Chapter Text
Maggie let out a content sigh as she buried herself deeper under the covers. Barely opening her eyes, she could tell it was already daylight, the early morning sun shining through an exposed sliver in the drapes. Knowing it was nearly time to get moving, she rolled over and smiled when OA snaked an arm around her waist.
"Where do you think you're going?" His voice was still husky with sleep, and Maggie found herself not wanting to move.
She traced her finger along his bearded jaw, knowing full well that she could stay like this forever. The only problem was that their impractical job wouldn't allow that.
All in all, the past two days had gone smoothly. The duo had been sent on a witness transport to Vermont. Since it was only six hours away, they completed the transport, then made some of the drive back all in one day. Both had been pretty exhausted after, so at the three hour mark, they decided to stop at a hotel and get some sleep.
They had called Isobel and she confirmed the bureau would pay for two rooms. Maggie wanted to laugh at that, knowing two rooms were just going to be a waste of the bureau's money, but she and OA weren't exactly ready to disclose their new relationship status.
Now they were set to finish the drive back to 26 Fed, and as much as she would love staying in OA's warm embrace, Maggie knew they had to get moving. "Jubal and Isobel are expecting us back before lunchtime. We've got to go soon."
"Or…" He leaned down to kiss her softly. "We could make something up, tell them we got delayed and stay like this a while longer."
Maggie chuckled, lightly swatting him on the chest before leaning in for a deeper kiss. She moaned at the feeling of his mouth moving so expertly against hers. Then his hands were suddenly roaming her bare skin and Maggie knew she could get lost in this.
OA hovered over her, after getting her all worked up. He was just about to enter her when the alarm started blaring from the bedside table. OA groaned, briefly resting his forehead against hers before reaching to silence the offending object.
He let out a sigh as he rolled onto his back, pulling Maggie with him. "It was a nice thought."
She couldn't deny that. "Rain check?"
"Oh you better believe it."
She grinned and stole one more kiss before reluctantly dragging herself out of bed. She felt OA's eyes all over her as she reached for his shirt to slip on. She shot him a sultry look over her shoulder. "Like what you see, Zidan?"
His lustful gaze hit her straight in the core and she was suddenly cursing that alarm clock all over again. He arose from the bed and she took the time to also enjoy the view. As he closed the gap between them, his arms encircled her waist, his eyes locking on hers. "I could look at you like this every day, for the rest of my life. You are the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen… and if you keep this up, Agent Bell, we won't be leaving this room today."
His eyes, though still filled with lust, were also conveying so much love that it nearly made Maggie weak in the knees… and that damn husky voice. She stretched enough to whisper in his ear. "You know, I could really use a shower before we leave… what about you?" She lightly bit his earlobe, smiling mischievously as she felt him shiver.
"You read my mind." Without warning, he bent down, picking her up and making her laugh in surprise. She quickly wrapped her legs around his waist as he fused his mouth to hers and led them to the shower.
…
After their too quick, but still satisfying shower, OA slipped on his clothes and turned to Maggie who was towel drying her hair. "I saw a coffee shop next door when we came in last night. How about I go pick us up some breakfast while you finish getting dressed?"
"Sounds great. I'll make sure all of our things are together." She walked over long enough to press a lingering kiss to his lips, then broke away with a mock scowl. "Now go, I'm starving."
"Yes ma'am!" He laughed and shook his head before grabbing his wallet and heading for the door.
While he was away, Maggie took a very quick turn getting herself dressed, then packed up the few items they both had brought along for the brief trip. They would still have a few minutes to enjoy their breakfast before it was time to hit the road.
All that was left was to return the room keys on their way out. Glancing around the room one final time, Maggie knew OA wouldn't be gone very much longer, and the thought of her partner made her smile.
The two of them had only been in a relationship for a short while, but it had happened pretty seamlessly, and she couldn't remember the last time she felt this happy. She was glad they got to spend last night like they did, putting work on pause even though it was only for less than twelve hours. Now it would be back to the hustle and bustle of New York.
After their things were by the door, Maggie sat down on the edge of the bed, and was just finishing lacing up her boots when a loud bang stopped her in her tracks. She would recognize the distinct sound of a gunshot anywhere, and as she listened closely, she heard two more followed by muffled screams. Her blood ran cold as she realized they came from the floor below.
Quickly grabbing her own firearm, as well as her cellphone and room key, she knew she needed to get down there. She cautiously opened the door, scanning the hall for any threats. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, she stepped out, and with her heart pumping hard in her chest, she prayed OA hadn't been on that floor.
