Work Text:

They have lived in Canada for a year before moving to Alaska.

During their stay in Canada, they didn't just stay in Toronto, they went to many cities, the capital Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec and so on. Most of the time they traveled. In the past few years, Villanelle as an assassin has been to many European countries, but she is very unfamiliar with North America. Eve was born in Connecticut, USA, and returned to England as an adult to attend her father's funeral. Then she met Niko and married him. As a result, she also knows nothing about this place. The two of them have been busy with work and have never felt so free and relaxed. This time they have plenty of time, decide to enjoy life, and then slowly think about the future.

In addition to Canadian cities, they also crossed the border to visit the Niagara Falls region. The scenery was spectacular, and Villanelle was so excited about it, she took a lot of photos. Some of them were of her and Eve together, both smiling. There were new pictures to put above the fireplace in their home. The incident that happened on the Thames half a year ago was still vivid, but they still took a boat to experience the magnificent beauty of the waterfall. Villanelle always stayed by Eve's side, sometimes holding her hand tightly. They were all a little nervous. Well ... it might take some time for them to get over the horror of that night's experience. Still, they had a great time.

They bought a second-hand car, and almost went outside by car, rarely taking transportation. They decided to move to Alaska after staying in Toronto for a while. They spent a lot of time playing, hanging out in the city, shopping; they also spent much time at home. Eve cooked often, mostly Korean, and she was glad that Villanelle liked it. Villanelle also can cook, pasta, stew and so on. She also learned to bake and watched a lot of instructional videos on the Internet. Later Eve found out that she wanted to make croissants. They enjoyed watching movies on weekend nights, snuggling up with each other while sipping hot drinks under the covers. They also went to the movie theater once in a while, and the young woman liked to touch her hand while sharing popcorn, and then they would hold hands for a while.

To Villanelle, all these things is like a dream come true. And Eve has same feelings with her. She loves this kind of life. Normal, no one will come to bother them.

From the usual chat, Villanelle knows more about Eve, and so does Eve. Getting to know someone is like putting pieces together to a puzzle and it takes time. As time passes, they talk more and more, and they get to know each other more broadly and deeply. Villanelle told Eve about her childhood, her upbringing, the experience of working for the twelve. They also told about their family, Eve was surprised that Villanelle has brothers. Villanelle's journey to find her family was so unpleasant that she cried when talking about it. Eve had never seen Villanelle like this, so fragile, her body trembling, tears streaming down, sobbing in Eve's arms. Eve just hugged her tightly and comforted her softly. Besides, her brothers, she wondered if they were doing well. It's not easy to find them. Eve knows a few people who can help, not many, but they are all trustworthy, like Yusuf. They don't intend to seek Carolyn's help, and Eve believes that Carolyn probably doesn't want to see them again. After all, the two of them made a lot of trouble in the past. Then - it takes time to find someone. On the other hand, they don't want to be followed, they want to keep a low profile, after all, the Twelve still exists. Although the power of it has been weakened, it is safer to keep a low profile. They plan to wait a while before starting to look for Villanelle's brother.

--------------

Alaska

It's been two months since Villanelle and Eve moved to Alaska. Through a number of channels, they are able to stay in the United States legally. They now live on the outskirts of the capital, Anchorage. Their house is a two-story wooden building. It's nice that there are no other houses nearby and it's quiet. There is an asphalt road in front of their house, surrounded by many trees and a large green area. There are few houses after a ten-minute walk. Eve and Villanelle often get up early and walk along the road. They met their neighbors a few times, old couples and middle-aged couples with children, and they nodded to each other. They have been very busy in the past two months, purchasing all kinds of furniture and home appliances. They bought a queen size bed, big wardrobes, TV, bookcases and lots of stuff. The house has good lighting. They turn a room on the second floor into a study room, and Villanelle arranges great internet system for them. There is also a laundry room in the house, and Villanelle bought Whirlpool washers and dryers, which function well and Eve is satisfied with them. She also replaced the lock of the gate with an electronic lock to improve the safety of living.

They had small quarrels few times, most of which were related to life habit, and they reached consensus quickly. The argument happened recently was after moving to Alaska. They were living in a hotel and began to buy all kinds of stuff for the house they purchased. Villanelle wanted to buy a mattress which worth several thousand dollars, and she asked Eve for permission, but Eve disagreed. Then the young woman looked unhappy because of this. After that, Villanelle kept a straight face all afternoon and barely talked to Eve, and Eve was a bit angry about it. The atmosphere between the two became a little tense. After dinner that day, Villanelle took the initiative to hug her, softly saying that she wanted to talk with her. Villanelle said it wasn't a burden to her, and that she just wanted them both to sleep on comfortable mattresses, and she also wanted Eve to sleep well and feel comfortable. Eve also explained her reasons for objecting. She had never bought such an expensive mattress in her life, she just felt it was unnecessary, and she was still not used to Villanelle buying her expensive things. Finally, under the gaze of the young woman's puppy eyes, Eve agreed to her proposal. Afterwards, they went to the store to choose and test out. Finally they bought two single mattresses. Villanelle and Eve put them together, and Eve's mattress is harder than Villanelle's.

Eve thinks fighting isn't always bad. Family members who are related by blood have disagreements, not to mention people from different backgrounds. As long as people live together, friction is inevitable. Eve believes that when an argument occurs, trying to make the other understand and communicating is important. Many partners can't do this, and many people just blindly ask their other half to support themselves. Listening, understanding, and good communication are essential in a healthy relationship. Thinking of this, an interesting incident suddenly comes to Eve's mind, and a smile appears on the corner of her mouth. When she was using the computer before, she saw the browsing history, and the content was nothing more than " What should I do if I had an argument with my girlfriend?" "How to convince the other half to agree with me?" "How to comfort angry girlfriend?" "How to communicate with other half?" Eve thinks Villanelle is cute and become more mature. There were also articles related to healthy relationship, healthy relationship of couples. Eve is a little surprised that the young women searched the Internet for these issues.

Now, Eve is lying on the bed. She opens her eyes and tries to stretch her body. She looks down at the hand on her waist and smiles. The young woman's body presses against Eve's, her nose exhales warm breath, her face almost touches Eve's thick curly hair. She is still asleep. Eve turns carefully to face her. Eve watches her face for a moment. Then she moves closer to the young woman's face and presses a kiss on her chin.

After a few seconds.

"Good morning, Eve." The young woman grins, her eyes still close.

"Err, you're awake." Eve leans back, showing a little embarrassed face

"Mmm, I have wakened for a while." Her eyes are still closed

Silence.

"I like it," says Villanelle.

"The kiss?"

"Mmm, I like you to kiss me as I am sleeping."

"Mmm, noted."

Villanelle opens her eyes and stares at Eve straightly. Her beautiful eyes are full of longing, and Eve avoids her gaze.

She moves closer to Eve, their faces almost touching. Eve can feel the other's breath on her own face.

"Kiss me one more time." Villanelle's voice is low and husky. Oh It is sexy.

"No." Eve is very willing, but she wants to tease Villanelle, she leans back.

"What?" Villanelle's eyes widen, her eyebrows raise dramatically, and a few wrinkles appear on her forehead.

Eve can't help laughing.

"Eve." Villanelle's hand and feet go over Eve's body and wrap her tightly

"Oh, you should see your own face." Eve starts giggling.

"Who would refuse her beautiful girlfriend, huh?" Villanelle complains.

"Okay, okay." Then Eve lightly kisses her on the lips. One, then another.

"Is this okay?" Eve has a smile on her face.

"Mmm ... that's more like it," Villanelle says in a low voice.

They cuddle for a long time. Eve buries her face in the crook of Villanelle's neck, occasionally looking up and pressing several soft kisses on it.

"Thank you," Eve says.

"For what?"

"The bed. This bed is so comfortable, I sleep well. I even don't want to get out of bed."

"Well, I always choose the best thing." "Admit it, I have an eye for things." Villanelle is very proud.

"Yes you do."

At noon, Villanelle and Eve make lunch together. Villanelle makes pasta and bakes toast, and Eve makes ginseng chicken soup. They almost eat at home, and only on weekends they drop by to eat lunch on their way to a nearby supermarket to buy daily necessities.

Eve stays at home after the meal, and Villanelle has to drive to a hypermarket twenty minutes away to buy things.

"Eve, do you have anything to buy?" Villanelle puts on a coat at the door.

"Laundry detergent, thanks. Oh ... and a croissant or something like that."

"Okay. I'll be back soon."

Eve hands her the shopping bag. She moves closer and gives Eve a hug, kissing her forehead.

"Vil, drive carefully."

"Mmm ... I will. See you later." She turns and walks out of the door.

Villanelle gets into the car and pulls slowly out of the driveway. Their car is Jeep Grand Cherokee, which has good performance and is a great choice in Alaska. Villanelle remembered Eve's excited expression when they got the car two months ago. Her eyes became wide and said "Oh my God, this car is fantastic." They all like this car very much for its boxy appearance, luxurious interior and comfortable ride experience. Eve obviously never owned a car like this, which makes her very happy, and so do Villanelle.

Now, Villanelle is humming happily. The radio is playing Don't You Want Me by The Human League.

Half an hour later, she arrives at her destination.

It takes her a little while to find everything she needs. In the end, the shopping cart is full of things, toilet paper, laundry detergent, detergent, drinks, milk, rice, spaghetti, vegetables, meat and her lovely girlfriend's favorite croissants. Then she checks out and gets ready to go home.

Years ago, when she was with Eve in her apartment in Paris, Eve asked her what she wanted, and her answer was, normal stuff, a nice life, cool flat, fun job, and someone to watch movie with. Now she almost has everything she wants and craves. At that time, if she had been told that she would have these things and live in Alaska with the people she loved, she would have laughed and scoffed at the idea. She was serious, she really wanted these things, but she didn't think she can get it. After all, she couldn't escape from the Twelve. Then, everything changed. The connection between her and Eve took them to an unexpected direction.

Thinking of these things makes her heart sink, and she gripped the steering wheel.

The incident that happened on the Thames more than a year ago are still vivid in her mind. She dreamed several times about that night. She was shot, then being shot two times in the water before losing consciousness. She nearly drowned. Pam told her that the shot just below the shoulder was the real one, and the wound there was the worst. Then the bullets hitting in the water after that had been adjusted so that the amount of gunpowder was greatly reduced. This was Carolyn's plan. But her plan wasn't perfect, and beyond expectations, she passed out. She was tired and exhausted physically and mentally, the wound which was still new on her back, the fatigue after solving the Twelve, and then the real hit below her shoulder, these factors made her unable to withstand the next attack after entering the water. Even if these bullets were no longer lethal she still lost conscious, which was something Carolyn hadn't expected. The plan was that the divers take her, who was conscious, into the dinghy. Luckily she survives and lives a life she never dared to dream of, and she is grateful for that. Why to keep her alive? Carolyn told her that it was because she had spared her life. Was that true? Maybe. And Konstantin, the man like her father, had some kind of close relationship with Carolyn. Perhaps Carolyn was based on it. And then - there should be other reasons, Carolyn thought she was still useful. She is very satisfied with her life now, she doesn't want to change, and she doesn't want to kill any more. If Carolyn contacts her and offers her a new job, there will be a high probability of rejection. No, she will refuse, definitely.

Eve, Villanelle loves her, so much. She adores her too.

No one has ever loved her like Eve. Even knowing her past which was unbearable to recall and her dark side, Eve still doesn't leave. She understands, accepts, and loves her. She really cherishes the life now she has, everything. Everything is so hard-won. Villanelle is definitely not going to spoil that. In the past she killed people because of her work. Now, she won't do it anymore, and she doesn't have to do it anymore. It's unnecessary. Things that will destroy everything they have, and cause harm to her and Eve, she will not make it happen.

Eve changes her. Eve saves her. Eve is everything, her beloved.

Villanelle knows she is hopelessly in love with the dark-haired Asian woman.

She's an idiot in love.

She will do anything for Eve. She wants to spoil Eve.

She is willing to go out and drive in the middle of the night to buy Eve's favorite croissants. She even tried to make it herself.

She is committed to giving Eve a good life.

Now they have a great house, a comfortable car, and a nice life.

She's almost home.

Five minutes later, she pulls the car onto the path in front of the house, stops it and turns off the engine.

"Eve, I'm home." Villanelle takes off her shoes and puts the things on the ground in the porch.

Not seeing Eve. The robot vacuum is moving, cleaning the hair and dust on the ground.

After a while, Villanelle finally moves all the things into the house and positions them.

She takes a can of beverage from the refrigerator and drinks it. There are footsteps on the stairs, it's Eve.

"You're back."

"Mmm ... look what I bought?" Villanelle shakes the package in her hand. There are croissants and donuts.

"Thank you, Vil."

That's what Eve calls her now, Vil. They are away from a life of danger and chaos, and they no longer use the name Villanelle except at home. Oksana, her real name, Eve rarely calls her that. They all know the meaning of the name, which was given to her by her parents when she was born. But the person who used this name is no longer the person who she is now. She experienced too much and changed a lot. The name refers to herself in the past, who was lonely and longed for love, also immature. But she doesn't hate it, after all this name was given by her parents, and she is her father's baby, Oksana. It's just that she rarely uses it now, and to be honest, she likes Eve calling her Vil.

The young woman holds Eve's face and kisses her gently on the lips.

"I love you."

"I love you too, Vil." Eve presses a soft kiss on the skin under her lips.

I love you. Eve shows her love often, and so does she. Incident happened more than a year ago left trauma in their hearts. They almost lost each other, to be more precise, Eve almost lost her. They both dreamed that night a few times and it was really scary. Villanelle feels Eve become more open, and she doesn't hide her feelings. She expresses her love occasionally, in various ways.

"What would you like to eat tonight?"

"Simple things, bread, salad?"

"Okay." Eve pulls the chair and sits down.

A few hours later.

Villanelle washes the dishes in the kitchen, and Eve takes a shower in the bathroom upstairs. She dries all the dishes and stacks them on the kitchen counter.

Half an hour later, it is Villanelle's turn to take a shower. When she comes down from the second floor, Eve is sitting on their couch and watching TV, the screen stays on the page of Netflix.

"Is there anything you want to watch?" Eve turns to look at Villanelle.

The young woman almost jumps on the sofa. "Let me see," she takes the remote.

"How about this, Sandman?"

"After years of imprisonment, Morpheus, the King of Dreams, embarks on a journey across worlds to find what was stolen from him and restore his power." Eve reads the introduction on the page

"Want to see it?"

"Mm, Okay." Eve picks up the cola on the table and takes a sip.

The first episode finishes soon. It has 11 episodes, and Villanelle knows they can't finish it tonight. She looks at Eve. She is very focused, keeping her eyes on the TV. Her face is beautiful. Her eyes are shining. Her hair is amazing. Villanelle feels lucky to be Eve's other half and to be loved by her. She also feels very proud. She wants that she can wake up every day and see Eve lying beside her. She wants to grow old with her, and when they all reach the age of grandmothers, they can dance with energetic like the couple they met in the ballroom.

Villanelle' thoughts go back to the past. She thinks about how they met, what they experienced, Eve's previous work.

Noticing Villanelle's gaze, Eve turns her head, "What?"

Silence. No respond.

"Hey, hello." Eve raises her hand and sways it in front of Villanelle's face.

"Huh?"

"You keep staring at me."

"Oh. Mmm."

"Watch the screen," Eve says in pleased tone, caressing Villanelle's thigh. She knows that her girlfriend is obsessed with her and loves her very much, she deeply feels it.

"Can I ask a question? Now." Villanelle knows it's not a good timing now, but she still wants to ask.

"Okay." Eve looks away from the screen, intently looking at Villanelle.

"You miss those days? As a secret agent, tracking down assassins and running all over Europe."

This question comes too suddenly, and Eve doesn't answer right away. She stares at Villanelle's face, the woman looks a bit nervous, her facial muscles tense.

She shakes her head, "No, I don't miss those days at all."

"You think that made your life more interesting, don't you?" Eve knows what she is worried about.

Eve reaches out and holds Villanelle's hand. "Dear, relax." She rubs the back of her lover's hand softly with her thumb.

"I admit that as an agent, running around and tracking targets did inject a bit of energy into my life, and the life…was like a stagnant pool at that time. But ... my life also had been turned upside down."

Villanelle cannot escape. She cannot deny, either. She is the one who completely changed Eve's life, she turned Eve's life upside down.

Villanelle lowers her head and doesn't look at Eve's face, she is very sad. Eve's heart clenches.

"It was my choice. I had many opportunities to stop, but I didn't. I was stubborn and no one could sway my decision. I was impulsive, giving in to my inner desire and unable to stop," she explains.

"But," she pauses, "I've changed my mind."

"Such an exciting, interesting life like that, well I know it's just me would think that, anyway, accompany with instability and high stakes. And I or others may die. So, I don't miss that at all. I don't want the life like that. "

"I just want to live a peaceful life with you, get it? I want to be normal." Villanelle looks up at Eve's face.

"Really?"

"Yes, I'm sure."

"Mmm, and you can't find an assassin who is as obsessed with you and loves you as I am."

"Yeah, you're right." Eve chuckles.

Villanelle's expression relaxes. She smiles. Eve reaches out to cup her face in her hands, and presses a soft kiss on her lips.

"Feel better?"

"Yeah. Thanks to the kiss."

"Hey, no joking." Eve pats her face lightly.

"I'm not. Um ... well, I'm better now. Don't worry."

"When in doubt, just ask me, and I will tell you."

"Okay."

"What about you, do you miss your old life?"

Villanelle shakes her head. "No, I don't miss it. The life I have now is so good."

"I don't want anything but you. I want to grow old with you."

Villanelle looks into Eve's eyes, smiling. Eve stares blankly at her face.

"Mmm." Eve nods and reaches out to take hold of her hand.

"I want that too," Eve's voice is small and husky.

Villanelle's tone is firm. Eve knows that her lover is serious. Although it's just a word, it carries a certain weight. An eternal promise. This love promise makes her emotional, tears begin to well up in her eyes. Villanelle puts her hands on her face and gently wipes away the tears with her thumbs. Eve melts at her movements. She moves closer, Villanelle closes her eyes, and they share a kiss, then another.

"Feel better?" Villanelle asks, her eyes sparkling.

"Yes."

"You are passionate today," Villanelle grins.

"I am passionate every day."

"Well, I don't think so."

"Oh, I won't kiss you again, tonight," Eve says calmly, trying not to laugh.

"Oh no, I apologize. Don't do this to me, Eve. It's too cruel." Villanelle grabs Eve's wrist with both hands.

"Okay, I take that back." Eve knows that her caring girlfriend loves to kiss her, and loves to be kissed even more. She giggles at the look of panic on the woman's face.

Villanelle leans forward and kisses Eve's cheek.

After one minute.

"Continue watching?" Villanelle looks at her.

"Yes."

After more than an hour, they finish watching the third episode. Villanelle leans on Eve's shoulder. She is already drowsy.

"Vil, are you watching?" Eve says in a lazy tone, she is sleepy.

"Yes."

"I think the lead actor looks like the one of Twilight," Villanelle says.

"Mmm ... maybe because of the hairstyle," Eve replies.

"I think he's handsome," Eve continues.

Hearing Eve's words, Villanelle abruptly becomes awake, she looks up at Eve with wide eyes.

"What?" Feeling her gaze, Eve narrows her eyes, and turns to look at her confusedly.

"Wow! Complimenting someone in front of other half isn't polite, you know."

"Are you jealous?" Eve turns to stare at her with playful face.

"No." Villanelle moves closer, then her lips press on Eve's neck.

Eve gasps." Oh- "

Villanelle kisses Eve all over her neck, and Eve just lightly grabs the corner of her clothes.

"Mmm." Villanelle suddenly sucks hard on the lower position of her neck, that makes Eve moan. Well, this definitely leaves a mark.

After a while she kisses Eve's neck with opened mouth.

"Uh ... " Eve gasps, "Did you just bite me?"

"Maybe. I'm Vampire V now." Villanelle chuckles mischievously.

"Hey, stop being naughty." Eve pats her on the head before they both giggle.

After a while, Eve lies on the sofa, with her arms around Villanelle's neck, and they are kissing. In the beginning the kiss is slow and tender, and then becomes deep and passionate, they hug tightly and kiss each other hard, their breathing become chaotic. They don't separate until they are out of breath.

Villanelle lies on top of Eve with her head resting on her chest. She can hear Eve's heartbeat and it calms her. They are in this comfortable silence together.

"I'm tired and don't want to move, I'm sleepy." Eve gently touches her lover's hand, who is young and energetic.

"Okay, me too. Sleep," Villanelle says softly.

She moves sideways and pulls the rest of the couch out. They bought a large sofa that can be used as a bed if necessary. She turns the light off, takes out a blanket from the cabinet beside, and covers Eve up, then she also gets in. Eve rolls over to cuddle with her, and Villanelle places a kiss on Eve's forehead.

"Good night Eve."

"Good night, dear Vil."

"I love you."

"Mmm ...me too," Eve's voice are soft and indistinct.

Quiet. Dark and quiet.

"Can you be my wife?" Villanelle whispers into Eve's ear, not sure if she is still awake.

"Hmm ... " Eve mutters.

She turns her head to look at Eve, with a faint smile on the corner of her mouth, and she gently strokes Eve's arm placing on her body.

Did Eve hear her question? Well ...she will know tomorrow. She believes that one day it will come true.

Eve will be her wife, and she will be Eve's too. They will take care of each other. forever.

Soon there is only the sound of breathing in the living room. Both of them fall asleep.

For Villanelle, she gets the most precious thing in the world, Eve's love.

Love, it's what she needs. It is also what she is learning to give now.

She is over the moon. She is satisfied. She has happiness.

This is her whole world.
