"Great, just what I needed the most.." You murmured sarcastically when the first drops of rain began to fall. You tilted your face up to the dark sky, closing your eyes at the feeling of the cold water running down your skin. One drop after another, what was a drizzle soon turned into a downpour. In just a couple of minutes your clothing was soaked, sticking to your goosebump covered body almost like a second layer of skin. But even then, you didn't want to leave. You wanted to stay outside just a little longer, to savour the feeling of your worries being washed away.
As much as you enjoyed the company of the seven demon brothers, sometimes you were in a need for some peace and quiet. That's what your secret spot was perfect for. Who would consider to look for you on RAD's roof anyway? Hidden in the shade of the tower, no one could spot you from below, and the wall you were leaning against provided you with enough comfort to sit without concerns of falling down. It wouldn’t be great if someone would close the window that served as your passage to and from the roof, but you didn’t see a reason why other students would check a clearly abandoned classroom to begin with.
Taking a deep breath, you tried to focus on the sound of the rain. It was like music to your ears, it brought silence to your thoughts. You found yourself losing track of time. If not for the cold shivers creeping up and down your drenched body, you’d gladly stay here for hours.
A weary sigh left your lips when you opened your eyes. You wiped your face with the wet sleeve of your jacket and then looked around. That’s when you noticed a dark figure approaching. Your heart raced as fear crept up inside you. Then, your attention was caught by the familiar white cape with a golden outline. "Simeon? What are you doing out there, in this weather?" Your called out to him. You had never felt so relieved to see the angel before.
"That's what I'd like to ask you.." Simeon sighed. His dark brown hair was sticking to his forehead, drops of water were running down his cheeks, neck, shoulders and any other part of his body you laid your eyes on. His drenched shirt made the outline of his chest and abdominal muscles stand out.
"How long have you been here?" You questioned, scooting over to make some space for him so he could sit down. This spot clearly wasn’t meant for two; it was cramped, your shoulder was pressing into his upper arm, and your thighs were squashed against each other. Neither of you seemed to mind though.
"Long enough to see you looking all grim. Is something upsetting you, Y/N?" He pushed his hair away from his eyes in order to see you better, his elbow moving dangerously close to your face.
"Upset? Not quite. I guess I was just.. running low on energy, but now I feel a bit better." You smiled. Even though both of you were soaked, Simeon’s body was surprisingly warm. Your skin was tingling where your thighs touched, the sensation sending shivers down your spine. You hadn’t acknowledged how cold you were until now.
"I assume it takes a lot to handle the daily antics of the demon brothers, doesn't it? They were like that back in Celestial Realm too, they always had something to quarrel about." Simeon laughed at what seemed to be a fond memory.
"It never gets old, but it surely gets tiring sometimes." You sighed. "Anyway, aren't you gonna catch a cold? You're soaking wet! And that clothing of yours isn't covering much either!" You changed the topic, poking his bare shoulder. The soothing warmth under your fingertips made it hard to pull your hand away.
"I'll be fine, I'm tougher than you may think." Simeon giggled. "You, on the other hand.. How long have you been sitting in the rain?’’ He took your hands into his own, by now having noticed that you were trembling. ‘’ Your hands are freezing cold... Should we get going?" Simeon rubbed the back of your hands, bringing them up to his lips and blowing warm air onto them.
You smiled at Simeon's sweet and caring gesture. "Yeah, I think so," you replied, feeling grateful for his warmth.
"How about I walk you back home? Or we could go elsewhere if you want to." Simeon let go of your hands. He stood up, helping you up when he noticed how stiff your movements looked. "Actually, let's discuss that once we get out of here, I wouldn't want to risk with either of us slipping and getting injured." The angel sighed, leading you to the window and gesturing for you to climb in first. He followed soon after.
"What about the Purgatory Hall?" You returned to your previous conversation, staring at Simeon's back while he closed the window. You wondered whether the puddle underneath the window’s opening came from the rain making it’s way inside the classroom or from the water dripping down your soaked clothing.
"Purgatory Hall, huh?’’ With the way he giggled, it was safe to say that Simeon was happy to hear your choice. ‘’Sounds good to me. There shouldn't be anyone else at the moment, Solomon has something to deal with in the human world, and Luke was adamant on Satan teaching him all about the constellations so he's in the House of Lamentation at the moment." He explained, reaching for your hand. You gladly accepted it, following Simeon as he left the classroom and walked down the hallways of RAD.
"Constellations, huh? He did seem to enjoy Satan's stories back when we were on the train." You smiled at the memory. Something was telling you that Satan probably enjoyed teaching Luke just as much, which meant that most likely you had at least a couple of hours to spend together, just the two of you.
The weather seemed to be clearing up. By now, the rain had subsided into a light drizzle. The change between warmth of indoors and fresh air made your skin cover in goosebumps all over again. Your nose tickled, making you sneeze.
"My, my.. We should hurry up before the consequences of your rainy adventures worsen.. Are you cold?" Simeon stopped in his tracks, eyeing you up and down with a concerned look.
"A little bit.." You admitted, shivering. You watched Simeon as he took off his cape, raising a brow when he wrapped it around your shoulders "Simeon, what are you doing?" You noticed the familiar scent of Simeon's cologne mixed with the fresh smell of rainfall. Even though his cape was soaked, you felt warmth seeping into your chilled body.
"You can wear this until we can get you some proper clothing. I don't want my favourite human to get sick." Simeon’s words made your cheeks flush light red. ‘’You look tired, let me carry you. It might not do much, but it should be slightly warmer that way for both of us." He continued, opening his arms to welcome you into his embrace. "Come on, I won't listen to any objections." His voice sounded as gentle as ever, but his gaze was stern.
You couldn't help but smile at his caring gesture. You wrapped your arms around his neck as he lifted you up, holding onto him tightly as he carried you in his strong arms. You buried your face in his chest, feeling his warmth and steady heartbeat. It was comforting being held by him like this, knowing that he was there to look out for you.
‘’Thank you, Simeon.’’ You closed your eyes, using the moment to relax. ‘’I was wondering.. How did you know that I was on the roof?’’ You didn’t think that Simeon was the kind of person who would follow someone around, even if that someone was you, so you were curious to hear his answer.
"About that... I've known about your secret spot for quite some time. You see, I was using that abandoned classroom for writing, it's easier to focus when no one's around. Sometimes I'd notice that the window wasn't fully shut, so that's how I found out.’’ He chuckled, running his fingers through your hair, seemingly unbothered by the fact that it was wet. ‘’Whenever I'd see you sitting there you seemed either peaceful or thoughtful, so I didn't want to bother you," He admitted. "I've used that spot a couple of times myself, it really is a great place for making sense out of one's thoughts if I must say so." Even though you couldn't see his face, you could imagine him smiling.
"Not so much of a secret place anymore, huh?" You mumbled against his chest. As long as it was him, you didn’t really mind that he knew.
"It's our secret place now." He corrected. As he walked, Simeon hummed a soft tune, his arms wrapped around your body in a gentle yet secure grip. Before you knew it, you felt yourself drift off to sleep. It was a strange feeling, being carried like this, but you trusted Simeon and knew he wouldn't let anything happen to you.
When you woke up, you were in a warm, cozy room, wrapped in blankets. Simeon was sitting beside you, another blanket resting on his shoulders as he read a book. He looked up when he saw that you were awake and smiled. "How are you feeling?" He asked, placing a hand on your forehead to check your temperature.
‘’I’m feeling much better.. Thank you for carrying me,’’ You said softly, grateful for his kindness. The angel just nodded, setting his book aside. ‘’How long has it been?’’ You sat up in the bed, stretching your arms and back. You noticed that your uniform was replaced with a cerulean blue sweater made out of soft, pleasant fabric.
‘’Maybe an hour, maybe a little bit longer.’’ Simeon shrugged. He reached for the tea pot that he previously set on the coffee table, pouring the warm liquid into a cup and handing it to you. ‘’Luckily I brew the tea just a moment ago, so it still should be warm… It's Hellfire Rose tea, Barbatos gave me a bit of the blend the last time I visited, I was saving it for a special occasion." He explained while you observed the light colour gradation of the cup, the corners of your lips pulling up into a smile. The same cups that you gifted Simeon on his birthday a couple of years ago, it made your heart feel warm to know that the angel still cherished your gift.
You took a sip of the tea, holding the cup in both of your hands. ''It's delicious,'' you thought aloud. The scent of the tea reminded you of a sweet perfume, but it tasted much better than you expected. ''How about we call it a day and have a movie night?'' You asked. You opened your blanket, hoping Simeon would understand the hint and join you underneath the covers.
Simeon chuckled, understanding your intentions. He took a seat next to you and draped the blanket over both of you. You snuggled closer to him, enjoying the warmth of his body. "Sounds like a perfect plan," he said, taking the remote from the night stand. "Any preferences for the movie?"
You shook your head. "Nope, surprise me."
The angel pressed a button on the remote, sighing as the darkness on the screen remained. He tried another button, but to no avail, the TV refused to turn on. ‘’Uh.. Solomon taught me how to use it, and from what I remember, it was relatively easy, but this thing isn’t turning on..’’ He pouted, his cheeks burning in embarrassment. You couldn’t hold back from laughing at the scenery.
‘’You need to press this one,’’ You explained as you moved his finger to the power button. ‘’The ones you previously tapped were for volume and switching channels.’’
‘’Ah, I see.. I’ll make sure to ask you next time if I end up forgetting..’’ Simeon nodded, sneaking a gentle kiss to your forehead while you dealt with the remote.
He scrolled through the options, eventually landing on a romantic comedy. You rolled your eyes but didn’t object. The movie started playing, and you rested your head on Simeon's chest, feeling content when you felt his arm wrap around your waist.
As the night went on, you both found yourselves giggling at the cheesy dialogue and cliché moments. Simeon brushed his hand over yours, sending shivers up your spine. "You know," Simeon whispered, "This is a pretty great night."
You raised your head to meet his gaze, getting lost in his ocean blue eyes. "It really is," you replied, feeling your heart flutter.
With a smile, he leaned in for a kiss, and you melted into it. The movie was long forgotten as you both got lost in each other. It was a perfect end for a long day, and you couldn't wait for more days like this with Simeon.
