Rin and safe become synonymous in his head, there was no word without the other, he couldn’t describe rin without the thoughts guardkeepprotectpromise.
His own survival instinct, which had never been strong, is second value to his urge to ensure Rin’s survival.
He is to her what the Anbu is to the hokage,
what priests are to ancient alters,
and that doesn’t make rin delicate or divine, doesn’t diminish her own ability to protect herself, all it means is that she has someone to fall back on, should bad come to worse,
a safety net, a last resort, a lifeguard.
