“Ughhhhh, motherfucker.”
That was what Rurik Liderc woke up to on a cold Thursday morning. He checked the alarm clock; 6 am, on the dot. He wasn’t expecting his boyfriend to curse him awake so early in the morning, so he rolled onto his side, only to find that said boyfriend was in the bathroom. Once Lotus came back, he sat up in their bed and leaned against the headboard.
“What’s up, everything okay?”
Lotus’s only response was to hold up a pair of shorts…with a blood stain on them.
“Ah.”
“Great way to start my morning. Motherfucker, my goddamn uterus hurts.”
Rurik wasn’t assigned female at birth, so he doesn’t know what it’d be like to wake up in a puddle of your own blood for a week every month, but he can assume that it’s not entirely pleasant. As such, he makes sure to be as physically and emotionally comforting as possible while his boyfriend is dying from period cramps.
‘What helps people with cramps? Caffeine right? Coffee, coffee helps any problem Lo has.’
“Alright, I’m gonna go put on a pot of coffee, flowerboy, whaddya want for breakfast?”
“To be dead- I mean, uh, like eggs or something.”
Laughing at his boyfriend’s dramatic nature, Rurik made his way down to the kitchen. Coffee, with a little ground cinnamon mixed in, went into the coffee machine, and eggs were retrieved from the fridge. Peppers and ham were diced, and 2 omelets were made. Lotus came downstairs right as breakfast was finished, their feet making a little pattering noise on the kitchen floor. They perked up and made a little huff-like noise when they heard the music Rurik was listening to.
“Did I finally influence you enough to listen to my ‘emo bullshit’ music?”
Scoffing, Rurik put their food onto plates on the counter. Right as the line “Kiss me, you animal” played, Lotus laughed quietly, pulled Rurik down for a quick kiss, then grabbed their plate and went into the living room. Rurik followed suit after grabbing his own plate.
“Do you have work today, pretty boy?”
No matter how many times Rurik calls them that, they never seem to get less flustered by it.
“Yeah, my shift starts at 8, that’s in like an hour,” Lotus replied after checking the clock.
“M’kay, I’m working until 5 tonight.”
Once their breakfasts were finished (because Lotus kind of eats like a raccoon), they both went upstairs and got dressed for their work days. With only a little messing around (which involved a lot of kisses), they were both ready for work right on time. Rurik might be irresponsible, but after his time in the military, he's punctual as all hell.
Lotus was always the first to leave, their job being the one with longer shifts. After kissing their boyfriend on the cheek and grabbing their keys, they opened the front door, called out “Love you, see you tonight!” and left for work. A quiet half hour later and Rurik began his walk to his own workplace.
It was a simple morning, but for them, it was the best kind of morning they could ask for.
