geez are you not even going to eat? childish"

Sombra popped a fry into her mouth as she stared straight at you. Meanwhile, you still aren't listening, still thinking in your mind of all the possibilities, yet it was rude to ignore someone so you semi-listened and spoke up whenever needed. Sombra was quite a character, sure she was shady and a bit intrusive with how much she knew about you (you still remember when she called you your middle name, you almost dislocated your jaw with how shocked you were to hear it) but she was great company. Of course when no one else wants to approach you for an unknown reason, finding friendship in the one person who notices you is kind of a given.

"What runt work has Reaper given you today, you going to be his sirvienta? Or maybe his delivery man"

She cackles as she said those words, slightly slapping your shoulder. At this you snapped out of your thoughts and regained your full focus on Sombra again. What were you going to do today?

"I... don't know, i usually would've gotten a task through the communicator by now."

You frown as you take out your communicator, barren of any new notifications to alert you to do something of meaning.

"Aww you think they got bored of you already? Cmon, everyone else got sent on a mission by this point when they were new, you're like... basura to Reaper"

'Am I trash to Reaper? But then why did he bring me here? No no I can't be doing nothing, he saved me I have to repay somehow. But, if Sombra is right, then what happens to me...?'

"Sombra are there any private training grounds around here? A weapon to practice would be nice too."

She grinned at those words, sticking her hand out, waiting for you to take it so she can lead you.

"Listening to my words and making yourself useful I like it"

She led you to a room where there were weapons from wall to wall, options filled your mind. Ranging from the smallest of box cutters to the biggest bazooka you had ever seen.

"So agent, what are you good at? Surely you've been trained with a weapon at some point right? We got it all right here, pues menos la mía"

She laughed boisterously as she twirled her own gun on her finger.

'A weapon I know how to use, huh'

You eyes flickered over to the katana, grabbing it for a second as you spun it around, slashing the air from time to time. Just like he had done when you were younger. He always used to be better than you. You sighed as the memories came back to you at once.

'Y/N-chan you're doing it completely wrong! You'll hurt your wrist that way'

A fourteen year old you swung the wooden sword around, imagination running wild as you imagined you were slaying dragons in another world.

'Brother let her, one doesn't learn unless they experience the consequences to childish behavior'

Smiling, You still remember how sore your wrists were after that, damn Hanzo and his maturity so young. Still, this weapon is not one you are worthy of anymore, especially without them by your side, each holding their own. You instead reach for a gun. It was small but what caught you attention was the knife underneath the barrel of the gun. The gun itself looked easy to work with, it's not like you haven't used guns in the past, just not one with this attachment.

"aah the sg-milliasault ? It does kind of match your vibe I approve."

She gives you a thumbs up before showing you a huge box next to it.

"Here is all the ammo for the assault guns, take however much you'd need, plus the add-ons. The silencer is over there i'd suggest to get that first, now hurry up I don't have all day"

You jogged to collect everything you needed, mentally thanking Sombra for mentioning the silencer, you can't really be stealthy with loud gunshots now can you? God, you can imagine how'd they react if they saw you using a gun.

Nearing the room you could have inly guess was the training area, you quietly trailed behind Sombra. You stayed holed up in your room all week, never had it crossed your mind that you would be staying long enough for there to be a reason to familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Damn you.

As you opened the door, inside you were greeted by many targets scattered around the grounds. Mannequins with targets at their major points, on one side of the room sat rows among rows of moving targets to practice your new weapon on.

Before you could gawk at how grand everything was you heard a family beep that instantly caused you to practically toss your communicator out of your back pocket. Confused as your notifications remain bare of any tasked, especially from him .

"Oops, it's mine. I'll leave you to it then"

She waved you off before leaving you alone to your new weapon and many victims. You took a closer look at the gun before pointing it at one of the targets, pulling the trigger.

Your eyes widened in shock of how good it worked, the head of the mannequin was practically gone! Nothing remained other than it's remnants that were littered across the floor, if it weren't for that, there wouldn't be a way to tell there had even been a head there a second ago.

You then approached another target, this time your method of destroying it different. You stuck the knife and cut it's neck clean off. This gun shocked you in multiple ways than one. With weapons this good you wondered why the Shimada clan strayed clear of their use.

'I better get good and fast if I want to be of some worth'

---

"Sombra come out"

Reaper turned to face the direction of Sombra's form stepping out of the shadow. One of her hands behind her back while the other played with a purple tech cube that bounced up and down on her finger.

"You finally have a job for me?"

Reaper directed his body back towards the screen in front of him. Various pictures were displayed on them, from different animals to different people on base. He scrolled through the list of agents and stopped at one in particular.

"You finished your report on them?"

Sombra smiled at Reaper before taking his spot in front of the screen. Quickly inserting her own usb, causing files upon files to come up.

"Wait till i tell you what little Y/N was up to in her past, and with who"
