Chapter Text
ava, ava, ava. That's all Zach could think about, all day, every day. At first it had been a normal relationship, with ups and downs and sweet moments between them, but then it developed into something more, at least for zach. Meanwhile, Ava was just not ready for a real relationship. so, after a couple weeks of dating, they broke up. So how, he thought, did they end up in this situation?
It started with a class trip. “Congratulations class! you have won the all-expense trip to washington DC this weekend!” said mr. J. “Unfortunately, there are only 13 beds in the hotel, and 14 students… soooo were going to draw sticks for who has to share the bed” the class collectively groaned, nobody wanted to get the short stick with someone they didn’t like. As his turn to get a stick came up, Zach thought “this might not be so bad, if i get the short stick, i might be able to share a bed with that hot girl julia, or even alexa.” but as he thought that, everyone gasped, he turned around to see what the fuss was about and saw Ava, his ex-girlfriend with a small, 3-inch stick gripped in her hand. she looked at it with disgust, as if it were a chewed up pencil. “Well, there goes that idea” thought zach. At last, it was his turn to draw a stick. “Please don’t let it be short,” he prayed. He reached up with his eyes closed and pulled one out of the bundle.
“oooooh look who’s with his girlfriend” yelled the mean kid, max. “oh fuck” was the last thing zach thought before he ran out of the classroom. mr. J was yelling at him to come back to the classroom, but he didn’t care, all he wanted was to get away from the embarrassment of pulling the shirt sick and having to share a bed with his ex-girlfriend. people always forgot the ex part. He slowed down, running out of breath, and realized he was in the courtyard. He realized he was holding something in his hand, and looked down thinking it was his phone, only to see the goddamn shirt stick that started this whole mess. “FUCK” zach yelled, and threw the stick as far as he could. ( which wasn’t very far because he was 5’4” and had not done any physical activity in the past year) the school bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, and he started walking home thinking, “at least she’s hot” what a shitty day.

After grabbing a quick breakfast and running out the door to get to school quickly, Zach mused over the events of the previous day. He was so caught up in his own thoughts, that he didn’t even realize someone was rapidly coming into view. oof. papers, pencils, and notebooks went flying. “watch where you're going dipshit!” he heard a familiar voice yell. “ava?” he mumbled. “yeah wha- oh. it’s you.” “you don’t sound very happy to see me” “why would i be? I have to share a bed with you tonight” she responded. “hey, at least you didn’t get max” “i guess, anyways we’re going to be late for school you know.” Zach just remembered where he was going. “ohshitbyegottago” he said, running towards the school. “idiot” Ava thought, running after him.

They arrived at school just as the bus was leaving. “you children are lucky we had a delay, or else we would have left you here.” said mr. J in a stern voice. “we’re sorry sir it won’t happen again” said Zach and Ava together. “it better not, now get on the bus, we’ve got a couple hours ahead of us and it’s going to be dark by the time we get there” they slid into seats across from each other. “why’d you come here with her?” zachs best friend, ian, said. “I bumped into her…” Zach trailed off. “Well, sounds like your day is already off to a rough start, and don’t even get me started on tonight…” Ian said while making kissing sounds. “oh shut up” sigh. “Ian was right, he was going to have to try hard to hide his feelings tonight, if Ava knew he still liked her, who knows what would happen. Although, if she liked him back, maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if she found out…” these were the things zach thought about during their 5 hour long trip to DC. (Ian was asleep the. whole. time.)
