Follow Me Like the Moon

Summary:

“I do.” Wednesday looked at Enid. She knew she’d never told anyone about this, not anyone outside her family.

“You do what?”

“Have a mark.” Enid looked dumbfounded at her. “I have two in fact.” Enid’s jaw dropped and she sat up.
_______
Enid doesn't even have one soulmate mark but cold, "I hate soulmates" Wednesday Addams? Oh ya, she has two.

Chapter Text

Everyone is born with a soulmate mark. Not all soulmate marks are for romantic love but the identical ones are. Sometimes there are platonic soulmates that have complimenting marks. Some have twin flame marks. Some cover your whole body, some are just a speck or blob, and some are real designs with meaning. It all differed between people and a person type of outcast.

Werewolves' marks only matched with other Werewolves and they are only romantic soulmate marks. Once a wolf got their mark the draw to their matching soulmate was extreme and could even be dangerous. Many Werewolves turn in elementary school, which is when most Werewolves also got their marks. This made it less of an issue but the community still decided to make private schools to keep everyone slightly safer.

Enid however lived in a cruel world and spent her former years pining over everyone else's soulmate mark. She wasn’t sure she was ever going to get one, she was 16 years old and still hadn’t transformed. Everyone she knew had already transformed, including her little 8-year-old sister. She felt pathetic. She cared less about becoming a “real Werewolf” as her mother says and more about the fact that she would never have a soulmate. She tried to pretend not to care.

But that was impossible because at Lupine Academy everyone had a soulmate and it's all everyone ever talked about. Of course, all outcasts had them but they are less extreme in their culture. You could date outside of your soulmate and marry other people. Not Werewolves. It had been drilled into her head from a young age. It was part of their identity. Your only mate, your only love, your very best friend was only one person and it was the person with your matching mark.

The Addams took soulmates as seriously as they did the law. Wednesday's mother and father were not soulmates, they were as they would say “twin flames”, and neither had a matching mark. Morticia didn’t even have a mark. Gomez did but once he fell in love with Morticia, it no longer mattered to him. He was best friends with his soulmate but besides monthly dinners and family visits/holidays, that was it. They were not lovers. It wasn’t entirely common not to have a mark so it wasn’t surprising when Pugsley was born with one.

However, it was extremely rare to be born with two. Gomez joked that Wednesday got her mother's missing mark. Wednesday found it as a cruel joke the universe was playing on her. She paid no mind to her marks. They are both easily (ish) hidden, one much more than the other. She never really got asked about them anyways. Her family knew. Normies didn’t understand soulmates to begin with. Anyone else already knew about the Addams' distaste towards soulmates. So it was the lie of the family. Wednesday was just like her mother. Another stark similarity. No marks, no questions. It was simple.

She wasn’t going to go look for this person(these people?) if the universe was gonna claim them to be destined together, the universe could put in the work. She sure wasn’t going to do it. Most of the time though she just forgot they were even there. She had more important things to worry about. That was until she landed herself at Nevermore Academy and that's all anyone would ever talk about, especially her roommate, Enid Sinclair.

Chapter 2: Soulmates Are So Over-Rated

There are not enough soulmate AU for this ship

Chapter Text

Enid always noticed how Wednesday never talked about soulmates or brought up a mark. They were halfway through the year and not a peep. Most people would figure that’s because the Addams don’t do soulmates. How can you just not do soulmates?! But Enid noted Wednesday never actually spoke up against them like she’d heard both of Wednesday's parents do during parents' weekend. She just stayed quiet and listened to the rest of the group talk about it. It wasn’t abnormal for Wednesday to not talk, but not even a snarky or scary remark? No bringing up the “oh what if your soulmate dies, what if I don’t have a soul?” type shit that Enid expected from Wednesday. However, she was thinking about this way too deeply during lunch, clearly.

“Enid!” Ajax said, waving a hand in front of Enid’s face. She watched his soulmate's mark blur slightly in her vision. His was a simple yellow winding strip that resembled a snake wrapping around the palm of his hand. She brought herself back to the subject at hand.

“Sorry what?” Enid tried not to burn up in embarrassment.

“We were talking about soulmate marks and what you thought yours might look like? And what your mates might look like?” Yoko asked. Their group talked about soulmate marks all the time.

Ajax - Dope snake squiggle

Bianca - Large water pattern that covers her whole left side.

Yoko - Enid doesn’t actually know what it’s meant to be but it looks really cool

Divina (who only hangs out with the group sometimes) - She is the only person at the school (and neighbors 2 academies) with 2 marks. One with her twin brother Kent, they have complimenting koi fish. She also has a matching one with Yoko. So Enid still doesn’t know what it is.

Xavier - A large lily flower along his spine

Wednesday - Unknown

“I hope It's something big and colorful. I want it to take up as much skin as possible. Like Bianca’s.” Enid held out her hand as Bianca showed off hers, even though the group already knew what it looked like. Nearly half the school already found their soulmates. Besides Yoko and Divina, their little group hadn’t. So this game of what ifs and who’s, was a staple.

“I think I’d like my person to have a matching one on the opposite hand. So we could hold hands and they would touch. You know, to get that spark?” Ajax glanced over at Yoko to confirm. Yoko nodded her head.

“First it's like a lightning strike but it calms down into a simple warmth. Kind of like a warm place or fuzzy blanket.” Yoko glanced around the courtyard. “Remind me to show you guys tomorrow when Divina is here.

The conversation continued calmly like that for nearly all of lunch.

“Wednesday.” Bianca turned her attention to the smaller girl. “What do you think of soulmates? Doesn’t your family hate them? Do you even have a mark?” To give Bianca the benefit of the doubt, Wednesday hadn’t said a word all lunch and the rest of the table were all clearly dying to know. From the way they all stared at Wednesday the questions had clearly been on their minds too. Including Enids.

“My parents don’t match, my mother doesn’t even have one. We do not hate them. My father has a fine enough soulmate. They just are not the be all end all. We don’t let the universe decide our lives.” Enid noted yet again Wednesday avoided the question about her own soulmate mark.

“That's sick.” Ajax chimed in getting a slightly upturned nose from Wednesday.

“Does your mother hate your father’s soulmate?” Yoko asked.

“No, She is family.” Was all Wednesday gave up on the matter.

Bianca got ready to ask more questions when the large bell in the quad began to sway, ringing all throughout the school and marking the start of afternoon classes. The group said their goodbyes and made their way to class.

Bat Shit Baddies

Big fish: You have got to find out what her soulmate mark looks like!

Pup: Why do I have to

Jax: Bianca just wants to see if they are soulmates 😍

Big fish: NO I just wanna see what it looks like

Jax: Guess if anyone is going to do it, it would be Enid.

Sharp Tooth: She has to have something real spooky

Draw +2: Whoa what did I miss at lunch?

Big Fish: We missed your zapy sparky soulmate shit so we moved onto Wednesday Addams soulmate mark.

Enid put her phone down as class began. She had to silence the group chat as the messages kept pouring in.

Was she seriously gonna try and engage in that conversation?

Enid lay on her bed, upside down dangling on the edge watching Wednesday type. She was so trying to have this conversion. Both because she was the one to know everyone's business and she was genuinely interested in her roommate's life. She craved for Wednesday to like her. She had a bad habit of trying to befriend those who seemed to scare everyone else off. She wasn’t doing a bad job. Wednesday willingly sat with them at lunch, whether she talked or not wasn’t important.

“Soooo” Enid dragged out.

“Yes, Enid.” Wednesday continued to type and faced away from Enid.

“What’s your soulmate mark like? Do you have one? I'll tell you all about mine if you share!” Enid tried to add some excitement to her words.

“Enid I'm not telling you anything and I don’t need you to tell me about yours.” Enid pushed herself further on the bed so her head was balancing on the ground.

“But I'm your roomie and like your best frie-” She wiggled slightly trying to get a better look at her roommate as she lost sight of her from being so low to the ground.

“Indeed, you don’t even have anything to share. You don’t have one.” Wednesday caught her off guard. Enid’s legs slipped and her body weight became uneven and she slammed onto the floor. Smacking her head on the hard wood with a loud crash.

“Ow. Didn’t have to be so mean about it.” She rubbed her bruised nose as she sat up. Everyone knew about Enid’s lack of mark but normally no one would acknowledge it like that.

“I did not cause you to fall off the bed, that was your own doing. Control your own appendages better.”

“I’m not talking about that, asshole.” Enid went and sat on Wednesday's bed just to piss her off. Wednesday turned to glare at Enid. Enid sat with her head up against the headboard, pouting.

This felt like the first week of her time here when Enid somehow convinced Wednesday to reveal a story she had bottled up for a long time. Enid being all sad and mopey. The only way Wednesday knew to cheer Enid up was to reveal something secret about her own life. She never says sorry though. Instead, Wednesday climbed up on the bed and sat on the other side.

“Why do you care so much?” Wednesday questioned.

“About yours?”

“About yours” She retorted back. “Just because the universe sets you up with some random person doesn’t make them your one true love.”

“But for me, even half a Werewolf, it matters. That’s our future. Our one person. Werewolves don't get platonic soulmates, we only get romantic. Everyone has one. I don’t know a single Werewolf without one.”

“You don’t have one.”

“God yes Wednesday.” She whipped her sweater sleeve across her face. “I don’t have one.”

“No, you don’t and you are still a Werewolf.” Wednesday knew Enid was going to go on about not transforming so she beat her to it. “Yes, I know you haven’t transformed. You are still a Werewolf.” Enid was unconvinced.

“My parents are these like big destined-to-be soulmates. They are big in the Werewolf world and they are so disappointed in me. Whenever they talk about their kids I'm always mentioned last, an afterthought. I'm the oldest daughter yet no one seems to remember that. I have to have a soulmate so that I can have a real loving family.” Enid paused for a minute looking back at Wednesday. “I didn’t mean it like they don’t love me and whatever…”

“My parents aren’t soulmates. They love each other deeply. They have a passion for love like nothing I've ever seen between soulmates. Soulmate marks mean nothing.”

“Wednesday I know you would say that with the family you came from, but it's not true for the rest of us. We aren’t all that lucky. I mean, you probably don’t even have a mark so of course you think like that.”

“I do.” Wednesday looked at Enid. Wednesday knew she’d never told anyone about this, not anyone outside her family.

“You do what?”

“Have a mark.” Enid looked dumbfounded at her. “I have two in fact.” Enid’s jaw dropped and she sat up.

“You are so lying.” Enid went to throw a pillow at Wednesday.

“Put that down before I throw you out the window.” Enid put the pillow down.

“No Wednesday, I'm serious, there is no way. Divina is like the only one and that's ‘cause she has a twin. Isn’t that like the only time it is ever supposed to happen? You aren’t a twin right?”

“I don’t care enough to look into how rare it is. No, I am not a twin. I have two marks and I don’t care about them, not the others attached to them either.”

“Wow.” Enid stopped rubbing her hands across the pillow. “Can I see them?” She said in a meek voice.

“No. Now, this sharing secrets and feeling shit is over. Get back on your own side and never bring this up again. I let you speak your thoughts on soulmates, I related to and comforted. I'm done.”

“You think friendship and talking is a checklist you gotta follow?”

“Yes.” Wednesday glared at Enid then over at Enid’s side of the room signaling for her to leave.

“Alright alright.” Enid got up and started over to her side. Wednesday grabbed her wrist. Tightly.

“I swear Sinclair if you tell a soul, living or dead, I will skin you alive and roast your body for an Addams dinner.” The grip Wednesday had got tighter. “If anyone asks you, you do not know.”

Wednesday let go.

“Got it.” Enid was now on her own side again. “I would have agreed without the bruising though.” She rubbed her wrist lightly.

But Wednesday was already back to herself. True to her word. The moment gone. Now though, Enid was more intrigued with her roommate than ever. Well, this was still an improvement for Wednesday. Much success in our best roomie friendship! Enid thought to herself as she got ready for bed.

Chapter Text

Yoko had her papers spread out all over her desk. Enid watched as she quietly did her work. “No yeah Yoko I really tried and she was not going to budge and then I got a little scared for my safety. Look.” Enid held up a barely red wrist. It didn't even hurt but Enid felt the need to really sell it.

“Maybe it's just in a weird spot and she doesn’t want people knowing about it?” Yoko suggested.

“Yeah maybe.” Enid rubbed her hands across Yoko’s bedding.

“I don’t get why you get so stressed about your soulmate mark but relentlessly talk about it.”

“Because. I will get it one day. That's when I can stop stressing about life.”

“Enid.” Yoko stopped her work to look up at Enid. “A soulmate won’t fix your problems nor will it stop your family from being complete ass hats.” The room was quiet after Yoko's comment. Enid didn’t really know how to respond. More like she didn’t want to reply.

“But you and Divina… like come on” Enid tried.

“Yes she is my soulmate and I love her but that doesn’t make my life complete and stress-free.” She gestured to her large pile of homework. “And just because we are soulmates doesn’t mean we are problem free. Sometimes the label puts a lot of pressure on us to be a certain thing. It’s why she doesn’t sit with us every day. We have lives apart from each other.”

Yoko went back to her work. “Maybe you should adopt an Addams lifestyle with your mark over there. I mean ya, just imagine she doesn’t have a mark either? Then you two could date free of all that soulmate crap.” Yoko ducked as a pillow flew by her head. “Hahaha listen I'm just saying if she acts anything like her parents, that’s a love charmer right there.”

“Come on, you and I both know she’s nothing like her parents. Also, I don’t care. Even if she didn’t have one, that’s not how I wanna date. I want, need a soulmate. I want someone to be destined to be mine and vice versa. I need it Yoko. I'd much rather be all by myself than with somebody that's not my soulmate.”

“Damn girl. Makes me wish I was your soulmate.” Yoko laughed.

“I'm happy to let Divina know that,” Enid smirked.

“Oh shut up.”

Divina showed up later to surprise Yoko and Enid in fact did tell Divina which then got her kicked out of Yoko's dorm. So worth it.

She made her way back to her own dorm as she had plenty of her own homework.

It had been a week since Enid learned about Wednesday's double trouble marks(as Enid nicknamed them). Yet they both still acted the same, as if nothing big was revealed. So the last thing she expected was Wednesday sitting in the middle of their dorm room with a large number of history books stacked all around the room.

“Oh good Sinclair, grab a book and get to work. Mmh grab one from that pile. No no other one.” Wednesday had barely glanced at her before telling her what to do. Enid finally guessed the right pile? Book? Who knows.

She scooted some other books away so she could sit in the center with Wednesday. She brushed off the dusty cover so she could read the title. “Werewolves, and the encyclopedia of soulmates” Wtf. Enid looked over at what Wednesday was reading. She stole the book right from her hands and read the title “History of soulmate marks”.

“Excuse me.” Wednesday snatched the book back. “Read.”

“Wednesday what is all this?” Enid asked.

“I couldn’t get over the fact that you said something about all Werewolves having soulmates and I wanted to know if you were just an outlier or if you are just a late bloomer. That book over there,” She pointed to the first pile, “tells me Werewolves have been known to first transform all the way up to age 20 so really you've got some time. That book.” Wednesday pointed at a different pile, to a book that had a velvet cover. “That one says there has never been a Werewolf without a soulmate mark, except when on purpose.” She paused. “One guy lost his arm and technically no longer had one.” Enid could swear Wednesday looked like she was almost smiling.

“So you felt the need to research for me. Awww Wen, that's so sweet.” Enid smiled.

“Don’t call me that. No, I didn’t do it for you, I did it because it doesn’t make sense. I wanted to understand.”

“Uh huh” Was all Enid replied with. Liar, I know you just wanted to do something nice. “So what can you tell me about me then?”

“Well if you could read you would find some things out as well…However, from what I’ve gathered even though you are going to transform later there is nothing abnormal or wrong, so to speak, that comes from it. Every case of later transformation has turned out the same and the after effect is just the same. Then of course that's when you will get your mark. There has not been a single case in over 2 thousand years that a Werewolf doesn’t have a mark and in turn a mate. So all that worry you do, you can tone that down.”

“Wow, Wednesday…That’s, I mean. Wow,” was all Enid could muster. She wasn’t necessarily free of her worries and doubts, she could always be the first, but she was shocked Wednesday learned all this about her. For her. She quickly shoved Yoko's stupid words out of her head. Enid picked up a different book ‘Soulmate Mark Rarities’. “Did you find anything on your marks?”

“No, it would be in that one. So read up.” Wednesday stood up and left the ring of books in favor of her typewriter.

“What are you doing?”

“I researched you, you research me.”

Enid rolled her eyes. “You and your friendship transactions.” She cracked open the book and fell into the pages with the sound of a typewriter humming in the background.

Enid found out some key points about Wednesday’s marks. Two marks are rare, even rarer when they don't connect back to a family member. Enid did check and Wednesday let up that to her knowledge neither mark was connected to a family member. Okay, so that was totally rare.

“Whoa, Wednesday! Are you like related to all Addams?”

“Yes.”

“Well, you have an ancestor Goody Addams? I guess she had three! One to her child and two to one person! That's crazy!”

“Mm so maybe it's genetic. Interesting.” The typing sound continued.

“Did you know one couple had matching dicks on their forehead?” Enid laughed.

Wednesday just grunted at Enid. She continued her typing not wanting to give Enid a response.

The night continued along with Enid spewing facts about double soulmates and other random things she learned from the books. Slowly her voice became far and few till all you could hear was the hums of Wednesday’s typewriter.

Enid woke up the next morning with a stiff back but somehow made it back to her bed in the night. She swore she fell asleep on a pile of books. She looked around the room. The large piles of books were nowhere to be found. She was also unable to find her roommate. Enid squinted at the sun's rays blaring into the room. Hell, what time is it? She checked her phone. 10:35.

“Shit.” She slept all the way through the first period and was already late for the second. She glanced back at her phone on her side table. Next to it was a note. ‘Thanks for the help last night. Moved you because you snore on the floor apparently. We have a group project for second period I'll bring it back during lunch. Sleep.’

“Don’t need to tell me twice.” Enid yawned and decided she was going to take the day off.

Chapter Text

The next day Enid and Wednesday met up at the garden for their project. Enid had brought down all of her poster-making supplies.

“Ms. Thornhill said that we each pick a flower or plant and then compare and contrast.” Enid drew a line down the center of the poster. “Enid we need three sections. One for my flower-

“You’re picking a flower?” Enid questioned. She expected Wednesday to pick a fly trap or poison Ivy or something along those lines.

“One section for similarities and then a section for yours.” Wednesday interjected. She also stole the poster back, erasing Enid’s previous line in favor of two lines, making thirds. She leaned the poster against a bench.

“I already have my plant in mind, get yours.” With that Wednesday was gone.

15 minutes later Enid came back with a large handful of pink flowers she found. She didn’t actually know the name of the plant but she was just going to google it once she made it back to the poster. She found Wednesday already sitting on the bench waiting with a dark rose in her hand.

“Why did you kill the whole family?” Wednesday questioned. Enid looked down at her flowers, She did kind of mangle them and the bottom were cut a little questionably. “You only needed one flower, Enid.”

“Whoops” Enid shrugged her shoulders. “At least I've got extras now! I don’t know the name though, so you can start your side while I look it up.”

“They are called honeysuckles. Now you need to know how it reproduces, the type of growth, its adaption, pollinators, and where it is native. As well as fun facts.” Wednesday turned back and started writing on her side of the poster. The phrase ‘fun facts’ made Enid audibly laugh. “I'm not doing this by myself Enid, get to work.”

Both girls finished their own sides and Wednesday started the similarities column.

“Why’d you pick a rose? Aren’t they meant for love and shit? I would think you’d hate that.”

“It's a black rose, there is a difference. You must not know me well. I have explained this to you before. I don’t hate love, I am an Addams. I just do not feel it is necessary to lose your whole self in something. You just assume that darkness and death can’t live with love and joy.”

“Damn Addams, you know what they say about assuming…” Wednesday did not laugh.

“I'm going to color my side black, do you want your side pink? We can then just have the middle white.”

“Oh yes, please! I'll add glitter!” Enid grabbed her glitter glue.

Enid and Wednesday made their way through the dead quad with their poster. “Hey, Wens...Wednesday” Enid corrected herself, she wanted Wednesday to agree. “Can we do a movie marathon when we get back? Because like we finished our project and it's a Friday!”

“Yoko’s with Divina tonight?”

“Yes… but I swear I also did want to watch something with you.”

Wednesday thought about it. They made it all the way back to their dorm. She put the poster on her desk. “Fine but I get to choose the movie and we are watching it in my bed. I can’t stand yours.” Enid jumped for joy running and grabbing her computer.

“Wednesday please you know this isn’t what I meant when I said I wanted to have a movie marathon with you! I meant like animations, comedies, or like a cute romance.” Enid just wanted a fun movie night; she did not want to be traumatized by Wednesday's collection of horror movies. Wednesday had picked ‘Smile’ which to Enid sounded good but she could tell it was going to be awful.

“You wanted to watch a movie and I got to pick, that was the deal.” Wednesday took the laptop from Enid's hands and pulled the covers over both of them. “Just bite the blanket if you get scared or I guess squeeze my arm.” Wednesday didn’t wait for Enid to respond. She started the movie.

Halfway through the movie, Wednesday was really enjoying herself. This was her type of film, very mind fucky. Enid on the other hand was losing her shit. She was doing it quietly but Wednesday could sense it. She paused the movie.

“Sit up.”

“What, why?” Enid asked even though she was already leaning forward. Wednesday extended her arm over the pillow Enid was using.

“Lay back down.” Enid was speechless as she felt Wednesday's arm under her and it wrapped around her own shoulder pulling them closer together. “You are fine, just watch the movie now please, and stop acting like a kicked puppy.” Wednesday started the movie back up.

Enid was just in pure shock. Sure she had gotten a high five, and occasional arm bumps or hand grazes but Wednesday Addams never voluntarily reached out to her first. Enid was not going to complain; she adored cuddling with people. It was half the Werewolf part and half because it was her love language.

After ten minutes Enid relaxed and rested her head down on Wednesday's shoulder. She went back to watching the movie, which in her opinion was a big mistake. The therapist slowly grew a wicked smile and started after the main character. Enid started shaking slightly, her heart rate picking up.

Wednesday felt she was hooked up to Enid’s heart monitor. It was a booming sound that was increasing as the movie went on. Wednesday didn’t really know what else to do to help Enid but stop the movie. She wasn’t going to do that. She thought about her brother Pugsley and what she did to help him through thunderstorms.

Wednesday slowly but tightly pulled Enid ever so closer. Enid's head was now on Wednesday's chest. She began to slowly rub her knuckles up and down Enid's arm to try and calm her down. It seemed to work well enough.

“Can you still see?” Wednesday asked. Enid just replied with a hum.

A man or whatever that thing was, was on fire and Enid could not watch. She buried her head into Wednesday's chest, just trying to ground herself with the beat of Wednesday's heart. Wednesday raised her hand, slowly running it through Enid's hair. “Wens, is it over?”

“Yes, you are fine.” Wednesday paused for a moment. “Don’t call me that.” Wednesday turned Enid’s head back towards the screen and then pulled her own hand away from Enid.

The movie finished and Enid just knew she was gonna have nightmares, there was no way she was sleeping tonight.

“Want to watch another?”

“Really?”

“Ya, I’m not going to be able to sleep anyways now. Just don’t let go of me or I will die.”

“You won’t die, Enid.” Despite her words, Wednesday never moved and just started another movie- ‘The Autopsy of Jane Doe’.

Enid was going to be fine as long as she stayed near the warm buzz that came from Wednesday's chest.

Notes:

Both these movies are truly mind fucky 100% had a nightmare after watching both.

I adore the idea that Wednesday is a big family girl and will use the same soothing technic that she start for Pugsley on Enid too. This girl is a reduce-reuse-recycle kinda girl when it comes to relationships.

Chapter 5: Letter

Summary:

*Trigger warning* Family issues, light blood, and panic attack ish

Notes:

Welp heyo guys! sorry for dieing for a second. Chapter 4 sent me because I hated it and got writer's block the second I posted it. I was going to rewrite it and change shit but oh well ill work with it. This chapter took a slightly more angsty family issues turn than I expected, but I kinda dig it. Let the story write itself you know.

I think I'm gonna aim for weekly updates? I really love the end of the story so just making sure I keep the middle ad don't skip ahead is the hardest part!

Chapter Text

Enid once again found herself awake in a place she hadn’t fallen asleep in. She blinked the sleep out of her eyes and rubbed her face. She was back in her own bed but could have sworn she fell asleep in Wednesday's bed. Enid glanced over at Wednesday's bed. The other girl was still fast asleep, peacefully. Enid was surprised as she had never woken up before Wednesday.

Enid couldn’t help but take this moment by storm and stare at Wednesday, trying to take everything in. The way her braids were puffier and looser due to sleep. How calm her face looked when she was asleep. The way the morning light danced across her face. Stop it. Enid shook her head. No, only my soulmate. I can't do that to them. I need to find them. Enid went to take one last glance at Wednesday before starting her day and turned to a very awake and very aware Wednesday.

“This is why I never let you wake up before me. You look like a creeper.” Wednesday got up to get ready for her day. She was somehow already dressed for the day. Before Enid could retort, Wednesday continued “Last night never happened and will never happen again.”

Wednesday left abruptly for the day. Enid flopped onto her bed exasperated. This ultimate power friendship with Wednesday was getting harder and more complicated than any of Enid's other friendships.

Wait. Where the fuck is she going? It's Saturday!

The rest of the year went on fairly normally. Nothing remarkable came, a few students found their soulmates, Wednesday threatened some people, and the lunch table had many laughs. The air quickly became crisp and warm. Summer break and the end of the school year was right around the corner.

One week before school was to end Enid got a letter from her mother, one week before she would have to face her family again. She thought she was going to live out the last week peacefully. Guess not.

She waited till Wednesday had left for a nightly walk? Enid wasn’t really sure. Enid was already dressed for bed in a pink and blue matching top and bottom set.

“Dear beloved daughter,

The pride you carry with the Sinclair name should be loud and proud. However, that can’t be true without a transformation and mate. It hurts us deeply that our own precious daughter is incomplete and living a life of misery. We would be terrible parents if we did not do everything in our power to give you every opportunity to thrive. In good faith, we will be sending you to a Werewolf camp at the end of the summer. We would have preferred to send you at the start but I would hate for you to be seen with so many younger girls, so we choose to send you to the late bloomers retreat. Splendid. It would however be in your best interest to transform on your own, before your birthday. Understandably you clearly aren’t capable. Help is obviously needed.

Your brothers and Winny will be picking you up. See you soon

Love,
Mom and Dad.”

Enid cried a single tear by the end of the letter. The deep ache in her chest welled up. The embarrassment and shame bubbled inside her. Soon, as she sat on her bed, this channeled into rage. Her claws slid out, stabbing the paper. She ripped it in half, crumbling a half in each hand and squeezing her hands closed. The only thing keeping her from crying more was the pounding pain of her claws digging into her hands. Enid was trapped in this rage for who knows how long, the only thing breaking it was the wet feeling on her PJ shorts. She looked down at her blood-stained shorts. “Fuck”

Enid spent the next hour washing and scrubbing her shorts in the bathroom sink. She was praying to finish cleaning them before Wednesday came back. Finally, Enid got most of the blood out and patched up the palms of her hands. It wasn’t actually a lot of blood just a couple of drops or so before Enid had put her claws back in. She was going to be fine. Enid noted she hadn’t heard Wednesday come back so she at least won in that department. She was just going to go to bed and worry about it all tomorrow. She walked out of the bathroom feeling better with a new pair of purple PJs on.

“Enid…” Wednesday stood by Enid's bed. Her hands held up shredded pieces of paper covered in blood.

“Oh um, hey Wednesday. Sorry about that. Don't worry about it. I didn’t get any on your stuff.” Enid went to collect the papers out of Wednesday's hands. Wednesday grabbed her hands examining the badges.

“You know I love blood. It's my favorite form of color. Although it does not look quite as good on you.” Enid tried to smile. “What happened?”

Enid did not want to deal with this. She took a deep breath. “Bad letter from my parents. I was upset. Overreacted. I’m going to bed now.” Enid shoved the pieces into her bedside drawer.

Wednesday stayed unmoving as Enid climbed into her own bed. “Don’t worry Addams. You don't need to do your 5-step plan for friends.”

“I can kill them for you?” Wednesday tried.

“No, best not Wens.” No one corrected the nickname.

The silence dragged on long enough that Enid figured Wednesday had gone to her own bed.

“Want me to hold you?” another pause.

“Wednesday you hate physical touch.”

“You like it.” Enid turned to face Wednesday. “Whatever they said is probably not true. The people I met during parents weekend don’t know you. Besides I can’t sleep if you will be crying all night. This room is only big enough for one depressed moping girl.” That got a smile out of Enid.

“Fine”

“Don’t sound so disappointed. This is your thing.” Wednesday climbed under the covers taking Enid into her arms for the second time in their friendship. Enid used the warm buzz of Wednesday's heart to lull her to sleep.

Neither ever mentioned the letter again. Wednesday didn’t even threaten her the next morning. Enid was going to make it her mission to forget all about camp until the very last second.

“This is your last chance to air out your grievances. I can’t listen to soulmate drama over the summer and you shouldn’t be worrying about it either.” Yoko laid on the courtyard grass. Enid laid parallel to Yoko. It was dusk and the girls were just starting to be able to point out the stars.

“I don’t know. Maybe I’ll work on getting over myself this summer. Is it really so bad that I want it so much though?”

“No, it's actually quite beautiful and I love seeing you get so excited. I just worry about you. You know?” Yoko turned her head to look at Enid. Enid met her eyes.

“I know. I just, I’m not sure. It just feels like without it… I’m missing something, a part of me isn’t whole. Like maybe without it I'm unlovable… I guess I don’t know.” Enid's voice trailed off, turning away.

Yoko turned Enid’s head back so she could look at her. “I love you and we don't have soulmate marks.” Enid smiled at Yoko.

“Ya… I love you too.” Enid glanced up at the sky trying to keep her emotions in check. “ I'm gonna miss you. Especially when I make it back to my mother.” Yoko and Enid both shuddered and then erupted into laughter.

After a moment Yoko grabs Enid's hand holding it gently. “I am going to miss you too. I know I’m going to be pretty unreachable but give me a call anyways or text Divina and I'll be there the moment you need me.” Enid pushed her body so she was that much closer, leaning her head against Yoko.

“You still planning on coming up for my birthday too?”

“Of course,”

The two girls stayed out under the night's blanket until the sun began to rise and the rest of the school got ready for move-out day.

Notes:

I love the scene with Yoko and Enid on their last night together before summer. Enid is learning more about love and maybe there is more to life than "the one true love" type shit she has been fed her whole life <3

-------
SPOILERS FOR FUTURE ANGST
There will be more Enid family drama but I think this will be the only breakdown(that happens like this) she will have in case that affects people.

Thanks for reading!!

Chapter 6: A Tug On Her Heart

Summary:

PLOT PLOT PLOT

Notes:

Enjoy ;)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Enid had spent most of the summer hanging out with Winny, her younger sister. With Yoko doing her vampire thing and Wednesday unreachable, Enid really had only one other person she would want to spend the summer with. Her brothers were fine at best, her mother and father were dreadful on a good day, and her extended family made both groups even worse. They always asked questions about what she was doing with her life, her mark, and of course her transformation. The question always sent her parents into a passive-aggressive rage. They hated feeling like an inferior family. Most family gatherings would end up with Enid off in the woods or up in the trees.

So, Winny it was. She really was great. Enid was nearly 7 years older than her but they had a lot in common and a lot of family pressure they were able to work through together. Winny transformed at just 6 years old. The youngest anyone had seen in a while. She was the family prodigy. This put a lot of pressure on her to become a great and powerful wolf. As well as the added pressure of already having a mark at 6 as a Werewolf, caused her a lot of turmoil. She still hadn’t found her mate but to be so young she probably wouldn’t for a while until they turn as well. But the emotional grievances that come with a Werewolf soulmate mark is a lot for someone so young to deal with. Secretly Winny had always admired Enid and wished she didn’t have a mark either.

Although Winny hadn’t really come to terms with the true family dynamic the Sinclairs had, she found herself defending Enid a lot.

It was about 1 week before Enid's birthday. Which also meant the end of summer was soon, that meant camp was soon. Enid gave herself a shake and kept walking through the woods. She already sat through two full moons and nothing. Wednesday did give her a long list of books for her to read through if she was bored. So she ended up reading many books on Werewolves and soulmates, a couple on platonic love (Yoko added her recommendation as well), a few WLW books (Divina), and one on personal growth (Enid picked this herself). She talked through a lot of the books with her sister. In fact, she really only spent the summer reading or talking to Winny. The girls would spend hours talking about soulmates. Both gushing over possibilities and supporting the overwhelming feeling of having one or the lack of one.

“Trust me, you aren’t missing much.” Both sisters hung upside down on a branch from the big maple tree in their backyard. A great uncle had made a comment about both girls that had sent a shiver down their backs. They took to the woods the second the attention turned elsewhere.

“Winny you haven’t even found yours, you can’t say that.” Enid chuckled slightly at her sister.

“Yeah but it’s not like I'm a different person. I won’t let any dumb boy change me or my life.” Winny once told Enid she could already feel what her soulmate was like, not what he looked like but every day the picture in her mind became a little clearer, so she is sure it was a boy.

“Ya, I guess you wouldn’t be anybody but my little Winny.” Enid started swinging her body and rocking the branch. Winny started screaming.

“AHHHHH Een STOP.” Winny started flailing her arms and legs from the shaking. “Enid I swear to all the moons if you don't-” and with one more good shake Winny went flying off the branch. “I HATE YOU!” Enid jumped down, falling to the ground with laughter.

“You did that to yourself girl hahaha.” Winny got up with her claws out and tackled Enid. Her claws were retracted before she even touched Enid.

Enid was alone on this particular walk, however. She kicked a rock well making her way through the trails. She never got to run with family on these trails. She was always alone. She listened to birds sing and the wind rustling the trees. She whistled back at the birds, looking up to the sky. Many birds mated for life, Enid noted to herself. How can they be so sure it’s the right choice without a mark to tell them for sure? Aren't they worried it’s gonna end poorly? Enid thought.

Enid followed the whole trail all the way through the woods and back towards the house. For once she left the woods with a smile and no tears.

She got to a house that was bustling with activity. “Oh dear, would you please set the table with your sister?” Enid's father asked the moment she walked in the room. Her four (very capable) brothers sat around the TV watching a football game. She looked over to find Winny trying to carry all 8 plates by herself to the table.

“Oop, got those for you.” Enid came sneaking over and snatched the plates from her sister, holding them high above the younger's head.

“Een, give those back! I had it!”

“We’ll I’ve got it now, go grab the cutlery,” Winny stuck her tongue out. Enid stuck hers out right back. “One of you grab cups, please.” The boys all quickly glanced away. “Now” Enid sneered. Her youngest brother shot up and ran to the cupboards. Her parents never made the boys help, but she sure as hell did.

Soon everyone was sitting at the table. Esther on one end, Murray on the opposite. Winny, Enid and her youngest brother all sat on one side, well the three older boys sat on the other side. They had roast turkey and green beans. The table conversation started normally with daily updates and light small talk.

“What are we doing for Enid’s birthday?” Mikey, the youngest, asked. A chill hit the table.

“Well, that's actually a good conversation to have. Enid, I was thinking we could do your party Friday? You can have your girls sleepover and then you'll leave for camp Sunday. The dates shifted so we must have your birthday earlier.” Her mother said in the sweetest tone. The conversation went on as Luke, second youngest boy, asked what the camp was. Enid didn’t really hear any of it. The only thing on her mind was the fact that she had so much less time than she thought. She thought she was leaving next Wednesday. 7 days. She thought she had more time. Now she has 3 days. It didn’t even seem real. None of it.

“Wait, she's leaving us? Again?” Winny’s words pierced her heart back to the conversation.

“Yes, just for a fun little wolf camp for older girls. It will help her find her soulmate. She isn’t right without one. Then after that she’ll be back at Nevermore.” Ester smiled brightly. Winny just made a small noise that could have been a whimper. “Sinclairs all must have strong soulmates and strong connections to their marks. All of you better.” She glared at all her children quickly.

Enid swallowed the well in her throat. She needed to be strong for Winny’s sake. “Who can I invite Friday night? I gotta ask everyone tonight.” Enid knew no matter how sweetly her mother was talking, she told Enid this news about both camp and inviting people late on purpose. This increased the chance her friends wouldn’t be able to make it all the way over to her house.

“Yes of course, anyone you’d like, Enid. Just try to keep a small group. Perhaps a real Werewolf friend? Not just Sirens and Vampires.”

“Thanks mom.” The conversation died quickly, Winny attempted to start it back up but even the boys could tell by the sickly sweet tone of their mother, there was no messing with this.

Once Winny and Enid had cleaned up the dining table, Enid booked it to her room to text the group chat.

Bat Shit Baddies

Pup: HAHAHAHAHA

Sharp Tooth: Oh no that's never good

Big fish: uhhh you alright there Enid?

Pup: HAHAHAHAH YA SO MY MOTHER IS AT IT AGAIN

Draw +2: When is she not?

Jax: What did she do now

Pup: Lets just say she moved the date of my birthday party to this Friday and gave me no time and then ANDTHEN she is sending me to like fucking wolf conversion therapy

Sharp Tooth: I'M SORRY WTFF

Draw +2: Girl we will so fucking be there.

Big Fish: Holy shit your mother is fucked

Jax: aw men Enid i'm so sorry dude i'll do my best to make it

Enid watched the group chat continue to fill with love and shouts of support. She felt a tug on her heart at the thought of a certain idea. Before she could do anything she heard a knock on her door.

“Yes?”

“It’s Winny… um can we watch a movie?” poor girl.

“Yes, just give me two minutes!”

“Okie!” Winny ran off.

Enid sent a text to someone she hadn’t said a word to all summer. Thing had given her this number but Enid didn’t even believe it would work so she never bothered.

Sinclair: This is your number right? It's Enid

Addams: Yes, Sinclair.
- Wednesday Addams

Sinclair: Perfect! Wanna come to my birthday party this Friday? It's last minute but you know my mother

Addams:Yes, Sinclair.
- Wednesday Addams

Sinclair: Changed Sinclair to pup

Pup: Do you have my address?

Addams: Changed pup to Sinclair

Addams: Have you been getting my letters?
- Wednesday Addams

Sinclair: Changed Sinclair to pup

Pup: No…

Addams: Changed pup to Pain in the ass

Addams: Then I do not have your correct address.
- Wednesday Addams

Pain in the ass: Hell stop changing my name

Enid started to type her address as Winny walked in. Crying.

“Oh honey come here.” Enid held her sister, she quickly sent her address and then promptly put her phone away.

“Why do you have to leave?”

“I'll be back and you don’t need to worry about that right now. Want me to braid your hair in your favorite style?” Winny just nodded her head.

Enid began braiding Winny's hair in two very characteristically sleek braids.

Chapter Text

Enid had been awake for hours. Listening to the rise and fall of her chest. She felt the sun start to warm her room and it dawned on her she was really going to have to face the day. Sure she was excited for her birthday party but the second it was over, she was to be whisked away to camp. She was also terrified to see how her friends and family would interact. They had only ever met on Nevermore territory, not the Sinclair house itself. She listened as the house began to fill with sounds of life. She knew each walking pattern by heart, whether this was a talent to be proud of she wasn’t really sure. She heard her father, then her mother, walk downstairs. Then the soft patter of a little someone.

“Een” Winny whispered into the keyhole. “Wake up!” She whisper-squeaked.

“I'm awake, Win.” Enid braced herself as the door slammed open and her sister tumbled on top of her screaming and jumping.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYY SEVENTEEN SEVENTEEN WHOAAAAA” Enid laughed

“Winny, my birthday hasn’t actually happened yet. I'm still just sixteen.” Enid tried to steady her sister.

“Yessss butttt” Winny loved to drag out her words when she was excited. “I won’t see you on your real birthdayyyy! So pretend!” She jumped on the edge of Enid's bed lifting up the other end slightly.

“Geez girl” Enid shoved her off the bed. “Give me 5 and I'll be down. Did you make me birthday pancakes?” Enid gave Winny a joking side-eye.

“Yes sir!” Winny squealed some more running out of the room and slamming the door. Very loudly.

Enid reluctantly got out of bed. She put on a bright white and pink flower-patterned sundress. She stood in front of her mirror. Her hair had lost all of the fun colors she had back at Nevermore. Her mother never took a liking to it, especially once Winny asked for some. Oh yeah, never again was she to set foot in this house with dyed hair. Enid rolled her eyes at the thought. She wished she had time to dye it before she left.

Enid finally made her way downstairs. The one family tradition the Sinclair family had that Enid liked was birthday pancakes. Plus someone else did all the work. The table was set with nice plates and candles lit. She looked at her mother as she flipped another pancake.

“Good morning Mom.” Enid yawned slightly.

“Oh! Good morning dear. I was just about to send for you! Are you excited for today? Such a pleasant way to end the summer.” Her mother smiled so brightly. Enid chose at that very moment to forget everything and have a nice family breakfast. She will be mad at her mother tomorrow. She needed a good morning before she saw her friends again.

That is the very thing that happened. It was the nicest morning Enid had had all summer. The breakfast was delicious, her mother made no unneeded comments, the boys helped put up decorations, and she did Winny’s hair for the day. Enid tried to persuade Winny out of the classic double braid Enid had started doing for her. Enid did not need her sister to match with Wednesday, even more so because Enid didn’t even mean to start doing them until Winny fell in love with the style. Winny would not budge.

“Soooooo who do I get to meet today!? Oh and can I pretty please come swim with you guys!?”

“Yes, you can come as long as you behave.” Enid knew she always did. “It's gonna be Bianca, Yoko, Divina.” The boys couldn’t make it, which was probably for the best with her mother.” Oh and Wednesday. “

“WEDNESDAY YAYYYYY!!” Winny practically howled and ran around the couch. Oh god what have I created? Enid may have done a little bit of boasting about her super cool roommate and talked about Wednesday to Winny anytime she missed her.

About an hour later Enid's friends started to show up. First Yoko and Divina, then Bianca. The three sat on the porch catching up from the summer. Winny had left them alone for a little. The four girls sat on two porch swings facing the long driveway. Enid wanted to give a full house tour but needed to wait for Wednesday who was unusually running behind. Enid got her phone ready to text her.

“Finally Addams is here,” Bianca said. Enid looked up. There she was. Classic Wednesday. Two tight sleek braids. A long black dress and black shoes. She walked methodically down the driveway. She was just far enough that Enid felt it would have been awkward to yell something so she waited. More like she stared. Enid didn’t realize how much she had missed her roommate until now. The simple conversation, easy banter, and curt language she had grown so keen to. She was getting it back today. Wednesday's braids lightly bounced as she walked on the uneven ground. It made her braids just slightly looser. Enid knew no doubt the slight frizz that occurred from it was driving Wednesday crazy, even though she looked unbothered. As she got closer Enid began to take her in even more. She had gravestone earrings with an equally cryptic matching necklace.

Enid felt a slight elbow. “Enid you’re staring…bad.” Enid paled and turned to Yoko.

“Fuck”

“Wipe that look off your face and stand up.” Yoko said through gritted teeth as she too stood upright as Wednesday reached the porch.

“Wednesday! Hey, glad you could make it.” Enid stood up, her face warm as she tried to forget what just happened.

“Hello Enid, apologies for the late arrival. I went and tracked down those letters you weren’t getting.”

“Oh…”

“Thing is an awful spy so he grabbed me the wrong original address. Your neighbors had them piling up in their mailbox.”

“Oh,” Enid needed something more intelligent to say but really nothing was coming out.

“The yellow one?” Enid said just as Yoko chimed in trying to help “Do we get to read them?”

Wednesday turned to Yoko “No, they are no longer important.” Wednesday turned back to Enid. “ Yes.”

Enid felt her heart skip in a way it never had feeling Wednesday gaze back at her. Well what’d you do with the letters? Enid didn’t dare ask that though. “Oh ya, that house is abandoned now.”

“Lovely” an awkward silence crept up.

“Anyways! Who wants a tour? Let's start outside before we must indulge my family.”

“Oh, I can’t wait to finally meet Winny! She’s my favorite Sinclair!” Yoko joked as the group started towards the woods.

“Don’t tell her that, it’ll go straight to her head.”

“Who is Winny?” Divina asked.

“Oh, that's my younger sister! You guys will get to meet all my siblings. Fair warning though.” Enid turned to Wednesday. “She is slightly obsessed with you so try not to rub too much of your uh you-ness onto my bubbly sister.”

“No promises, I love corrupting the youth.”

Notes:

Again this was just the best place to leave it so I could update without waiting for to finish the whole thing.

Also, I loved everyone's theories and thoughts about the letters Wednesday was sending!! Sorry to disappoint hahaha I just wanted to make a fun moment where Wednesday actually went out of her way to try and get Enid's address without having to outright ask for it but it backfires on her. She also chose never to visit Enid because she assumed she was ignoring her and the letters. I like myself some subtle moments of affection.

Anyways please continue with theories or guesses!! so much fun to see different interpretations

Chapter 8: Making a Splash

Summary:

Enid makes a bold decision 12/5/2024
--------
What a fun party at the Sinclair's house.

Notes:

Hi folks... so this might be confusing but chapters 9, 10, 11 are being deleted and this chapter the last third ish was rewritten. I think one of many reason I started having trouble writing (besides time issues) was I didn't like where I took the story, so here we are somewhere better. I do want to point out that the rewritten bit is written in a slightly different style which is just a given with around a 2 year gap. I really love this story and have great plans for it. I also am hoping to go back and make small grammar/sentence structure changes but it wont be large plot points like this. I hope you all like the chapter :) I am in the thick of finals though so things will be slow going.

any other chapters posted after 12/6/2024 are current and up to date

Happy winter everyone I hope everyone has a great night - 12/5/2024

Chapter Text

“So these are the family's birch woods, it's about 10 acres.” Enid started as they walked the outskirts of the woods on the way to the pond and the rest of the backyard.

“Whoa, it's a Werewolf thing, right? You guys need all that space to run and stuff?” Bianca asked.

“Ya kind of. The Sinclair's also just have old money so my father inherited all the land. But ya they get used by Werewolves. I just walk through them during the day though.”

“How many comments have you gotten?” Yoko tried nicely.

“About not turning? Too many ha. Normally it’s just extended family though, obviously, my parents know I haven’t.” Enid started swaying her arms. “Anyways. Let me give a run down and heads up about what we will have to deal with once we get inside. Easiest, Winny, she is ten. Sweetest angel on the planet, she will happily show off any skill she thinks you might find impressive so beware. Next, the two younger boys Mikey and Luke. Mikey is the baby. He is eight and that explains enough. Luke is twelve, so very much middle-school energy. Jason is fifteen he is way too much like my father so either super helpful or a bane of hell.”

Divina stopped Enid. “Wait, I thought you were like the youngest? Or at least middle child energy.” Yoko started laughing.

“Or you could just call her neglected too. Damn, Div.” Bianca added, also laughing.

“There are no faults in being an eldest daughter.” Wednesday chimed in very solemnly. Shutting down that conversation.

“Haha guys, so funny. No, I am in fact the oldest daughter and second oldest child.” Enid picked up a stick and started hitting it along the trees. “Now like I was saying. Last is Parker, who is 19. He might be the real problem of the day. He takes on the role of my mother extremely well. He will 100 percent make a very unneeded comment so please try not to take offense. Any questions?”

“What about your parents?” Divina asked.

“Got any pets?” Bianca asked.

“My parents… well they are Sinclair so they can be a bit proper and snobby. I guess. I'm not sure how to describe them. Oh and no Bianca. Sadly we don’t have any pets! I begged my mom for a cat. Parker shut that down real quick.”

The group continued the walk until the pond and the house were back in view. Enid could see her whole family outside in the backyard.

“Okay we are going to go through the front. Everyone is already outside so to push this further in the future, we are doing the house tour now.” She clapped her hands together excitedly.

Enid’s house tour only lasted so long before Esther came looking for them.

“Enid lunch. Boys help.” Esther called out behind her. “Oh hello everyone.” Esther came in through the back door just as the group came up from the basement. “Like the property?” Esther was met with yes ma’ams and thank yous, much to her delight. “Well Enid introduce me! Are any of you Werewolves?” Esther grinned ear to ear.

“No mom. This is Yoko, Divina, Bianca, and Wednesday.” Enid gestured to each of her friends.

“Yes, well then. Lovely to meet you all. Please out that door, you'll meet my husband and the boys.” Esther pointed to the back door. Everyone filed out the back. Enid was stopped by her mother right before she made it out the door. The day was just going too well. “Enid really. Not one Werewolf? And an Addams for fucks sake. Let’s not even mention both the Sirens and a Vampire? Everyone better be on their best behavior. I don’t want any funny business.”

“Yes, of course, mom.” Enid didn’t even want to try and defend her friends. She knew it was like talking to a wall, so she just silently followed her mother out the door. Her friends were all greeting her father and sitting down at the patio table.

Enid could tell her mother had not dropped her dislike for her friends. She was glaring at them. It probably wasn’t apparent to her friends but Enid knew her mothers looks. Enid was just waiting for her to make a comment and ruin the day right here.

“So Wednesday,” Esther practically snaked out the words. Enid cringed inwardly. She felt Yoko grab her arm under the table. “Tell me about your family! I went to school with your mother, quite the scandal she pulled. Stealing a man from his real soulmate! Are you planning on following in her footsteps?” Enid knew the game her mother was playing. She just liked belittling others and getting under their skin.

Wednesday looked like she was about to start something when Yoko stood up abruptly from the table. “Please Mrs. Sinclair tell me all about your younger daughter! I've heard so much from Enid!” Thank the moons.

“Aw yes, The Sinclair prodigy and the black sheep!” Enid's mother laughs. The sound makes Enid's skin prickle. “What an odd pair those two.” Esther scans the yard for a second. Enid turns to see Winny riding on Jason's shoulder well Mickey is on top of Parkers. They are playing a game of chicken without the safety of water. “Winifred! Boys! Come meet the guest.” Enid's five siblings come running over.

Well, the rest of her friends start greeting the sibling Enid leans over slightly whispering to Wednesday. “I’m sorry about that but please don’t start anything.”

“Don’t let me catch her trying anything like that again. A soulmate won’t be the only thing she’ll be losing.” Wednesday whispers. “Is this The Winny?” Wednesday says louder standing up.

A shriek spiraled out of Winny. “OH, MY MOONS! Look! Look! Wednesday we have the same hair!” Winny pulled on her braids. Funny enough Winny did have jet black hair so in that regard they looked similar. Everything else about them was drastically different. From the cheeky smile Winny wore to the bright blue flowered dress she was the exact opposite. Enid would have guessed Wednesday liked Winny at least a little because she had yet to insult her and plus who didn’t like a little flattery. Well that was until Winny chose to be very Winny today. In Enid's defense she hadn’t thought the whole family was going to survive long enough around Wednesday to prepare Winny for the number one thing not to do.

Touch Wednesday.

Winny went in for the biggest bear hug of the century, worse than Enid herself. Enid's brothers paid no mind but all of Enid’s friends grew still like statues. Wednesday looked like a trapped in a straight jacket, face expressionless. Enid panicked, swooping in and snatching her sister away.

“Eniddddd.” She complained as she was hoisted up. “Wednesday wanna compare soulmate marks?! Mines so cool it's-” Enid put a hand over Winny's mouth, muffling her shriek.

“Here please go throw her in the pond.” Enid handed her sister to Parker. He threw her over his shoulder like a bag of flour and ran down the bank to the pond. Winny screamed bloody murder all the way down.

“Well,” Enid said, turning back to her friends, mortified. “Shall we eat?”

Thankfully enough Enid convinced her parents to let just her and her friends sit and eat together. The boys were happy to be down by the pond. Esther couldn’t stand “all the non-Werewolves” in the house so she left to do errands. Murray cooked lunch and then couldn’t be found.

Wednesday hadn’t said a word. Not one. Enid was starting to fear for her sister's life. Everyone was grabbing food except Wednesday who sat at the table expressionless.

“I like your sister.”

“Wait, what… really? I thought I was about to like fight to the death to keep you from killing her. I thought you'd hate kids.”

“On the contrary, for the right kid. They have yet to be trapped into the world's strict views and they have no care for other opinions. They are also easily influenced. I can get my brother to do just about anything I ask. I'm sure it is the same for your sister. Practically minions served on a silver platter.”

Enid just sat flabbergasted. She thought Winny was a goner. She thought Wednesday would have just upright left. Enid has seen Wednesday break bones over lesser crimes.

“I wouldn’t serve Winny up on a silver platter. Perhaps gold?” Yoko smirked.

“Wednesday I look at you the wrong way once and you threaten to chop me up and serve me to the nightshades. How are you letting a ten year old get away with that?” Bianca questioned.

“Yes. You are quite insufferable Bianca.”

“Maybe you just like having a fan.” Divina chimed in.

Wednesday just got up and grabbed a plate of food. Just like that Wednesday could shut a conversation down because she was done with it. Enid almost found it mesmerizing.

Around three hours later after more party activities, the group made their way down to the pond, which was abandoned by Enid siblings long ago. She was finally getting the break she needed this summer. Enid sat on the dock peacefully as she watched her friend play in the water. Wednesday was currently trying to drown Yoko, mostly because she couldn’t drown Bianca. Yoko's head finally bobbed above the water.

“For fucks sake Divina save your own girlfriend.” Yoko yelled just as she went back down.

“Wednesday please stop drowning my friends as funny as it is.” Wednesday glared at Enid at such a preposterous request. Though she seemed to listen as Yoko broke the surface again. Divina dragged her out of the water.

“Okay I need a girlfriend break.” Yoko held up her hands. “I surrender, I’m walking through your woods Enid.”

“Oh ya have fun! Try not to drown while you're out there.”

Bianca and Wednesday both got out of the water as well. Bianca looked between Enid's smiling face and Wednesday death glare.

“Ya so I can in fact suffocate so I am going to go third wheel that.” Bianca ran after Yoko and Divina.

Wednesday came and sat on the edge of the dock with Enid.

“Well that was a delightful experience, a little attempted murder always puts me in the party mood.”

“Is your soulmate mark under your swimsuit. Now is a great time to show me. A perfect birthday present.”

“It isn’t your birthday yet.” Wednesday retorted.

“You can’t just play along?” Enid rolled her eyes. “I'm going to be 17 with no soulmate. It's pathetic.”

“No you’re pathetic,”

“Excuse me,” Enid turned to Wednesday.

“You care way too much. That is what’s pathetic. I see the way you let your mother push you around.”

“How dare you. I am-” Enid stopped at the sound of Winny running down the bank screaming, of course. “Winny what the hell?”

Winny continued running past the girls jumping off the dock, fully dressed, splashing into the water. She landed in the pond with such force the whole pound got sprinkled in the splash.

“Winifred! You just soaked us!” Enid grumbled, though it didn’t last long as Winny came out of the water with a devilish grin.

“Mom said I couldn’t get my dress wet…”

“You little rugrat.” Enid laughed, grabbing Winny up and spinning her around until they both landed back down on the grass with an extra giggle from Winny. “Moms gonna kill you and I’m not going to save you after getting me all wet.” Enid stood and twisted just out of reach as Winny tried to take her back down. Enid made it safely back to Wednesday, who was still sitting on the dock with the usual Wednesday face.

Winny laid down in all her soaked glory, right between where Wednesday and Enid were sitting.

“Wednesday how lucky do you feel getting to have a sleepover with Enid every night!?” Enid struggled to hold in laughter as her sister turned to Wednesday with full seriousness.

“As lucky as a daisy in a storm”

Winny giggled. “I wish I could visit more often, mom always complains about me not loving the family and that I’m trying to leave. Which makes no sense! She's sending you away to some stupid camp which means you’ll be away from the family and I won’t get to see you again until the holidays!”

Enid grabbed her sister pulling her in close. “You don’t ever worry about me alright?” Enid put her hands around her sister's face. “I know how to take care of myself just fine. No camp is going to change that.”

Enid gave her sister one last big squeeze. “Win, could you go find my friends and tell them to come back? I don’t want them getting lost in those woods.”

“YES! You got it.” Winny smiled big at Enid and ran off towards the woods.

Enid averted her gaze, instead she started twiddling with the edge of her shirt.

“Camp” Wednesday said as if she had communicated a whole novel.

“Camp…well, it's to get me to transform into a werewolf. My family is embarrassed that I haven’t yet. I doubt it will work. This party is the last thing I will get before being sent away.”

“Did you not inform her of all my research?”

“No, not really, I could tell her I cured cancer and I’m not sure she would think it was enough or even if she would believe me to begin with.”

“That is madding and not the delightful kind.”

“Why? You love anything and everything that pisses other people off.” Enid went to dangle her foot over the edge of the dock and lightly make ripples in the water.

“I could add piranhas to your pond as a treat to your mother.” Enid could've sworn Wednesday almost had the twinge of a smile.

“No…” Enid chuckled a little, taking her foot far away from the edge of the dock. “We do not need that.” She continued to move away from the dock. “I could use some good board games. I don’t want to think about any of this right now.” Enid started up the hill back towards her house, Wednesday in tow with no rebuttal.

Enid hugged each of her friends goodbye and watched as their cars slowly disappeared down her driveway. Only Winny and Wednesday still stood next to her.

“They should all come over more! Yoko was so fun! She carried me all around the woods!” WInny giggled.
“I'm glad you like them Winny, I’m not sure mom will really want them back over anytime soon though, why don't you go tell her all about how lovely they were to you! Maybe that will convince her.” Enid smiles down at her sister. Winny just beamed back before running into the house screaming mom.

“So… are you just waiting for your parents to come or?” Enid asked.

“Lurch is on his way.”

Enid waited to hear the sound of tires on her driveway, instead all she heard was the slight sway of her porch swing. All Enid could think about was camp and all she wanted to do was lay in bed and soak up her room before being charted away to her version of hell. She did not need the awkward silence of Wednesday who was probably just thinking about how ridiculous she was over not sticking up to her own mother.

“What time do you leave?” Wednesday for once broke the silence first.

“I really don’t want to talk about that right now Wednesday.”

Wednesday turned to look at Enid. “You don’t need to.” She paused hearing the sound of crunching gravel. “You could come with me,” Wednesday started for her car. Enid was gob smacked.

“Wednesday what?! You can’t just invite me to live with you like that for like 3 weeks.”

“Why not? Do you want to go to camp? I am all for torture Enid,” She paused opening the car door before looking back at Enid. “Maybe not for you though Enid… So just get in the car.”

Enid couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Yet for once it was the first time she wasn’t worried about what her mother was going to think.

The next thing Enid knew she was in a large black limbo with nothing but the clothes on her back and a phone in hand.
