Chapter Text
Their first night together, after meeting in the bar, is rushed. They lost track of time talking and realized they both had early shifts the next morning. However, they both knew they didn’t want the night to end without at least one orgasm for each of them. So back at Carina’s place, Carina stripped her shirt, Maya’s stayed on and Carina was distracted by… other things to really care. And Maya was gone in the morning before Carina could suggest another round.
Their next meeting in Maya’s office was similar. While Carina just wanted to bring Maya lasagna and eat lunch together and get to know each other more, she can’t say she was disappointed when Maya pushed her against the shelf to make out. Because Maya was still on duty, and only had limited time before someone came looking for her or she got called out, her clothes stayed on again. Carina couldn’t complain much since she was thoroughly enjoying their encounters, she can’t help but feel disappointed that she hasn’t been able to get the blonde naked.
They take a break from sex, not really planned, but they both end up very busy and on opposite schedules. They have to get by on phone calls and texts, but even those end up with them just talking more often than it leads to other things. And then they start making the shift from hookup buddies to girlfriends and their meetups become actual dates. Carina takes Maya out to dinner, Maya takes Carina out for coffee. At the end of each of these dates, they end with a kiss at the door and a promise to text when they got home. Carina loves dating Maya, don’t get her wrong, talking to Maya is becoming one of her favourite activities, but she’s extremely frustrated each time Maya leaves her with a soft kiss and nothing more.
Maya drops Carina off at her apartment after their sixth date. Carina should applaud her restraint that she holds back for six dates. Carina hasn’t gone six dates without sex ever. When Maya kisses her, Carina doesn’t let her go. She grabs the collar of Maya’s jacket and pulls her inside. She begins kissing Maya’s neck as she tugs her jacket off but Maya stops her. Carina barely holds back her growl.
“As much as I would love to continue this,” Maya says, “I have an early shift tomorrow so I should probably go home and get some rest.”
“You can rest here,” Carina insists, already moving back to Maya’s neck.
“Something tells me we won’t be resting,” Maya says, “It’s not that I don’t want to, but I want to be able to take my time with you. I don’t want to be rushed because I have to leave in a few hours.”
As much as it frustrates Carina, she lets Maya go. For the next three days, all Carina can think of is Maya taking her time with her. It leaves Carina more frustrated than she was before and she finds herself snapping at anyone who gets too close. After a particularly rough lecture in Italian to Andrew, Carina makes up her mind. The next day, when she knows Maya is off shift, she calls in sick and goes to Maya’s place. When Maya opens the door, Carina pushes herself inside.
“Carina? What are you doing here? I thought you had work.”
“Take off your clothes.”
“What?”
As cute as the confused frown is on Maya’s face, Carina has needs and she needs Maya to be out of her clothes sooner rather than later.
“We haven’t had sex since your office and I am not waiting another six dates. You are off shift, I called in sick, we have no one to interrupt us. Now take off your clothes,” Carina all but demands.
Maya doesn’t say anything, just kisses Carina roughly and drags her to the bedroom. All Carina can think is finally!
Maya gets Carina’s shirt off and starts on her pants before Carina pushes her back against the door.
“I told you to take off your clothes, not mine,” Carina says. Maya smirks, but obliges. As soon as she tugs her shirt off, Carina’s mouth goes dry. She isn’t expecting that.
Maya’s whole chest and stomach is covered in ink. And from what Carina can see, it extends to her back too.
“You have tattoos,” Carina rasps.
“I do.”
“A lot of tattoos.”
“Do you like them?” Maya asks. Carina drags her eyes up from Maya’s front to her eyes and despite Maya’s confident tone, Carina can see the doubt in her eyes.
“You are so… attraente,” Carina slides her hands up sides, tracing her fingers along Maya’s tattoos, “You’re so sexy bella.”
After Carina spends her afternoon studying Maya’s tattoos, they lay in bed together, sweaty and sated. Maya is laying on her front with Carina on her side, running her fingers over the tattoos on Maya’s back.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you had tattoos,” Carina says.
“You didn’t ask,” Maya responds. Carina huffs. “I can’t believe you skipped work just to have sex.” Carina can hear the smirk in her voice.
“I didn’t hear you complaining amante.”
“I’m not,” Maya leans up on her elbows to kiss Carina. They make out for a bit until Maya lays back down.
“Why so many tattoos?”
“I just wanted to,” Maya says, “After the Olympics I got the cliche rings tattoo. My dad hated it. He told me I was defacing my body and wasting money. That I shouldn’t celebrate winning gold since I couldn’t go back and do it again. After I moved out, the next one I got was just to rebel. I’d never rebelled against any of my dad’s rules before, and I just had a rush sitting in the tattoo parlour, knowing that I finally had control over myself and my dad couldn’t stop me. And I really like them. Some of them mean something but some are just for fun. I like that I chose them and that they’re permanent. Even if my dad ever finds out, he can’t do anything about it. They’re mine forever.”
“They’re beautiful bambina,” Carina says. She ignores the nagging voice in her head that tells her the things Maya is saying about her dad is worrying. This isn’t the time or place. “Just like you.” Maya blushes.
“Thank you.”
“Will you tell me about them? The ones that mean something?” Carina asks.
“Yeah,” Maya says, “Someday.” Maya shifts around to her front. “Here.” She points to one on her shoulder. It’s a fire helmet with the number 19 on it. “I got that one with Andy. I know a lot of people think matching tattoos are stupid but 19 is our home and we wanted to share it together. She’s still my best friend and I don’t regret it. 19 will always be my home and I will always share that with Andy, no matter what.”
Carina can tell Maya is getting upset about the state of her friendship with Andy, so she leans down and presses a kiss to the tattoo. She looks across Maya’s shoulders and points to another.
“What about that one?”
Maya barks out a laugh. It’s a dinosaur, poorly drawn.
“We have tours of the station for elementary schools and sometimes the kids bring in pictures they drew. A kid drew this dinosaur and Vic and Travis bet me 40 bucks each to get it tattooed. They thought I would never do it but they had to pay up when I showed them.”
“You got a tattoo just to win 40 dollars?”
“They both paid me, so it was 80 dollars,” Maya points out.
“Dio mio,” Carina shakes her head, “You are something else bella.”
“I’m assuming you mean that in a good way.”
“Si, just promise me you won’t get anymore tattoos to win bets.”
“No promises.”
Carina shakes her head again and Maya rolls over on top of her, kissing her again. Carina makes a mental note to ask more about the tattoos later because right now there’s something else she’d rather be doing.
