Chapter Text

Turning on the stove, I placed the red sauce pan over the flame and walked over to the fridge. I grabbed two eggs and a piece of ham, walking back over to the stone I scooped a small amount of butter into the pan. I grabbed an english muffin and cut it in half placing it in the toaster. I placed the ham into the pan, hearing the crackling of the butter as the ham cooked. Over the ham I cracked the egg and let it cook as I went into the counter and started making myself a pot of coffee. I walked back over to the stone and flipped the egg and ham. I heard the front door open and slam shut, heavy footsteps walked into the kitchen. “Hey Eren.” I said, still looking at the pan.

“Hey.” He nodded, grabbing the pot of coffee and a cup. I smiled as he poured himself a coffee. “Armin and Mikasa are coming soon.” I nodded as I yawned, I walked over to him and gave him a hug. The feeling of comfort felt nice as he ran his hands up and down my back.

“I’m going to go wake my mom.” I looked up at him and left him there. “Watch my food!” I called with a laugh as I walked down the hall. I knocked on my mom’s door and waited for a response. Nothing. “Mom! Time to wake up! I’m making breakfast.” I said as I opened and I paused. There from the bathroom I saw a hand laying on the floor. My heart dropped. I ran over to the bathroom door. “MOM!” I screamed. I stood above her in shock. My heart pounded, vision clouded. Tears started running down my face. I dropped to my knees. “EREN! HELP!” I screamed as I checked her pulse. I felt nothing. I looked to her on the other side of her body and saw several orange pill bottles laying all over, and pills laying on the counter, and several pills on the floor. I shook her body trying to get her to respond to me. Her body was cold and pale. I placed my hands on her chest and started doing chest compressions. Soon Eren ran in. “Call 911!” I cried, as I put my whole body pressing down on her sternum. Tears ran down my face. “EREN! GO!” I lifted her chin and did two breaths, then went back to doing chest compressions. Eren ran out of the room, he was gone for what felt like an eternity. Beads of sweat dripped off of my forehead and landed on my mothers pale face. I could barely hear the sirens coming and people entered my house running toward me. I nearly collapsed from exhaustion, as the paramedics pushed me out of the way asking me questions.

“What happened?” One of them asked. As the other started putting wires on her. Checking her heart rate, and oxygen levels.

“I don't know! I just walked in to wake her up  and I found her on the floor with all these pills around her.” I let out a sob as Eren came over to move me out of the way. He pulled me into his warm embrace. I clung to his sweater crying. “Is she going to be okay?” The two paramedics looked at each other.

“How long were you doing cpr?” The other asked. As the other started to do cpr once I stopped.

“Like ten minutes.” While after he kept doing the chest compressions the other called him off.

“I’m sorry it looks like she took this sometime during the night. She died way before morning.” The one said slowly, he stood up and came over to me. My eyes widened and my hand came over my mouth, quite sobs ran through me. Eren pulled me into his arms again, his hand smoothed my hair as he shushed me.

“She’s gone.” After the moment I realized that she was truly gone my mind seem to not work, everything was fuzzy and blurred. I had so many people talking to me. Cops kept asking me questions that I didn't know the answer to. Soon after I saw my mom’s lifeless body being loaded up in the coroner’s car. My sister had come and she came and gave me a hug.

“I’m so sorry I wasn't here Chari.” My eyes were like lakes as I hugged my big sister.

“Hange, why-” We both cried in each other's arms. “What am I going to do? Where am I going to live?” She pulled back and held my face in her hands.

“You’re moving in with me, no doubt about it.” She croaked, kissing my head. I looked over to see Levi, one of her best friends, talking with Eren. I nodded lightly. “We are going to get through this, I promise.” I believed her, she was the smartest person I have ever met, my lawyer sister. She cast the biggest shadow down onto me.

Just like that my life changed.
