It had rained that morning. At the foggy break of dawn the sound of tiny puttering was lightly drowned-out by rustling under heavy covers. She hadn't been sleeping well as of lately and like always woke up at around 4 AM from no less than another nightmare. What surprised her was not the now customary interrupted dreams but the noticeably rich downpour. Her eyes glimmered as she took in the scent of freshly dampened pavement, the moistened earth, the showered trees, the unruly autumn breeze, and the relaxing tiptoeing of droplets through the cracked window. Most of the time she hadn’t been able to manage even a twinge of a smile and usually the rainy weather did little to nothing to uplift her constantly bleak mood. But, today was different. This felt different. She was comforted by the nipping breeze that blew her curtains inwards into a subtle yet gracious curtsy. It felt pleasant on her now goose-fleshed skin as the bed remained insulated with the natural body heat that was none other than her own.
It seemed that now such lips could find an inconsequential reason to have the slightest curve upwards.
