Chapter Text
The sound of a bell rang through the hallways.
”Alright class, have a nice lunch!” Mrs.Yako called.
When dismissed, Kou was super excited, as he had skipped breakfast. He decided to walk with Mitsuba, up to the rooftop to eat lunch with his friends.
“Hey Kou, uh, what are ya doing?” Mitsuba looked confused, why would he be? Kou didn’t understand, he was walking with him like he always did.
“What? I’m going to get lunch with you”
”Your hands, what are you doing? Is there water?”
When he looked down, only then did kou realise he was shaking his hands. For how long?
“Huh. I didn’t know, that’s odd”
”Yeah you do it a lot, it’s weird.”
”I do?”
By then they’d finished walking to the rooftop, meeting all their other friends. Kou was still confused.
As everyone was eating, chatting, and doing whatever else, Satou suddenly got a huge grin.
”Guys! I got us tickets to go to an amusement park this weekend! Who’s going with?”
Immediately everyone replied positively, as Satous been trying to get these tickets for two years now. He only wanted to go because of their so called “best cotton candy in the world” but who wouldn’t want to take friends to an amusement park? Probably Sakura, she doesn’t like her friends.
Everyone cheered, thanking Satou and promising to buy him sweets as a gift.
Mitsuba grabbed his arm.
”You're doing it again”
He was. Kou was shaking his hands again, stupid he didn’t know. He’d have to thank Mitsuba later for telling him.
While packing up after the final bell rang, Kou noticed something. Yokoo and Satou had left early today, oh well.
Making his way home was easy, getting on his bike and listening to music was what he did every day. If he didn’t it’d be too much. The birds, cars, rocks, all of it drove him crazy. Music was a lot more controlled, no unexpected noises, no crunching, no problems. Mitsuba thought it was weird, but then again he thinks everything is weird.
“Hey Teru, I’m home! I brought Mitsuba with me today, he’s staying for dinner.” Teru looked up from the TV show he was watching to wave at his little brother and friend before they went to Kous room.
After dropping their bags, they sat down across from each other on Kous bed. Played something like battleship.
“Hey Mitsuba, do I shake my hands a lot?”
”Yeah”
Kou obviously looked worried about this.
“It’s nothing bad, you’re just a little shaky that’s all.”
”Do you think other people saw me? They probably think it’s dumb.”
He was crying, shaking almost.
“Mitsuba what if they’re making fun of me? I look so dumb shaking my hands, like a little kid. I don’t mean to do it. I don’t like this.”
Moving the board game out of the way, Mitsuba held Kou as he cried into his shoulder. He really didn’t mean to shake his hands it just happened.
Little hiccups and sobs came from Kou. He was just a little too confused. Trying to ramble made it worse, as he flapped his hands around.
“Kou, calm down they wouldn’t do that.”
Mitsuba grabbed his hands and held them close to his own. It helped, a lot. He was, after a short while, grounded.
“I’m sorry Mitsuba, I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”
Little hiccups were still here and there, but he was overall better. Mitsuba still held him. It was hard not to tell Teru what happened, out of concern, because he really didn’t want to see Kou this worried.
“Bye Mitsuba! Have a safe walk home!”
Kou closed the door, quietly walking to Terus room.
“Hey Teru, can I ask you a question?”
”Sure”
”Do you ever see me shake my hands?”
A moment of silence passed as Teru thought.
”Yeah, anytime you get too excited, sad, overwhelmed, anything really. I saw you do it today when I said you could play video games with Mitsuba in the living room.”
Disappointed, Kou walked back to his room. How long has it been going on? Why did they wait to tell him?
