Chapter 1: A Cute Guy On Roller Skates:

Chapter Text

Joe knew he would never forget when he saw his new neighbour for the first time in the summer of 1988.

"Hold the door," Someone shouted in Italian from the elevator. "Just two seconds please."

Joe thought it was Mr Nelson on the fourth floor who had been on crutches ever since his hip operation, so Joe leaned up against the main door and continued reading his Superman comic. Suddenly someone drove past Joe and when he looked to his right, he didn't see Mr Nelson but a guy his age. This guy was wearing bright neon hotpants, a pink tanktop with the text "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and a couple of roller skates. Joe knew it was rude to stare at people, but when the guy did a pirouette on the roller skates showing his ass, Joe knew he was a fan.

"Grazie," The guy said with a big charming smile. "Very kind of you to hold the door for me."

"Don't mention it," Joe replied. "New here?"

"Yeah," The guy replied. "And you?"

"Been here for a year now," Joe replied. "Hoping to move soon. Need to look at something else than a brick wall all the time."

The guy laughed and Joe knew he also was a fan of the laughter.

"I'm also not planning on staying here for long," The guy said. "Speaking of leaving. Gotta skate or else I will be late for work."

The guy rolled over to Joe.

"This is for helping me," The guy said before placing a kiss on Joe's cheek. "And this kiss is for being cute."

After another kiss on the other cheek, the guy rolled off and Joe just stared in that direction until someone else bumped into him bringing him back to the moment and he moved on.
