Work Text:
Shachi, Penguin, and I quickly made our way back to the Polar Tang. We spent the morning and part of the afternoon on the island we had docked at. Now we were trying to make it back for dinner.
“Right on time,” Bepo said as we came in the door.
Once the three of us got some food, we settled down with the rest of the crew to eat. That’s when I noticed we were missing one.
“Where’s the captain?” I asked.
“I haven’t seen him since this morning,” Penguin said.
“That doesn’t count. We’ve been out all day,” I said.
“Breakfast was when I saw him,” Bepo said.
“He’s probably got his nose in his books again,” Shachi said.
“He still has to eat,” I said as I finished my food.
“I told him when dinner was ready,” Bepo said.
“Well, if he won’t come to dinner then I guess I’ll bring dinner to him,” I said.
I fixed him a plate before heading to his office.
I knocked lightly on the door.
“Law, it’s me,” I said. “Can I come in?”
“Fine,” he said.
I walked in, closing the door behind me and just like Shachi said, Law was at his desk hunched over one of his books.
“I brought you something to eat,” I said, getting him to look up from his reading.
“You didn’t have to do that,” he said.
“Then maybe you should’ve come to dinner,” I said.
He moved the book so I could set the plate down.
“I lost track of time,” he said.
“Is that all it is?” I asked.
“What else would it be?” he countered.
I shrugged.
“I don’t know, but it’s the third time this week you’ve missed dinner and Bepo said he hasn’t seen you since breakfast,” I said. “Did you even go to the island at all?”
“I didn’t need anything,” he said.
“Neither did I but it was still nice to get off the sub for a little bit,” I said. “It would have been nicer if we could’ve spent some time together.”
“Next time,” he said.
“Yeah, next time,” I said. “Are you sure everything is okay with you? I don’t mean to pry, but I worry.”
“I really am fine,” he said.
“Alright,” I said. “Well, I’ll leave you be then so you can eat and get back to your book.”
I headed for the door.
“(y/n),” he said.
“Hm?” I asked, stopping just before the door.
“Is there anything going on between you and Shachi or Penguin?” he asked.
“I’m just friends with them,” I said. “Uh, is there some rule about crewmates dating that no one told me about?”
“No, it’s not that,” he said.
“Good to know,” I said. “So, why are you asking?”
“I’ve been wanting to talk to you about this for a bit now but I didn’t want to over step if there was something going on or there’s always people around or-” he said before I cut him off.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you nervous before,” I said.
I could see his face turn a light shade of pink.
“I’ve liked you for a while,” he said. “I didn’t know how to tell you without making things awkward.”
“Just like that,” I said.
He let out a sigh.
“If it makes you feel better I didn’t know how to say I liked you either,” I said.
“Just like that,” he said, a slight smirk growing on his face.
“Very funny,” I said. “Now that all that is out in the open, what do you say we go out to dinner on the next island.”
“I’d like that,” he said.
