Work Text:
In Mao’s opinion, their relationship escalated far too quickly.
He was just his friend. His unit leader. He always found Hokuto attractive, he will admit, but he didn’t think this would happen. All of Trickstar had always been super clingy with one another, so Mao was always affectionate with Hokuto.
But when did that affection intensify? When did their friendly hugs progress into tender kisses?
And to Mao, the most confusing part was that Hokuto wasn’t like that with the rest of Trickstar. It was only him. He was the only one who got to experience Hokuto’s gentle touch.
He didn’t mind it, though. It’s not like he was complaining. Eventually, after the change in their relationship, they began hanging out one-on-one more, and he really did love how passionate Hokuto was behind closed doors. He adored the way Hokuto would hold him and kiss his forehead. Mao will never get over how charming his smile is, he thinks. And the way Hokuto’s breath hitches when he hears Mao whispering I love you in his ear will always make his heart flutter a little more than he would like to admit.
And even now, when they’re left alone in the practice room while Subaru and Makoto grab them drinks, they’re pressed to each other’s sides, their pinkies interlocked as they simply talk to each other quietly. And while Hokuto is talking about something , Mao hears his lover interrupt himself to call Mao out for staring at him, and Mao knows that he was looking at him with a yearning in his eyes. He just smiles and presses a soft kiss to his cheek before Hokuto kisses his lips playfully once, twice, before capturing them in a longer, more passionate one. Mao can’t help but laugh breathlessly every time he pulls away, leaning his forehead against Hokuto’s when they part after their last kiss and lacing his hand with his.
He’s happy like this.
He’s happy with Hokuto.
