Work Text:
Cold is the life of a Mariner’s wife. The words crept into Erendis’ heart, and she leaned out the window, looking West.
“They say you were faithful, Queen Mother of the West,” she whispered. “Faithful enough to your husband, whose true love was the Sea, that you would forsake your babes rather than live without that love. Is that a sacrifice I, too, must make?”
Behind her, Zamîn chanted softly to soothe Ancalimë. Erendis looked back, then turned toward the window again, eyes stinging with tears. “I have ever been faithful. I will find my happiness, and keep my child.”
