Artificer clutched her sheets tightly, tremor after tremor running through her body. Her breath was labored as she tried her best to calm down and relax her tensed muscles. She didn’t know why she was still emotional… this was trivial, accidental, even. Rivulet just slipped up while talking to her, that’s all…
She buried her face in her pillow again, holding the tears in in further. Rivulet apologized , multiple times! She didn’t mean a thing she said! But it still shook Artificer to her core. She let a sob ripple through her body, breath audible in her emotional state. She closed her eyes… maybe a rest would help…
Ping!
A notification popped up on Artificer’s phone. Shit, she forgot to turn on do not disturb. She reached for her phone slowly, wondering who could be texting her at this hour. Saint? Rivulet? Maybe even…
Hunter: hey arti you alright?
Hunter: you seemed really hurt after what riv said i wanna make sure youre doing fine
The burn-scarred slugcat let out a sigh of relief at seeing who was texting her. It was just Hunter checking up on her. Sighing again, she laid back, focusing her shaking paws on texting back.
Artificer: not exactly.
Hunter: do you wanna come over and
Hunter: i dunno
Hunter: look at the stars with me
Hunter: i heard theres an asteroid passing overhead tonight actually. wild
Artificer quirked her head at the offer. Look at the stars? Stargazing didn’t seem like something Hunter would do… but what did she know. They were just trying to be nice, to get her to relax. It was nice to be thought of.
Artificer: really?
Hunter: yeah babe (violent)
Hunter: you know how to climb on the roof right. thatll get us a better view
Artificer: i can do that.
Hunter: alright good bc im already up here and idk what to do without you
Aww. Hunter could be such a dork sometimes, contrary to their hardass exterior. Artificer took another, deeper breath as she pried herself off the bed, unlocking her window. Skillfully, she climbed through the window, hoisting herself up on top of the roof to see Hunter already there, wrapped in a heavy blanket. Immediately, a gust of cold wind blew past Artificer, making her shiver. She forgot it was the middle of winter, somehow… why was Hunter up here? Shivering, she made her way over to Hunter, sitting down beside them. Hunter’s gaze averted over to her. “Hey, Arti.” they welcomed. “Are you cold?”
“Obviously.” Artificer stated with a grumble. Hunter giggled, wrapping the blanket around the shivering slugcat, almost immediately warming Artificer up. They nuzzled Artificer’s cheek, whispering “That’s better.”. Artificer wrapped her arm around her companion, turning her gaze to the sky. “It’s beautiful tonight, isn’t it?” She purred, to which Hunter nodded. “Mmmhm. I really- oh! Arti, look!”
The two focused their gaze as a brilliant streak of light cascaded across the sky, dissapearing behind the horizon. Artificer gave a slight gasp of awe as the meteor crossed the sky. Hunter leaned closer into her. “I wasn’t lying, babe. I thought… seeing something like that would cheer you up.”
“I’ve… never seen a shooting star before.” Artificer muttered. Hunter elbowed her slightly, playfully. “Well, there’s a first time for everything. Did you make a wish?” they asked. Artificer thought it over for a quick second.
“Mhm.”
“What did you wish for?”
“I can’t tell you, dipshit. That’s not how it works.”
Hunter kissed Artificer on the cheek.
“Just what I wanted to hear.”
