Midsummer's Eve

Summary:

My imagination ran wild while listening to this song, this is the end result.

Chapter 1: Prologue | Cyclaam

Chapter Text

Midsummer was finally upon them, the cold loneliness of winter far behind them.

Arwen touched the flower crown resting on the chair next to her bed. It was the last one she had received in the previous summer.

Her fingers flitted over the seven flowers.

Seven promises given to her.

With some luck they would meet again tonight, as her heart yearned to be touched once more.

Her joints ached as she pushed herself into a sitting position before carefully lowering her feet on the cold floor. Only one more day, tonight would bring them together once more.

Their meeting was as bittersweet as ever, only able to meet during a midsummer eve. Yet Arwen wasn't ready when she woke up and the usual flower crown left for her had changed.

Seven promises given to her.

Seven flowers in her hair.

Yellow lily for their love.

Aloe and edelweiss, a whispered promise.

Fern, the truth of her Love.

Blue salvia and white clover as a silent exchange of question and answer.

Willow replacing the lilac that had been present since the first flower crown she had ever received.

Arwen went every evening still granted to her, touching, feeling the love for her.

The flower crown never changed.

It was at the last day of midsummer that Arwen was much earlier at their spot than normally. Waiting for her love to appear from the mist.

Seven promises in her hair waiting to be swept away.

Seven promises laying on the grass waiting to be picked up.

Seven promises to her in her like a crown fitting for a queen.

Seven promises laying on the grass like a dream on midsummer's eve.

On the last day of midsummer Arwen arrived during the day and left a flower crown of her own for her love to find.

No seven promises for the maiden of mist. Two would have to be enough.

When her love appeared from the mist to sweep Arwen away only a flower crown awaited her.

Cyclaam and milkweed, a goodbye and farewell.

A flower crown fit for a queen.
