Chapter 1: Never stopped, Never will

Chapter Text

People were staring. Hard. It is as if they saw Jesus walk in with all his apostles and hands out bread to everyone. Typically, Wednesday would glare back, but today? No, she cannot. And it is her fault she is currently in this situation. Where is Wednesday you ask? At a party. Everyone at their batch was invited to Kent’s birthday party.

Exactly, she herself could not believe it. And why is she doing this is far more stupid of a reason. You see, Wednesday was known as the resident goth short girl who is too focused on her studies or would rather be alone. And because of that, it is one of the factors why she is in this foolish party filled with cretinous, dull-witted people. Well, Wednesday is here for two reasons, she wanted to prove that she can have fun and because of a certain girl.

You see, this is one of the things people did not know about Wednesday. She was in a serious relationship with the university’s cheerleading captain, Enid Sinclair. Both of them agreed that the only set of people who will know about their relationship are their close friends. Their relationship ended after a year, for the reason that Wednesday thought that they were going fast, to which she now sees is an asinine reason. Some of them are still in contact with Wednesday, especially Yoko, Divina, and Bianca which are Enid’s closest friends who she considers as sisters for life, as she told Wednesday.

Wednesday’s arrival did not go unnoticed by some of Enid’s friends who also went into the party, therefore, Yoko decided to text Enid about her arrival. As much as they already know they have broken up, which was recent, by the way, it had just been two months. They could definitely see that both girls are still heavily in love with each other, Enid has been sulking for the past months and that kind of threw her off her focus in things she normally does every day.

Getting that text from Yoko made her confused and worried for Wednesday, she should not have as they already broke up, however, she cannot get over the girl. To be honest, she does not believe Wednesday’s reason for breaking up with her, which makes it her little mission to know the real reason. Setting it aside on her mind for now, she immediately changed her clothing from pajama to a casual wear then grabbed her car and apartment keys and went to give her cat rather their cat, Thing, his dinner before heading out. In their one year of being in a relationship, they had adopted a cat with mostly black fur with white spots in its body. They found the cat on their way out from the restaurant they had their first date.

Starting her car, she connected her phone to her car for some music before driving out of the parking lot. Just in time, the song ‘Driver’s license by Olivia Rodrigo’ played through, Oh how Enid sang along and casually screaming some of the lyrics while allowing herself to reminisce their first date. Quite fitting with the song playing right now, actually, as their first date was a celebratory dinner curtesy of Wednesday as she insisted that they go out to eat instead of cooking in when she passed her driving test. She could remember how Wednesday listened to her stories that night regardless of how nonsense they were, she was even giving some inputs which made her heart fill with love.

As the party location was not that far from where Enid stays, she soon found herself walking towards the front door. Inside, on the kitchen area, Wednesday was pulled in by Kent and Ajax and passed her a red cup filled with beer, being hyped up and encouraged she downed the cup so fast. People around her cheered her up after seeing she emptied the cup. Another cup was thrusted to her hand and she now takes occasional sips.

Enid on the other hand, once she entered the house, she saw Yoko waving to the area they were hanging out.

“Please tell me Wednesday’s fine right now.” Frantically looking around for a certain short goth girl.

“Girl, she was pulled in somewhere by Kent and Ajax somewhere in the house.” Divina pointed out towards kitchen.

Yoko gave Enid a bottle of beer, giving her a gentle smile as she communicated through her eyes that seems to tell Enid, Go on do what you want, we’ll be here. And so she did, she went to the area Divina pointed earlier. She caught sight of Wednesday who has been now drinking beer one after the other. She could tell that the girl in front of her was already drunk yet having fun, which made her smile even though she is filled with worry.

Wednesday has never drank beer, she was more of a wine person, so everything at this was new to her. I am going to be so wasted tomorrow she thought. She is even slurring, heck, she does not slur when talking. She has had about five cups ever since she arrived, in her hands were her sixth and here she was laughing at the stories being shared in front of her. Apparently, her classmates like Wednesday when she is care-free, they have told her so. Multiple times since she came.

Deciding that she will take a few rests on the couch, her leg has been aching from standing for quite too long already. Once she whipped her head to the right, she saw her. The person she regrets breaking up with, the person she has been pining, the love of her life. Her mind not being able to cooperate with her at the moment because of drunkenness, she ended up just staring at her, letting her eyes do the work with showing her emotions she hopes to convey.

Enid might have got the said emotions for she went to Wednesday to start a small conversation, unsure how drunk the girl was.

“Uh, hey. Uhm, how are you?”

“Enid… I-… Miserable.” Wednesday managed to say despite slurring.

“You want to sit?” She received a nod; she guided them both towards a couch which luckily has no occupants.

“En-Enid… why’re you here? You, uh, have a cheer practice tomorrow”

Enid was shocked that Wednesday knows about her schedule, not even Yoko, Divina, nor Bianca knows her schedule. Nor do they care about her schedule, they only care when they get to perform, that is one thing they will never miss.

“Yeah, I do. How about you? I am surprised you went to a party in your own; You are on your own, weren’t you?”

Wednesday eyes were getting heavy, alcohol is really kicking her butt right now. Enid noticed this and so she asked Wednesday if she wanted to go home already.

“Hey, uhm, you want to go? Did you bring your car?”

“No. L-Lurch… drove.” Apparently, Lurch is Wednesday’s family driver. She must have known she might get sloshed tonight if she asked for Lurch to drive her.

Enid heard Wednesday mumble ‘home.’ So, she helped Wednesday stand up and held her hand and waist, carefully leading her out the house. On the way, she heard Bianca shout her name.

“Enid! Going home already?” Bianca must have not seen Wednesday beside Enid, as she got surprised when Enid pointed out Wednesday and made a sign of going out.

Getting the message, Bianca gestured a thumbs up.

The two girls made it to Enid’s car safe. She strapped Wednesday’s seatbelt for her, hovering over Wednesday, stopping midway after securing the girl. Eyes closed, Wednesday’s head was leaning on the car seat’s head rest, no idea of Enid’s staring. She felt eyes on her, regardless. She was just not sure if her drunk mind was making it up, she just slept.

“Weds, Uhm, Wednesday. Hey.” Checking if Wednesday was awake. This girl’s alcohol tolerance is a bit low, she chuckled.

She decided to drive towards her apartment instead, knowing that Wednesday’s apartment was much farther.

The car ride was quiet, as one of them was asleep. She debated whether to play music or not, which ended up in not playing music nor creating any noise. As soon as they made it to the parking, she helped Wednesday get out of the car, the girl was now a little awake and still drunk as ever.

They made it to Enid’s room after almost ten minutes as Enid’s apartment was on fourth floor and they had to take breaks since Wednesday was quite heavy even for a small body.

Once the door opened, Thing greeted them both. Thing must have recognized Wednesday, after all, she is her other parent. Thing kept rubbing his face to Wednesday’s leg, as Wednesday crouched, and picked Thing up, caressing his fur. She will not admit but she did miss their cat.

“Hello, Thing. How are you boy?” Enid smiled as Wednesday continued to baby talk Thing.

After talking with Thing, Wednesday let him go and went to sit on the couch. Even with her drunk brain and half-lidded eyes, she can still see that nothing much has changed in Enid’s apartment. Just some new toys and new bed for Thing.

“Would you like coffee?” Enid offered.

“Yes please” She croaked.

Enid passed a bottled water to Wednesday, “Here drink this first while I make you your coffee, you sound terrible. The usual right?”

Unscrewing the cap, she replied, “Yes. Thank you.” And she drank.

A few minutes and silence settled within the room before Enid handed Wednesday her cup of coffee. Wednesday started sipping on it.

“You know, now thinking of it. You never answered my question.”

Wednesday hummed, “Remind me again what question”

“I asked if you were with someone at the party”

Please say you went alone

“Why, are you jealous” Alcohol definitely is making her brave.

“As if, just answer the question”

The goth chuckled, “No, I came by myself. You?”

“Alone as well.”

Once again silence covered the room. A beat.

“I- uh, I would like to apologize I should not have just broken up with you with that stupid reason I know it is not enough”

“So, what made you end what we had?” Enid’s eyes were seeking and were almost as if begging. Begging for an answer. She was desperate you could say, but really, she would allow the girl to have another chance based on her reason.

“I was just scared; we just have so many differences. We are polar opposites, just like that lyric to the song you kept replaying. You were sunshine and I was midnight rain.”

It dawned to Enid that despite Wednesday’s nonchalant look, she gets overwhelmed. She felt bad as she did not notice it before.

Enid carefully, held her hand to Wednesday’s face, she felt her lean onto her touch. She missed this. She missed them.

“We work, Wednesday. They might think we could not, but screw them because we do. Heck, I do not even care what other people would say about us. What matters is I have you and that you have me.”

Wednesday looked at her in the eyes, “I am so in love with you, it hurts when I am not with you. My love never stopped, and it never will. If you allow to take me back.”

Chuckling, Enid responded, “You and me on the same page. I love you too, Wednesday. What we had was the best thing to ever happen to me, and yes. I will love to be back in my arms.”

Wednesday, now more sober than ever, lunged forward. Crashing her lips to Enid’s. Heavy, desperate kisses ensued the two. The room was filled with sounds of heavy breathing and pleasure as they continued to show how much they have missed each other through kisses.

“I hope you are now not too drunk for you to not remember this in the morning.”

“My love, I will never forget every moment I have with you.”

Wednesday tugging Enid up from the couch, she led Enid towards her bedroom. Fortunately, still the same room. Once they sat on the bed, they could not contain but kiss one another again, they just really missed each other too much despite being only two months apart. To them it felt a year. Slowly their kisses became languid as Wednesday once again felt tired.

Enid sensing her the other girl’s tiredness, she gave her one last chaste kiss before pulling away. She helped Wednesday get into a more comfortable position, and removed her shoes as well as some of her clothing that seems uncomfortable to sleep into.

After a few minutes, she settled beside her still-awake girlfriend. It felt so good to call her that once again. She noticed that Wednesday was fighting sleep.

“Sleep, baby. I will still be here in the morning, after that and for the rest of the mornings we will have together.”

This made Wednesday smile. God, she was just so in love with this woman.

“Good night, my love. I love you” Allowing herself to get pulled to sleep, feeling Enid snuggle to her.

“Good night, baby. I love you.” Giving Wednesday a kiss on the cheek one last time before sleep consumes them both.

Unknown to them, Thing crawled in the middle of them both, curling up. All of them snuggled.
