Quality Time

Summary:

!! Note: This work is about plain university Suho, not Lloyd isekai Suho !!

Between his studies, extracurriculars, and dozens of part-time jobs, Suho finds it hard to enjoy the rare downtime he gets... but when it's someone else making the time for him, the last thing he'd want to do is waste their care.

Work Text:

He did his best to stay awake in spite of his crippling exhaustion, knowing just how much she had been looking forward to that night. He didn't want to let her down no matter how tired he was. It wasn't as if he hadn't pushed himself to greater lengths in the past. He wanted to spend time with her just as badly as she did with him, and he was doing everything he could to fulfill that goal, but there was only so much he could do before beginning to nod off.

His posture slumped into the couch, taking advantage of the one real break he'd gotten in several months until he started tilting to the side. She jumped in surprise once his head fell against her arm. "Suho...?" She called while awkwardly turning to look at him. She tried to gently shake his shoulder and wake him up. He didn't stir, far too exhausted to be moved by that alone.

She sat and thought for a few more moments before reaching for the remote, turning down the volume to more properly let him rest. She did her best to carefully lay him down on the couch. His head sat comfortably over the dip in her thighs. It brought a faint blush to her face, wondering if he'd dislike being so close to her, and only hoped that it was at least comfortable enough to support his neck.

The rest of the movie came and went. She put on another to let him rest as long as he had to. She'd completely lost track of the time and begun to feel drowsy, herself by the time he finally woke up. He groaned from the unfamiliar position and took his time reassessing his surroundings. He reached beneath him to try and figure out where he was, clumsily fumbling around until she managed to find her voice. "Um, Suho..." She nervously spoke up, blushing quite deeply as his touch sank into her clothes. "Please don't squeeze too hard..."

He recognized her voice before anything else, looking up out of habit to see her shyly biting her lip. His gaze quickly darted back to his hands, to her thighs resting beneath his head, and rushed to correct himself so strongly that he fell straight off the couch. "Ack!" He exclaimed after bumping his head on the coffee table, wincing in pain while she gasped with concern.

"Are you okay?!"

"It's fine, I'm fine, just..." He held the back of his neck as it burned beneath his palm, teeth sinking into his bottom lip to try and gather his scrambled thoughts. "I'm sorry," he blurted out. "I wasn't— I didn't mean to— I just..." He could nearly feel himself short circuiting, eyes squeezing shut with a heavy sigh. "Sorry."

"No, it's okay." She fidgeted with her hair, trying to relax her own nerves while he stared holes into the floor. "It's my own fault, for putting you there like that. I shouldn't have moved you without asking."

"Ah, no, that's okay too. I don't mind." He chanced a quick glance up at her, feeling his heart pounding in his ears once he met her eyes. It brought them both a strange sense of comfort to know they weren't the only one turning bright red. "...It was comfortable," he half mumbled.

"Really?" He nodded without a word, gaze starting to wander away as another awkward pause hung in the air. "Then... You can always lay back down if you want to. I don't mind."

She pushed her legs back together, subtly looking away while smoothing out her pants. All he could do was sit and stare until he managed to swallow his nerves. Wondering if it was really alright, he quietly shuffled around until his back was against her shins and he could lean into her lap. Her heart was racing as she carefully reached down to cup his face.

Her palms were soft against his jaw, feeling the stubble that he hadn't had time to shave as they silently met the other's eyes. She subtly glanced across his face to gauge his mood. He had to swallow again, wondering if she could tell how badly embarrassed he was. "Is this okay?" She asked softly, hoping he didn't mind her touch. "There's still space up on the couch."

"I'm fine right here," he did his best to reassure. "But I'm sorry for falling asleep. I know that you were looking forward to this."

"Oh, no, that's okay! Don't be sorry for that." Her gaze softened as she leaned down, gently pressing his face to ease away his frown. "I know how hard you work. You deserve the rest more than anyone."

His eyes widened before quietly looking away, faintly smiling to himself as his brows knit with unspoken guilt. "Hah... It must be nice to think like that." he reached up to loosely hold her wrists, gazing sadly into her eyes while still keeping the same smile. "I guess that's why I have you, right? So I don't fall apart."

"Suho..." She leaned down a little more, heart aching for him while her hair fell beside his ears. He knew she didn't like when he thought like that. When he didn't see the value in his time. All the same, she couldn't possibly hold it against him, and the only thing she truly hoped for was that he'd change his mind someday.

"Listen, I..." His thumbs subtly rubbed against her wrists, needing to use his energy somehow as his nerves muddled his thoughts. "IIf you're free again, whenever I next get time off, do you want to go out somewhere? Just so I can make this up to you."

She was quiet for a few moments, each millisecond feeling like a thousand years until she lowered enough to gently tap her forehead to his own. She didn't want him to see the way her face was turning red. "Of course," she agreed softly. "I'd really, really like that. Just let me know when works for you."

"Oh." He hadn't thought ahead enough to have a ready response, blinking his eyes and trying not to think about the scent of her clothes until he managed to gather his words. "Oh, uh, yeah. Sure. I'll let you know."

She let out a subtle sigh, the air faintly tickling his hair before she raised her head again. "Then I'm looking forward to it."
