Work Text:
Stars. That's all you can see, all across the inky sky. An ocean of beautiful lights, in so many different pattens, framed around the scattered moon. A cold breeze ghosts over you and you shiver, the grass blades tickle your arms and you sigh.
Fingers tighten around yours, strong and sure and you feel the warmth seep into your bones. Spreading through to your soul, feel it deepen when it burns your cheeks.
"Weiss?"
Your breathing stops, you stop. The world stops. You're so nervous. You've done this a million times, Ruby has held your hand a million times, her lips have touched yours a million times, you've moaned Ruby's name- you swallow down the gasp that wants to break free.
"Yes Ruby?"
You hope she can't tell that your heart is racing. That in this field of peacefulness, you feel a whirlwind of emotions stirring inside of you, chaotic and all consuming.
Ruby props herself up and leans over you, blocking out the sky, your world is her, it has always been her. Her fingers are still tangled with yours and the blush that's searing your face creeps down your neck.
Always so nervous.
Her eyes search yours and you watch her get lost in them. The small concentrated furrow of her brows melting away and smoothing out, her lips parting ever so slighty, enough that you start to see the ghosting clouds of her breath with each exhale. Her hair is getting longer, falling to the side and down, swaying gently as the wind blows. You reach up and play with it. How long has it been since you breathed?
"Ruby, what were you going to say?"
It comes out so quietly you're not even sure she heard you, but she whispers back before you can ask again. Her voice as soft as the grass under you. A hand caresses your jaw.
"I don't know anymore. I think I just wanted to say your name." Her eyes drift to your lips. "Can I kiss you?"
You almost laugh in surprise, almost break the quiet stillness you two have created, she asks you so innocently, so breathlessly that it takes you off guard.
"Did I say something wrong?"
"No no of course not," you're still whispering, "it's just, you've kissed me so many times, you don't need to ask."
She hasn't stopped stroking your jaw, and you can't help but to lean into her. Your whole body is screaming to lean into her, to be consumed by her.
The flush that creeps up to her cheeks is outrageously beautiful and you feel your chest tighten. Please kiss me you want to say, please.
"I just- I know, but you- you didn't answer my question."
"Ask me again."
She leans closer and your foreheads touch, you close your eyes.
"Can I kiss you?"
You answer by closing the gap between you, your arms encircling Ruby, bringing her closer as a soft gasp escapes. You smile against her lips.
Yes.
Around you, the world keeps turning.
