My Friend the Witch Doctor He Taught Me what to Say

Summary:

Carol goes to audition for a new reality show and uses the song Witch Doctor to make sure she is chosen.

Work Text:

Carol Hopper was nervous. She was about to go onstage for her audition to be on the newest popular singing competition, Sing Your Heart Out. She had been dreaming of this day for over five years, and after much training in singing, and other things, she was ready. If everything went well, she would be on her way to becoming the next big singer.

She walked up onto stage and looked at the three judges. They were like most every other singing competition's judges.

First, was Georgia Grant. She was a popular singer in the late 90s into the early 00s. She was known for her ballads, and her one pop song which, much to her chagrin, ended up being her most popular song.

Next, was David Bagdasarian. He was a popular rapper in the early 90s who went into record producing and was known as a good guy. He donated to charities and helped a lot of poor youths. He was also on his fifth wife though, and it was well known he was a serial cheater.

Finally, was this show's British asshole. Daniel Joseph was another record producer who had found ten women and two men who went on to top the UK charts. He had grown into an early favorite of the fans of the show because he was the only one of the three judges who would tell people that sucked that they sucked. Carol knew that if she could get him, she could get them all.

Georgia saw Carol walk on stage and asked Carol to introduce herself.

"My name is Carol Hopper. I was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and all my life I have wanted to be a singer. My father and mother worked long hours, so I had to take care of my little sister who really enjoyed it when I sang. She and all my family are watching this at home, and I hope that I can make them proud." Carol smiled towards the camera and waved.

"So, let us see what you will be singing?" Daniel said, then looked down at the sheet with her chosen song. "Witch Doctor? The Chipmunks song, well I have never seen someone sing a parody song and get in, but there is a first time for everything, good luck."

Carol closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them backup. Her eyes seemed blacker than they had been before, like her pupil had grown and overtaken her green irises. None of the judges noticed this, nor did the camera, and Carol started to sing.

"I told the witch doctor I was in love with you

I told the witch doctor I was in love with you

And then the witch doctor, he told me what to do"

Carol's singing voice was fine so none of the judges buzzed her out right away. Daniel had expected that he was going to, but he stayed his hand and decided to listen some more.

"He said that, "Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah Ting tang wallawalla bang bang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah Ting tang wallawalla bang bang"

Her singing seemed to be getting better when she reached the chorus. David looked at his two fellow judges and saw that they were just as impressed as he was. He turned back towards Carol and listened to the next verse.

"I told the witch doctor you didn't love me true

I told the witch doctor you didn't love me nice

And then the witch doctor, he gave me this advice"

At this point Georgia was nodding along with the song, soon David and Daniel were as well.

"He said that, "Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah Ting tang wallawalla bang bang"

At this point the people behind the camera were starting to get into the song, the camera operators zoomed in to Carol focusing on her eyes, and the people behind the camera started to clap to the beat of the song.

"You've been keepin' love from me just like you were a miser

And I'll admit I wasn't very smart

So I went out and found myself a guy that's so much wiser

And he taught me the way to win your heart"

The entire room had become entranced with Carol's performance, and she could tell. She put extra emphasis on the next verse of the chorus to get the few stragglers in line with everyone else.

"My friend the witch doctor he taught me what to say

My friend the witch doctor he taught me what to do

I know that you'll be mine when I say this to you"

It was now time to bring it home for Carol. If she nailed this next part, she was certain to become a famous idol.

"Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bang bang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bang bang"

With the crowd entranced by her, Carol continued, she knew it was all but certain she had succeeded, but she still had a bit more of the song to go, and to complete her spell, she needed to finish the song.

"You've been keepin' love from me just like you were a miser

And I'll admit I wasn't very smart

So I went out and found myself a guy that's so much wiser

And he taught me the way to win your heart"

Carol thought to herself that she could not believe this song really did what it said in the lyrics, but she had no problem with it. The day her aunt had taught her that it was a spell and all you had to do was infuse a part of your soul into the singing to make it work was a significant day for Carol. It amazed her that no one else had ever tried to use this song like she was, then again, it did seem weird how popular Alvin and the Chipmunks were sometimes.

"My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to say

My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to do

I know that you'll be mine when I say this to you, oh baby"

Carol then raised her hands and asked the audience to join in. Them singing with her would just add to the spell they had found themselves fallen under.

"Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bang bang

Come on and

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bang bang"

At this point the judges were standing and singing and clapping along. Carol took a quick breath and prepared for the final verse.

"Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bang bang

Hoo, ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bingbang

Ooh eeh ooh aah aah

Ting tang wallawalla bang bang"

Carol took a moment to catch her breath then looked at the judges, the cameramen, and everyone else in the room who were giving her a standing ovation, absolutely in love with her performance.

"So how did I do?"
