Kiriko Kamori has actually gone mad.
Or that's just how Lena likes to tease her. Kiriko herself doesn't think she's insane. It's totally perfectly normal to be staring at Hana Song, one of Kiriko's closest friends in Overwatch, the one that's been on Kiriko's mind day and night ever since she joined, she's also only five feet away, drinking out of an apple juice box and laughing at something Genji was saying.
In her defense, or so she likes to argue, have you seen Hana? To call her beautiful would be an understatement. Kiriko thinks that Aphrodite took her own sweet time crafting Hana's face to perfection and the angels themselves blessed her with everything they could've possibly offered. In fact, Hana and the Sun actually hold little to no difference, if Kiriko had to choose between either, it'd be like replacing something with the exact same thing since Hana's smile alone could warm and light up any place just as the Sun could.
Yeah, Kiriko was definitely not going crazy.
"Kiriko? Are you listening to me?" Suddenly, her vision of her oh so perfect Hana was obscured by a waving hand in her face. The ninja snapped out of her trance, her face blooming an embarrassing shade of red as she nodded quickly at the person who was speaking to her.
"Mhm! Yeah, yep! Totally paying attention!" All that earned her were a few snickers from Lena and Brigitte as the latter retracted her arm and a small sigh from Winston. Kiriko internally punched herself for checking a coworker out while her boss was literally briefing them on their next mission. Lena elbowed her and whispered, "Told you, you're going insane for her!"
Out loud she said. "Sorry about that Winston! Kiriko's throat was just getting a little dry. I think she needs a drink!"
As if she was listening in this whole time, Hana perked her head up and looked over (which Kiriko found absolutely endearing). She then jumped out of her seat to jog over, juice box in hand and hold it out for Kiriko to take.
"Here! We can share! Sorry I can't get you a new one, there aren't many drinks left in the cooler since someone," she shot a glare at Genji, who rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled guiltily. "decided that it was a good idea to wake up in the middle of the night and drink it all."
"It's not my fault the water cooler is broken and I need my hydration!" Genji shot back. The gamer and the older ninja began to playfully bicker.
Kiriko on the other hand, wasn't doing so well. Unfortunately for her, there's only so much Hana she can take in a day and the fact that the girl she probably (definitely) liked was offering to share a juice box with her? Kiriko's poor heart couldn't handle it. It's like the wires in her brain had short circuited, leaving her incapable of doing anything.
Hana noticed the other's hesitance and broke away from her fight with Genji to stare at her curiously.
"What's wrong? Don't you want to drink some?" She shook the juice box a little for effect. Kiriko swears her face started heating up again. God she needs to get a grip or Hana would notice. (Hana does in fact, notice and she's enjoying every second of it.)
"Oh! Right! Yeah, thanks for the drink dude!" Kiriko finger guns at the other with her free hand before quickly turning her head to focus her attention back onto Winston, who had continued his briefing on their team.
And Kiriko really tries so hard to focus on what's being said instead of the fact that Lena was trying her absolute best to not burst into laughter beside her; or the fact that she can feel her ears turning red from what she just did to Hana (did she really just fucking dude-zone her crush and fucking finger gun at her? who even does that!); or the fact that Hana is still right there behind her wearing a shit-eating grin and watching as Kiriko becomes a mess in front of her.
The second Winston finishes the briefing, Kiriko jumps up, shoves the juice box (that she barely brought herself to drink a sip from) back into Hana's hands with a loud "Thanks for the drink! It was really yummy!" and teleports straight to her room before the other could even reply.
Back in her room Kiriko screams into her pillow. Understandably since she's just embarrassed herself in front of her team and the girl she likes. She can't possibly show her face to the other heroes ever again. The young ninja feels her phone vibrate with notifications and she reluctantly look at it.
To make things worse, Lena had texted her a chain of messages.
"That was great sweetie! You did great!"
"Maybe less yelling before teleporting off next time, it kinda hurt my eardrums :("
"Hana's asking where you went, I think she's looking for you"
"Oh she's going up to your room btw! Just thought I'd let you know!"
Kiriko groaned into her pillow, seriously contemplating if she should just quit Overwatch and go back to her life of being a criminal (at least she'd be cool and mysterious there instead of being a big fool like she is now), when Lena's last message finally processed into her head.
Hana was what?
As if on cue, the melodious voice of Hana Song rang from the other side of her door.
"Kiri? Are you alright?"
Three knocks on the door before she continues.
"If you're in there please let me in, I want to talk to you."
A pause.
"Also you spilled juice all over my shirt when you shoved it back into my hands just now."
Kiriko shot up, her face burning once again. She must be the unluckiest person alive. To further prove her point, she almost trips running to the door to open it up.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry Hana I-"
The young ninja was cut off by Hana's laugh.
"God, you're adorable. It's fine look!" She points at her shirt, a small stain that was barely visible was beginning to lighten in colour from drying. "It's not a big deal, I just said that so you'd open up quicker. Although I would have been quite willing to wait out here for you all day as well." She winks at Kiriko and the ninja swears she was just shot by an arrow.
She runs a finger through her hair awkwardly and laughs. "Sorry for making a fool out of myself earlier, it's just that it's difficult to not be flustered when talking to a stunning girl like you."
This time it's Hana who's ears heat up. How the hell did she say that so casually? Wasn't she an awkward mess just seconds before? What happened to that!
"What the hell man!"
"What? It's true though." The older shrugs and looks at her, her embarrassment now gone, the universe had sent her a chance to redeem herself and she was going to cling onto that chance. "You are beautiful, and I think that if I was given the choice to choose between telling you how I feel and breathing, I'd use my last breathe to tell you how much I like you in a heartbeat."
Forget light heart palpitations, Hana's heart was pounding in her ears from the adrenaline. She just knows Kiriko can hear the cogwheels in her head turning to process everything that just came out of that stupid (lovingly) ninja's mouth. She was doing such a good job acting as the cool and collected one before, how on earth did the roles reverse so quickly? Get a grip Hana Song. You are not going to break your no-loss streak over a pretty girl.
"So then do it." Hana breathed in.
"Excuse me?"
"Tell me how much you like me."
Kiriko wasn't one to understand signals very well but she was ninety percent sure this was the part where she kissed Hana.
So she did.
And thank god Hana kissed back.
Hana's lips tasted like the apple juice she'd been drinking just minutes before, they were so soft that Kiriko was afraid that if she kissed her too roughly the other would break apart. So instead she opted to delicately cup her cheek in her hand, steadying the shorter as they continued to kiss. When the ninja felt a smile against her own lips and two arms wrap around her neck in response, she swears her heart leapt for the heavens.
When they finally pulled apart, Kiriko felt herself chasing after Hana for one last peck but she was stopped by a hand on her lips. The ninja cocked her head to the side in question and Hana had to hold everything in her to keep her from kissing that stupidly endearing face again.
"You haven't told me how much you like me yet."
Kiriko's eyes widened. "Was the kiss not enough?"
"No, it definitely was." The gamer had a cocky grin on her face now. "But I just want to hear you say it."
"Well," Kiriko wrapped her arms around the shorter girl, pulling her closer, "I like you enough to want to ask you to be my girlfriend, if that's what you're looking for."
Hana looked into the other's eyes. Kiriko's expression had hardened in seriousness, trying to get her point across to the other. Hana was slightly embarrassed to admit that she was attracted to the look Kiriko was giving her at that moment. Their faces were so close, the younger's senses were overloaded with just Kiriko. The light scent of sakura flowers; and now, after leaning in and once again capturing the other's lips in her own, the sweet and cooling tastes of apple and mints.
This time their kiss was much shorter, Hana being the first to break away.
"Yeah, by the way."
"Hm?" The ninja hummed questioningly, half a mind still on the feeling of kissing Hana.
"I'd love to be your girlfriend." She clarified. Her heart warming at the words being spoken aloud.
"Cool! Cool! Can we kiss one more time? Your lips are very nice to kiss." Kiriko murmured, her eyes still closed.
"Now that we're dating we can kiss whenever we want, I'm your girlfriend after all, why rush now?" The gamer gave her another peck anyways despite her words.
The ninja couldn't believe her luck. THE Hana Song was all hers. She flashed a lopsided grin and picked Hana up, twirling her in the process.
"Girlfriend. I like the sound of that."
