Work Text:

En Yufuin didn't like many things. It's not that he hated much, either - except cockroaches, but really, they were pretty hateable. It's just that he was mostly indifferent. Categorising things required effort and he really wasn't up for that.
However, there were a handful of things En did like.

There was the Kurotama Bath. Soaking there after an exhausting day at school always felt great.
Then there were naps and sleeping in general. Sleeping didn't require effort and even helped him get refreshed. They were perfect!
En also liked onsen manjuu. In fact, he liked them so much that he'd made it his goal in life to try all the onsen manjuu that was out in the world.
Then there were video games which were a nice way to stay entertained and to use his brain without having to move much. However, Atsushi was mostly better at them than En and finished them for him - without permission, most of the time.
Which led to the last thing which En probably liked most of them all; Atsushi. Spending time with the other boy was never boring, even when they weren't doing anything. En knew that without Atsushi he probably wouldn't get anything done and even though he complained at times, he was really grateful for that. That's also why he couldn't stay mad at him for beating his video games. It had probably come to the point where En took Atsushi's presence for granted.

Still, even though Atsushi was the thing - or rather being - that En liked most, he still didn't like him as much as some people might think. Atsushi was the most important person to him, that was true, but it still didn't mean that he expected something else from him than friendship. En had heard two of their classmates talk before about how apparently he and Atsushi acted like an "old married couple" but there really wasn't anything to that.
En simply couldn't imagine himself doing couple-y things with his best friend; things like holding hands or kissing or even more were just not what they did. They'd known each other for several years now and never had En thought about how small Atsushi's lips were or how much brighter his eyes were when he took off his glasses.

En was sitting in their club room when he thought about all this. His head was pillowed on his arms as he lay forward on the desk. Atsushi was sitting right next to him, looking concentrated as he wrote something - probably homework. He didn't know what the others were doing but since it was pretty quiet En guessed that they were busy cuddling, checking the stocks and checking mails, as always.

En had just napped earlier during their lunch break so he didn't feel particularly tired (yet) and ended up watching Atsushi because he was just in his line of sight.
He could see how Atsushi's brows pulled together when he seemed to wonder how to properly word an answer and how the skin between them wrinkled a little. En felt the urge to smooth them out with his thumb.
When he looked a bit further down, En could see how Atsushi's glasses slid down a little as he leaned forward to finally write down what he had just worried his brain over. The brown rim tipped against his cheekbone and En followed his features to look at the round shape of his cheeks. He wanted to push the glasses back up.
His eyes then followed Atsushi's gaze and found his hands. The slim fingers wound around his mechanical pencil like ivy around a tree. They were thin, just like all of Atsushi was. En wondered if Atsushi had gained some weight and he wanted to check it by comparing their hands and winding his own fingers around his friend's.
He also watched, as Atsushi put the back of his pencil against the corner of his mouth when he was apparently stuck on a particularly hard problem. The rubber gently glided between his lips and En wondered just how soft Atsushi's lips were compared to his own. Somehow, he wanted to find out by pressing them against each other.

Suddenly, En's eyes widened and he took in a sharp breath. Atsushi turned to him with worried eyes and his name on his lips. En was still focused on them and even though he'd heard Atsushi say it countless times it felt like the first time ever. His heart seemed to be beating out of his chest. He rolled his head on his arms until his face was fully hidden and let out a quiet whimper.

There were only a handful of things En Yufuin really liked. There were the Kurotama Bath, sleeping, manjuu and video games. And most of all he liked Atsushi.

Notes:

I haven't written anything in weeks and I just really needed to write SOMETHING and the thought of En not realising he's actually in love with Atsushi didn't leave me alone ever since I've read his character interview... So yeah, this happened on a whim last night because I just really needed to finally write it down.
