The argument
They had been at it for what? Five? Ten? Fifteen minutes maybe? Whatever it was, it felt like hours, and he was beginning to have trouble breathing. But there was no way that he would be the one to stop first. Not that he wanted to stop… Besides, he was terrified to face her when they would. She obviously would blame him, that's for sure, but to what extent?
Without stopping kissing her firmly, he pushed a bag of balls from the vaulting-buck next to them, and - with a firm grip - he set her down on it with a swift movement. He had to; his neck began to hurt from constantly bending over. He’d never realized how short Videl actually was.
Listening to her soft moans against his lips, he tried to comprehend how they ended up like this; how a simple argument could lead to this.
She had been hot on his tail for over a week now, more than usual; asking him all these questions, eying him with that deep penetrating frown of hers, and she even followed him after school. All because she suspected him for being that superhero ' the Great Saiyaman '!
She was right of course… but he would never admit that…
He had done his best to set her off the wrong path. Every day he'd walked for miles to the train station before heading home - hoping she would believe he was going to school by train. Or keeping his story straight that he really was somewhere else when Saiyaman had appeared. But whatever he did, he couldn't help his nerves around her.
And that was exactly the reason why he was in this position. Not that he was complaining…
They were at P.E. and the teacher had asked Gohan - who tried to avoid participation as much as possible - to bring the dodgeballs they'd used to the storage room. He'd managed to be the first one out every round - not that it was a difficult task; there were enough jocks who were picking on him.
Videl, however, had followed him and when she caught him all in the back - the place they were still at right now - she'd cornered him. As usual she asked him for an explanation for something. It started small, something like " Why didn't you dodge that ball Sharpener threw at you? You didn't even try!"
She wasn't amused to begin with. Besides her obsession to figure him out, she hates losing. And it so happened that today Gohan was put in her team.
" I can't help that I'm bad at sports!" was his answer. He'd cursed inwardly; she was blocking his only way out. He'd had no other choice but to engage the conversation and talk his way out of this one.
" Oh c'mon, not this crap again." Yep, she wasn't amused at all. Maybe her getting nowhere with him was getting too frustrating.
" I'm serious… " the Saiyan hybrid had pleaded, but she didn't buy it of course.
" Yeah right. How stupid do you think I am? You've a much too athletic build for someone who doesn't do sports ." And there it was, her penetrating eyes looking right through his soul - the one that made him so nervous around her.
" I-I live on a farm! I just work hard, that's all…"
"And yet you were pretending to have problems lifting those dumbbells at P.E. last week. Those are what? 20 pounds? A bag of grain is like 45? What kinda farmer are you? "
He shifted his head a little and angled hers to get better access, kissing her even deeper. Kami, he'd never thought that this would feel so great. He didn't even care that he'd lost the battle. He had been caught - simple as that; her hands were all over his body, feeling every well-developed muscle he had on it. Now he would never make her believe he'd have trouble lifting 20 pounds…
Alright, he admitted that he might have overacted that time. But seriously, how could he know what was a normal amount to lift and what wasn't? For him 400 pounds wasn't even a challenge.
" Why do you even care? " He'd frowned - breaking down his happy care-free image for the first time. “ Stop bugging me. I am under no obligation to justify myself . Just leave me alone, will you? ”
“ Aha! I knew it. You are hiding something! ”
“ So what?! Can’t someone have his personal boundaries? I’ve been here at public school for what - a month and a half?! Sorry that I don’t entrust everything to people I don't really know, especially if those people are constantly scowling at me all the time as if I’m the worst person ever! ”
She’d put her hands on her hips, sighing fakely as if she was uninterested in his arguments, “ C’mon Gohan, we both know that’s not the problem here. ” She smirked, he could clearly see she enjoyed his torment.
“ Why do you want to even know? What’s your gain? ”
“I don't trust people who aren't honest," She'd said cooly with her nose in the air, smirking.
Even though her words did bother him, he was so tired of it, " Well, then don't. Just leave me alone."
Gohan almost chuckled out loud, thinking back to those words; alone? He didn't want to be alone at all right now. He wanted to be with her and, to reassure his thoughts, he pulled the raven-haired crime-fighter closer against his body. In the meantime she'd thrown her arms around his neck and ran one of her hands down his hair - making him very at ease.
Something he wasn't a short while ago.
" So you admit you aren't being honest?"
"That's not what I-"
"I know, Gohan! I know that you are him!"
Gohan's face probably had said it all - the nervousness; the fear; the shock. Videl could tell right then and there she had him.
" Remember last Monday?" She'd crossed her arms and looked at him sternly. " I asked the chief to send me a fake call. I left and hid behind the lockers. And do you know what I saw? I saw you leaving class two minutes aft-"
"I-I went to the bathroom…" He'd hastily said, becoming quite desperate as he didn’t know how to talk himself out of this. He knew exactly what she was talking about back then. He'd left school, rushed to the place he thought the crime was happening - it really sounded serious. But when he'd arrived, nothing was out of the ordinary except for a lone police car. Gohan - dressed as his alter ego the Great Saiyaman - had knocked on the window to ask where the crime was. However, when the window was pulled down, he saw the policeman looking right at him, while moving his radio to his mouth, " Yep, he's here as you'd expected ."
First he was confused, looking behind him to see if he'd missed someone or something. But when he didn't see anyone, he understood the police officer was talking about him. Not feeling at ease, he'd fled the scene and returned to school right away.
" I checked the bathroom, Gohan… You weren't there!"
"You did WHAT?! You are insane!"
"Why? It's just the same bathroom but with some extra urinals and a different sign on the door."
"Not that… You stalking me!"
"It's not stalking, it's investigating!"
"Oh no, it's stalking! I did nothing wrong; there is no reason to 'investigate' me!" Gohan'd felt anger boiling up - more at himself than her. He should’ve known that she wasn't at the crime scene; that she was still in the school’s corridor. He should’ve checked her Ki; he really had fucked up this time.
" Nothing wrong? You are a liar! I timed you from when you left to when you came back. And you know what?! Right in the middle of it the police informed me 'Saiyaman' was at the place I'd set up. And for your information, I made sure that that message only was sent to my watch and not over the police radio. In fact, over the radio there was another place announced - and guess what?! Nobody showed up there! And all I want right now is to hear it from your goddamn mouth that you are Saiyam-hm"
He'd panicked. He just couldn't bear to hear those words leave her mouth. He didn't want her to know. He didn't want his secret identity to be discovered. He just couldn't hear her say it.
So he did what he had to do: he silenced her…
But because he’d just a fraction of time to do so, he somehow chose to do it with… well… his mouth. Why? He wasn’t exactly sure. Maybe the dreams he'd had lately involving him and Videl were part of it, or the weird feeling his stomach made when she was in his presence. Feelings he couldn’t recall. But he did admit he’d wondered at times how it was to kiss her; her lips looked so - well… kissable?
His hands moved from her hips to her back, just above her spandex pants and under her shirt; he wanted to know how soft and warm her skin was. He did it slowly, to make sure she had the chance to intervene if she was not okay with him doing it. But she let him; even grabbing his collar more firmly. Though, he made a mental note this was as far as he’d go. The things they were doing were already inappropriate. What would his mother think of it when she found out? That her son was kissing a girl this passionately without even being on a date; during school-time for crying out loud!
When his lips first touched hers, he'd regretted it instantly. He was completely paralyzed: in shock at his own actions; terrified of her reaction. What would she do? What would she think?! What would…
And then it happened. He’d felt her body relax and she took a step forward, leaning into his kiss. He didn’t know what to do; he’d never kissed a girl before. But he also didn’t dare to pull back, so he’d chosen the safest option: stay put and adjusted his body to a less uncomfortable position. His movements however triggered her to move as well. He went along with her movements, and before he knew it, she’d deepened the kiss.
From all the reactions he could possibly think of, he hadn’t expected this one. In his mind, the most positive outcome there could be was that she would slap him in the face and that his actions would overshadow their previous conversation. But this… this was much much better. However, he was terrified of what she would say whenever she got the chance to talk again, so he kept going. And there they were…
But sadly, all things come to an end.
“Well have I ever!”
With a jolt, Gohan immediately stopped what he was doing and stood straight; his hands stiffly beside his body and his beet-red head slightly bent to the ground - a physical reaction he’d normally had when his mother caught him doing something she would disapprove of. He didn’t dare to look at any of them - not the teacher, and certainly not Videl.
“I came here to see why you were gone for almost half an hour and found this! I expected better of both of you, certainly of you Son,” Mr. Jimu said sternly.
“I-I’m sorry sir,” Gohan replied, highly embarrassed of his display the P.E. teacher had walked in on.
“Well, you can tell how sorry you really are at detention.”
Gohan’s eyes shot wide, “D-Detention sir?” Oh his mother’s going to kill him.
“Yes, detention! Now get to your next class before I make it a double punishment!” It was obvious Mr. Jimu wasn’t pleased.
Both teenagers hurried out of the storage room and with a quick stride they walked to the changing rooms. Gohan didn’t dare to say anything, but Videl was quick to say, “This is your fault, you know that right?”
“What the-'' Gohan stopped right in his tracks. Her comment struck him the wrong way, “My fault?! You were stalking me, remember?! I was only bringing equipment back to the storage room! How could this be my fault?!”
“ You were the one who kissed me !”
“And you kissed me back!”
They both became dead silent as they looked at one another, realizing what they’d done. Now blushing profusely, both teens avoided looking at each other. Videl tucked away some strings of hair behind her ear while turning her body away from Gohan, while Gohan himself fumbled at the strap of his sports bag. After an awkward silence, Videl mumbled, “We’re going to be late, let’s go before we end up with more detention.”
Gohan hummed in acknowledgement, still too embarrassed to say anything else.
The rest of the way they’d stayed quiet. When arriving at the dressing rooms, Gohan had already put his hand on the handle and was about to enter when Videl hesitantly spoke up, “Gohan?”
Looking at her - his cheeks still heavily blushing - his eyes lingered at her now twinkling eyes. He patiently waited for her to speak and was surprised she had a slight but shy smirk on her face, “Let’s argue more often.” She winked at him and teasingly added, “But don’t think I'm going to let you win the next one,” before she disappeared into her dressing room.
Gohan stood fixed. Did she… Did she just tell him she wanted to make out with him in the future?
And when the realization sank in, he couldn’t contain a big grin from forming on his face before he entered his own dressing room. These kinds of arguments with her… he didn’t mind.
Not at all.
