Work Text:

It all started with a text.

“Hello! It’s Thoma. I’m in your History Class? I was wondering if you would be my partner for that group project that Professor Ei gave. “

Ayato quickly typed a reply, a smile creeping onto his face.

“Sure. When do you want to meet?”

His phone dinged again with a reply from Thoma.

“How about tomorrow, at Komore Teahouse? It’s private and quiet there, it’ll be perfect for discussing our project.”

Ayato blushed, the redness going up to his ears.

“Sure. It’s a date.”

Ayato thanked his lucky stars that he was alone right now, as no one could see how he nearly squealed like a girl in love. He had noticed Thoma since their first year. The blonde had a reputation for being the campus sweetheart, always seen with at least an animal hanging around him, much like a disney princess. Thoma’s smile was like the sun, dazzling and bright. His laughter, like the sweet tinkling of windchimes, swaying in the warm summer breeze. Thoma was quickwitted and smart, always managing to charm ayato and capture his mind into comfortable conversations. Ayato was in love with Thoma, no doubt about that. And now that they would spend a day together, just the two of them? It felt like a date.

On the other end of the phone, holding Thoma’s phone, Itto grabbed Thoma, telling him the good news.

“DUDE HE SAID YES. YOU’RE GOING ON A DATE.”

“Really?” Thoma took his phone back, quickly scanning through the messages. “It’s not a date, Itto, We’re only going to discuss the project.”

“Maybe next time it’ll be a date.” Itto grinned.

Thoma chuckled. “Hopefully.”

Thoma remembers how he first met Ayato. He still remembered how they locked eyes across the room, green eyes meeting blue. He still remembered how ayato laughed as thoma fumbled up his name. He remembered going home, memories of the prettiest boy he’s ever met still fresh in his mind. It would be one thing if Ayato was just a pretty boy. But his intelligence and kindness shined as brightly as his looks. Ayato had once helped Thoma research the best pet food, and Thoma would never forget how beautiful Ayato looked, petting a white cat snuggled up in his lap. Ayato smiled and looked at Thoma, as if saying “Look, Isn’t she the cutest?”. Thoma fell in love there and then.

The sun was high in the sky when they met in front of the Teahouse.

“Good morning, Thoma. Shall we go in?” Ayato smiled, pushing open the door. Before Thoma could answer, there came a “Woof!”. Both of them turned to look at the counter, where a well dressed dog was sitting. Under his paw was a key and a piece of paper.

“Mr Thoma, Room 2” The note said.

“It’s hard to get a room here, How did you do it?” Ayato remarked, as they headed to their room.

“Oh..” Thoma laughed sheepishly. “I pulled some strings. “

“Such a well-connected man.” Ayato teased, as he opened the door.

The room was decorated simply, a table with four Zabuton surrounding it. In the middle, smoke emanated from a incense burner, spreading the smell of jasmine around the room. A freshly pot of tea was already prepared for the guests.

Ayato took a seat in front of the window, the sunlight behind him making him glow like an angel. Thoma’s heart skipped a beat as he hurriedly sat down, taking out his laptop. They spent the next hour discussing the project, Thoma trying not to blush with every accidental brush of their hands, Ayato stopping himself from smiling stupidly, the kind of smile that only a person in love would do.

The incense had stopped burning for a while before they finished up their discussion.

“Well, That’s all for this.” Ayato stretched, raising his arms up, revealing his smooth milky tummy to Thoma. Thoma blushed, looked away. Was this the perfect time to confess? What if Ayato says no? All these thoughts were running amok in Thoma’s head.

He took a deep breath, steeling his nerves. If he missed this opportunity, he might not get another chance.

Thoma grasped ayato’s hands, emerald eyes meeting sapphire eyes.

“I’VE LOVED YOU THE MINUTE I SAW YOU, WILL YOU BE MY BOYFRIEND?” Thoma nearly screamed.

Taken aback by the sudden (and loud) confession, Ayato blushed, the redness travelling up to his ears. Unable to express his feelings in words, Ayato grabbed Thoma’s shirt, pulling him in for a kiss.

Ayato pulled away from the kiss first, grinning at Thoma. “Does this count as my confession to you? I like you too. “

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” Thoma laughed. “So we’re.. boyfriends now?”

“If you’ll have me, yes, we shall be boyfriends.”

Perhaps it’s too cliché to say that they lived happily ever after, but that’s exactly what they did, basking in each other’s affection for the rest of their days.
