Work Text:
You sat up in your bed in a flash of light, body shaking like a leaf on the tree that was standing proudly next to the moonlit window. You were using up all your energy to hold your breath and try to listen in to the night, which was welcoming you back with an eerie yet deafening silence.
That voice... you could've sworn you heard that voice again, which you thought would never come back to your life anymore. You knew very well that it was it, you could've recognized that tone amongst millions, and thanks to it, your whole being was on alert at the moment. The voice was still echoing in your mind, hitting against the increasingly thin walls that were separating reality and imagination.
"Y/N?" You heard a quiet mumble next to you. "Is everything okay?"
Thoma took your hand in his, bringing warmth and comfort all over your body despite the cool darkness that was filling up the bedroom. As his fingers were caressing your skin gently, you closed your eyes and tried to overcome your crushing emotions so you could tell him what happened.
"I think they're here." You said in a trembling tone. "I heard their voice outside."
Now Thoma began to listen carefully too, searching for any kind of sounds that may have been reminding you of their voice, taking even the smallest nest into consideration. Meanwhile, his hand now was squeezing yours instead of stroking it, not making you believe even for a moment that he was going to leave your side.
However, there was nothing he could hear out from the silence.
"Are you sure it was not just a dream?" He asked, now sitting up and hugging you from behind.
Your head was spinning from all the anxiety and confusion that were haunting you through your memories.
"It can't be... can it?" You mumbled in a distant voice.
You didn't remember any kind of dream you could've had that may've triggered this particular voice in your mind. It felt so real, waking up from a dreamless sleep into a reality that felt loud and frozen, just like it was before your new life on your boyfriend's side. In fact, while your mind was still trying to find its way back to this moment, for a matter of seconds, you were sure that all the comfort and safety that allowed your broken soul to heal, was just a mere fragment of your fantasy all along, and now you were opening your eyes only to find yourself at that particular place back again... alone.
You placed your head on his chest as he caressed gentle strokes on your temple, silently crying over the shock of your feelings and the way your mind made you believe your nightmare was real.
"Take a few deep breaths with me, okay? It was just a dream, you're safe."
You closed your eyes and did as he said, trying to calm yourself and stop the shake that ran through you, and the tears from falling down your face.
"They can't hurt you anymore, remember? We're alone, and I'm here with you." He placed a long and warm kiss on your nape, sending goosebumps down your whole body.
In, and out. In, and out.
"Good." He whispered in your ear. "You're doing very good, my love."
It was not real. It was not real.
With each breath you took together, the fear that was pulsing in your mind up until now slowly began to dissolve into nothingness.
"I'm sorry for waking you up." You said in a tired voice after fully gaining back your consciousness.
"Shh. Of course, I would wake up for you, dear." He chuckled. "I'm here."
You turned towards him and placed your arms around his neck while he spread his legs so you could get lost in his embrace more easily. Thoma was resting his chin on your head, leaving gentle kisses on your forehead occasionally. Minutes have passed as you were keeping each other close in this position. He never let you go, waiting patiently for the moment the memories of your dream faded away, so you could go back to sleep together. His body was so warm and comforting, you felt like you'd been being held by an angel. Your guardian angel.
The thought of him being so good to you filled your eyes with salty tears once again, you could never get used to the fact of how perfect he was in every way.
"Thank you." You said not so long after he brushed through your hair softly with his fingers.
"Are you feeling better?" He asked softly.
"Yeah."
"Shall we go back to sleep?"
"Uh-huh." You said with a tired voice before laying back on your pillows. You were still holding each other as the two of you were getting more comfortable in the bed, him laying on his back while you were resting your head on his chest. Thoma made sure to cover your body fully with your blanket too, so it could give you an extra sense of warmth and protection. For a short while, he continued brushing through your hair, playing with your locks with tiny, lazy moves.
"I love you, Thoma." You said before the two of you had the chance of falling back into your slumber.
"I love you too." He whispered in a sweet, sleepy voice before dreams fell on the bedroom once again.
