Work Text:
You dress a doll however you please, with bows and frills, or in overalls and a sailor’s cap. Underneath, my skin is smooth and shiny. It’s made of porcelain, and my eyes are made of glass. They reflect the world, those eyes, and if I’m given glasses they reflect twice as much. My hair is styled and hard, I think. Plastic and malleable, even my lashes, just as it should be.
Put my knees up, the ballpoint joints on display, and then leave me be to sit. I’ll stay that way unless something pushes me over. It’s meditative really, to sit and stare unblinkingly at the world around me.
There is a large window next to me. I can see it from my place on the bedstand. The dusk is my favorite time of day because I can see the sunset, and it is wild and free like I will never be. The lawn is green and lush outside and the trees are tall and dark. I live in paradise. I am a doll. I am happy.
