It was one of the toughest decisions Star Butterfly ever had to make.
Magic had been taken to its breaking point, and now, it had to be destroyed so that the Solarian army, whose magical weapons could wipe out all of existence, destroyed monsterkind before continuing their crusade across the multiverse.
Yes, there was a lot of context missing from those two sentences. And no, she didn't have time to explain it all.
All you needed to know was that there was only one way to fix it: to destroy all of magic, erasing it for good.
“Star.”
The girl turned around to see her mother, Moon Butterfly, and the true Butterfly rulers, Eclipsa and the infant Meteora Butterfly, approaching her.
“I’ve been speaking with Eclipsa… and there might be something we can do.”
“Besides destroying magic?!” Star chirped, perking up at a potential way out of this all-but-named genocide.
“No, that… I’m afraid it will have to be done,” Eclipsa sighed. “But, there is one spell that will allow us to avoid this happening in other universe.”
“Universes?” Star tilted her head. “Not… dimensions?”
The woman exchanged looks, and Moon looked back at her daughter, placing her hand on her shoulder as she answered:
“It’s a long story…”
…
Meanwhile, a girl named Jackie Lynn-Thomas sat down on a bench watching the ocean at the docks of Echo Creek, taking a deep breath as she watched the sunset with a look of melancholy.
“Hey, Jackie.”
The girl turned to her right, and saw her boyfriend, Marco, approaching her with a pair of drinks in hand. He sat by her side and handed her a drink, with the two of them drinking them in unison before looking at the sunset together.
“Thanks, Marco,” Jackie sighed. “This has been one of the best dates I’ve ever had.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it,” Marco smiled. “I had a lot of fun too. Hopefully the lobsters will find their way home.”
“Yeah…” Jackie lowered her head. “At least hopefully they’ll get to leave this day on a happy note.”
Marco paused and raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
Jackie took a deep breath. This was the moment she had dreaded the most, but there was no turning back. She turned to her boyfriend and said:
“Marco, I-”
“Can anyone hear me?”
Jackie flinched and looked around with confusion, causing Marco to grow worried. “Jackie, what’s wrong?”
“Did… did you hear that?”
Marco raised an eyebrow. “Hear what?”
“I heard Star’s voice,” Jackie stood up and looked around. “She asked if-”
"To whoever gets these memories, please, I'm begging you… help my past selves so these extremes never become a reality!"
Before Jackie could even understand what the message meant, she was assaulted by a constant flash of images, causing her to grab her head and scream as she hit the ground, breathing heavily and sweating bullets as multiple memories flashed to her.
Marco went to Jackie’s side, but the assault of memories made the girl oblivious to his panic, with the memories slowing down after a while…. until the last few memories depicted a certain purple-haired lookalike of Star, with Star’s voice shouting:
“Mina Loveberry! She cannot win! She must be stopped!”
At that point, the memories stopped, and Jackie returned to reality, finding herself on the floor, with a panicking Marco shaking her in hopes of waking her up.
“Jackie! Jackie, please answer me!”
“I’m back! I’m back!” Jackie exclaimed. “I’m back… sorry.”
“Oh, thank goodness!” Marco took a deep breath. “What happened? You looked around and, out of nowhere, you began to scream and trash around.”
“I heard Star’s voice asking if anybody could hear her, and then, she asked whoever got “these memories”, to help avoid… somebody from going to extremes,” Jackie rubbed her forehead. “It wasn’t very clear, except for one thing.”
“And that is?”
Jackie stood up, dusted herself, and took a deep breath before stating:
“Mina Loveberry. She cannot win. She must be stopped.”
Marco’s eyes widened, as if he knew what that was supposed to mean. Jackie then turned to face him, and when she did, they exchanged determined expressions and nodded before they looked back at the sunset, stating in unison:
“We need to go to Mewni.”
