"I can't do this. I can't do this on my own."
Greg sighed in front of the mirror and let his arms fall to his sides, what should have been his bow tie hanging around his neck.
Suddenly, two hands came to rest on his shoulders and slid forward, grasping both ends of the tie as Mycroft's voice whispered in his ear, "Look, I'll show you how it's done."
As Greg looked up into the mirror, he wasn't expecting the effect the sight of Mycroft's fingers tying the bow tie around his neck would have on him.
Mycroft's long fingers had always fascinated him, especially when they did things with such precision as they did now. He couldn't take his eyes off those fingers as they finished the knot.
Mycroft asked in his ear, "Do you understand now?"
Greg met his gaze in the mirror and with his eyes in his, he tugged at the end of the knot to untie it and said with a mischievous smile on his lips, "I'm afraid I don't, you'll have to show me again."
Mycroft, not fooled, began the knot again and Greg became aware not only of Mycroft's fingers on him, but also of the heat emanating from his body pressed against his and his breath in his hair. He leaned against Mycroft a little more, realizing he had finished the knot again and looked at him in the mirror, eyebrows raised.
With his eyes back on him, Greg tugged at the knot and whispered, "Again."
Mycroft leaned over and whispered in his ear, "I see we're having trouble concentrating, Detective Inspector?"
Greg had to stifle a moan at the shiver that ran through him and Mycroft continued, "I think we need to get down to some practical work."
He put his hands over Greg's and lifted them up to his neck, this time using Greg's hands to tie the bow. When it was done, he immediately turned Greg around and tightened the bow one last time, positioning it perfectly.
He leaned forward and pressed a lingering kiss to Greg's lips. Then as he straightened up, his expression changed from playful to tender, and, putting his hand on Greg's cheek, Mycroft said softly, "While this interlude is quite delightful, I wouldn't want us to be late for your night, Detective Chief Inspector."
Mycroft had emphasized the word 'Chief', pointing out Greg's promotion and the reason they were both dressed in fancy clothes.
Greg had already heard his new title spoken by his colleagues and others, but in Mycroft's mouth it had a different flavor that filled him with a certain pride.
As if Mycroft had followed the path of his thoughts, he slid his hand under Greg's chin and lifted it, saying softly, "I'm proud of you," before closing the distance and pressing his lips to his again. As they parted, he whispered in Greg's ear, "But after tonight, I'm willing to show you how to tie a perfect bow tie as many times as you want."
Greg chuckled softly and replied with a playful glint in his eye, "When this evening is over, my love, there are many other things I would like to see you do with your hands."
Then he took Mycroft's hand, raised it to his lips and planted a tender kiss on it before pulling his lover behind him for a more than enjoyable evening.
