Work Text:
Julie Joyful and Sally Starlet had been friends for years, but it wasn't until a warm summer night that they realized their feelings for each other ran much deeper.
They were lying on a blanket in Sally's backyard, staring up at the stars, talking about their hopes and dreams.
"My dream is to make a big play for all of the neighborhood to see. Maybe then I can be recognized..."
Sally let's on. Julie smiles at her and the thought. Her ambition was one of the things dear Julie adored about her star shaped friend. The one that gave her the courage to play on a stage where all the folks could see.
Getting pulled out of her thoughts Sally began to speak.
"How about you?"
"Me?"
Chuckling slightly Sally turns her head catching Julie's longing eyes.
"Yes you silly."
"Oh me haha...well if I got to be honest with you Sally my dream already came true."
Sally raised a brow at that. So soon and so suddenly that someone's dream came true. 'For a dream to come true don't they take a while?' Sally thought to herself.
"And what may that be?"
"Being here with everyone. In the neighborhood. My dream was to leave home to start anew and the neighborhood was just what I needed. A new scenery, a new ground to play, new friends to play with!"
Julie suddenly shot up upon her feet. Underneath the moonlight did she looked most like her angelic self. The version that Sally loved dearly.
"I've been so happy ever since I came here Sally! My happiness isn't something I can express with words and letter like the ones Eddie delivers. Nor the many items Mr. Howdy Pillar sells. Nor the fascinating paintings that Wally paints. And most especially not like the funny scriptures that Frank reads. It's more than all of those things!"
She exclaims raising her dainty arms in the air. A moment of silence alluded amongst the two and a burst of laughter breaks through.
Julie opened her eyes and wiped away the tears she sees the pink glow on Sally's cheeks. Her cheeks turned pink as well.
"Then maybe a play then?" Sally spoke.
"A play?"
"Yes! Maybe a play can help you express your happiness Julie."
It's as if Julie's smile can't grow any wider.
"Yes! A play! That's absolutely perfect! And we can ask the new neighbor to help along!"
"And Poppy and Barnaby!" Sally adds on making them laugh once again.
As they chatted, Sally reached out and took Julie's hand, and Julie felt a jolt of electricity run through her.
They looked into each other's eyes, and in that moment, they both knew that they were meant to be together. With a smile they look back out to the star filled sky.
The night was warm and balmy, and as they lay there gazing at the stars, they talked for hours about everything under the sun. They talked about their families, their interests, and their future plans. But most of all, they talked about their feelings for each other.
As the night wore on, they drew closer and closer, until their bodies were touching. They wrapped their arms around each other, and Julie felt a sense of peace and happiness that she had never experienced before.
Under the stars, they shared their first kiss, and it was magical. They kissed again and again, each time deepening their connection. Separating with a smile and more then rosy cheeks.
As the night drew to a close, they knew that their lives would never be the same. They had fallen in love under the stars, and they knew that they were meant to be together forever.
