Work Text:

That Friday night, Casey was nervous.

Okay, nervous was a major understatement. She was terrified, and she had every right to be. The coolest girl in school had asked her out for pizza.

“Calderon, I’ve been saving up coupons for Lou, Mike Tony, Tony's Pizza!!! I was hoping you might like to come with?"

It wasn’t a date. "If the rest of her team wasn't booked she wouldn't have asked" she told herself, hoping that the harsh truth would soothe her heartbeat.

Still didn’t detract from the night’s other fun factoid. That they’d be alone together.

Her life was flashing before her eyes.

She had it bad since middle school. She could never get close enough so she stopped trying. She never thought she’d even get a chance.

Until that night, that amazing party.

The sudden ding from her phone interrupted her reminiscing “I’ll be there in 5 can’t wait!!😜”

Her cheeks rosy red “ok see you then!!”

A black turtleneck dress, black flat shoes, and a turquoise cardigan, all topped off with an elegant white purse. A perfect outfit for a perfect night out.

To quote Lu “Case, it's JUST pizza chill” but she didn’t see it. She was tying her hair in a neat ponytail when she heard it.

DING DONG

The noise made her jump a bit. Her dads had already let her in. She peeked around the corner of her hallway to see her.

Brooklyn looked amazing.

A black long sleeve purple skirt, black converse, and some flower hair clips. She ran to greet her

“OMG, you look amazing!!” The poor girl was bouncing up and down from pure excitement.

“Glad you like it. I felt I had to try something for a fashion connoisseur such as yourself." She exclaimed, taking a bow.

“Oh stop” she squeaked hoping she’d stay down long enough for her incessant blush to disappear.

The girl picked herself back up “Well, shall we?” she said holding out her hand.

She reached out, hesitantly.

What if I mess up? She looked up at her,

her nice warm smile…what could go wrong…

Casey grabbed her hand “LES DO THIS!!” “HECK YEAH!!”

The door shot open and they were off

Why did she have 15 coupons for 20% off a pizza deluxe combo? Not even she knew but they expired TOMORROW!!

Fawzia and Tai heard of an allegedly haunted condemned building so they were out of the question, and Geri had a requested habitat due the next day.

It would be boring without someone. She needed someone.

Then a name flashed in her mind. Casey Maria Eva Duarte Goldberg-Calderon.

A mouthful to say the least. Enthusiastic, talented, and honestly adorable. The night, a night with her would be great…

They stepped into the bustling establishment. Casey’s hand hadn’t let go the entire trip but Brooklyn didn’t mind.

The girls sat down at a booth, each sitting on the opposite side. Brook confidently leaned back in the seat as the waiter approached the table

“What will you be having this evening ladies?”

She looked at the menu and snickered “One deluxe combo with cheese pizza, cinnamon knots, and 2 large fountain drinks”

They raised a brow “might I ask how will you be paying for all that?”

Casey watched in awe as Brooklyn quickly whipped out all 15 coupons. The look on their face almost made her burst out laughing. “That will be all." She handed over their menus and the waiter walked off to give the hefty order.

As soon as they were out of earshot she started cackling “did you see the look on his face!?” She joined in “I know right it was so cool, you’re so cool!!”

She struggled to get the words out through her laughter as Brooklyn paused for a second.

Glancing at her…gorgeous smile, further illuminated by the table’s overhead lamp.

As if she were a shining star.

The food arrived and Casey was on her phone. Both taking pictures and texting Lunella for comfort until…

“So how did you become Moon Girl’s manager?"

She flinched "Oh yeah right!! That story umm that one well...it's a bit personal!!” she hoped she’d just drop the question,

she just couldn’t risk it.

“It's cool it's cool, it's your story.” She could feel Casey’s leg bouncing

“I just think it's inspiring how you can make it this far, and you're doing so well…its remarkable, your incredible Casey!”

She felt it stop, she looked back to see her just staring, there was even a shine in her eyes. A blush crept onto her face “oh look the food’s getting cold we should-“ she quickly shoved a slice into her mouth.

Casey was taken aback but started to giggle.

Brook smiled but quickly looked away as to not get lost in her eyes again. “You know I-“ Casey started, running her finger through her long black hair “-I always admired you.”

Brook raised a brow “Oh really?”

“Yeah, I mean who wouldn’t?”

Brooklyn chuckled beginning to get lost in her eyes as she started to ramble

“You’re freaking amazing! For a while I’d give anything to hang out with but...I could never get close enough so-“ she continued “-so I stopped trying.”

slowly forgetting who was sitting right in front of her as she spoke

“but when you asked me I felt like I was close enough that maybe-“

until

“-she could love me too“ Brooklyn’s cheeks turned bright red “Love you?” “Yeah love y-“

she snapped out of it

it was as if time stood still, but just for a moment. What had I done…

She quickly pushed herself up from the booth and stepped out

“Oh no oh my goodness something just came up,” she gave a forced awkward smile. “I need to go!”

And with that, she was out the door “I had a great time” her voice trailing off as she ran into the city streets

“CHECK PLEASE!!"

She ran, the neon street lights a blur as she made her escape. What was she thinking?!

She gripped her purse strap tighter.

She was stupid to think that she could ever love her! She was too much! She-

She stopped. She looked around the area, Nothing looked familiar. No Ahmeds Deli, No Roll with It!! Brooklyn brought her here. She hadn’t been near this area ever since the calamari alien situation, it was being just being rebuilt! What was she thinking…she was lost.

She sat on a bench, took some deep breaths, grabbed her phone from her purse, and said just 2 words

“C-Call Lu”

Lunella Lafayette. She and Dev were pulling an all-nighter. Friday nights were prime gadget tune-up hours. However, tonight she had a second objective. To be there for her.

There was a low hum as the phone vibrated against the countertop. Lunella glanced away from her mechanical marvel. She put it all aside and picked up

“Hey, Casey!! How’s it-“

She could hear her sniffling from the other end

“Wait Case…are you crying?”

“Luu, I don’t know where I am u *hic* can you and Devil pick me up?”

However, Tonight she had a second objective. To be there for her…

Oh pobrecita! Don’t worry me and Dev will be right there”

A low roar could be heard, as if supportive

“And don’t worry, I’m right here. What happened? Is Brooklyn with you?”

She tried to wipe the tears from her eyes the mascara staining her hands

“I don’t know where she is. I'm such an idiot-“

“Baby no! Just tell me what happened. I'm right here”

She took a deep breath in and

“Ok, I accidentally confessed to Brooklyn and ran away. I forgot she was the one who led me here, I haven’t been near the place since remember those goopy calamari lookin aliens from last year?”

“Oh Yeahh! that whole area was completely wrecked for months”

“It was just being rebuilt so I was super duper lost. I wasn’t thinking at all!! Ugh! like I said, I was total dumba-“

“Stop, you’re not ok? Look I’m grabbing your exact location right now just hang tight-“

She smiled put on a deep silly voice and declared

“Moon Girl will save you, citizen!”

With that, she burst out laughing. Lunella Lafayette was truly something. Just…perfect

but

“Lu…I messed up.”

The line was silent for a while

However, Tonight she had a second objective. To be there for her…

“Baby it will be alright…”

It was past midnight by now. She had thought someone called her name. She looked up but was only met with a bustling crowd. Anywhere else, you’d think they’d lost their minds, but this was New York. Nonetheless, she thought she was hearing things and looked back down

Then she heard it again

“CAASSEEEEEEEY!!”

She glanced back up, this time it was as if the crowd was being shifted as if shoved. Someone was in there, and it sounded like

“BROOKLYN?!”

Once she finally pushed past the crowd, once she could see her face, she couldn’t be happier.

“CASE-!!”

Casey immediately leaped into her arms. They both fell over knocking Brooklyn’s newly acquired rolling backpack and all their leftovers to the ground, but she didn’t mind. How could she?

Brooklyn hugged Casey tight, she never wanted to let go

“Girl, you had me scared sick! Are you okay” she spoke quickly, those very questions racking her brain for hours. She placed her hand on her cheek caressing it with her thumb

Casey placed her hand on hers

“I'm alright Im okay, How did you find me?”

“Lunella gave me your location…”

There was a pause as they both realized their situation, their position.

The two immediately got up and brushed themselves off hoping that the other wouldn’t notice their tomato-red face

Casey began to sob struggling to wipe the tears with her palms

“I'm sorry Brooklyn, I should’ve-“

She immediately interrupted

“It's okay it's all-everything is okay Im just so happy you’re-“

Brooklyn gave her a big hug

“-you’re ok”

And Casey hugged right back. Just…perfect

She struggled to move her arms to point behind at the toppled items

“Ummm what's with the bookbag?”

“Oh! I was thinking we could finish all of these…” she said picking up all the food-filled boxes “back at your place, and I asked my mom and your dads if I could maybe…sleepover?”

Casey’s cheeks immediately turned red at the thought of even-

“I mean I have their okay but it’s totally fine if you don’t-“

Casey gave the poor girl a warm smile and went to grab her hand

“I’d love to Brooklyn.”

She then reached over to grab some boxes, to lighten her load

“Now shall we?”

Brooklyn looked at her the light in her eyes almost immeasurable…ella es perfecta

“Let's do this”

“HECK YEAH!!”

and with that, they were off...

Notes:

That night, Brooklyn Castro, was nervous. She didn’t want to mess anything up. Not with her, she didn’t know why.

“Just chill this isnt a date” she told herself hoping to soothe her aching heart. But nothing

she said could hide her from the truth. That they’d be alone together… <3
