“I can’t believe this.” Fauna huffs as she gets into the passenger seat of the car.
“Hey, it’s alright.” Kronii smiles as she starts the car from the driver’s seat. “We don’t know what happened yet.”
“Hah…” Fauna slouches into the chair. “How are you so calm about this?”
“Oh, I’m terrified.” Kronii chuckles, but reaches over to grab Fauna’s hand on her thigh, intertwining their fingers for a moment. “But I trust Faunii, and you taught me to be patient.”
Fauna smiles, raising their hands to kiss Kronii’s knuckles. “Right, right. I just hope it’s not a fight.”
Kronii tightens their hands together as the car starts moving. “Pfft, why would it be a fight-”
Fauna lets go of their hands. “Both hands on the wheel, honey.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“A fight?!” Fauna yells, emotions ranging from confusion to anger to concern.
“Did you win?”
“Kronii!” Fauna smacks her wife on the arm, causing Kronii to flinch and then laugh.
“What? I’m just asking the important questions!” Kronii grins as she looks back to her perfectly fine daughter. “So? Did you?”
“Are you hurt?” Fauna cuts in, shoving her hand on Kronii’s cheek to stop her from talking.
“Mhm,” Faunii responds, looking down at her hand. “My hand hurts a little from punching him.”
“You punched him?!” Both her parents yell at the same time, Fauna completely shocked on one side, Kronii ecstatic on the other.
Everyone in the room stares at Kronii, who quickly clears her throat as she kneels down, opening her arms to pick Faunii up. Faunii’s quick to run into her mother’s arms, who lifts her up effortlessly. “Hide your face,” Kronii whispers. “Pretend like you’re scared.”
Faunii follows her instructions, wrapping herself around her mother tightly.
“Sorry,” Kronii apologizes to the rest of the room, consisting of the principal, the kid with a red mark on his cheek and his parents. “I usually just try acting happy so Faunii doesn’t need to be scared. Y’know, kids.”
Fauna stares at her appalled for a moment before looking back at the other family. “We’re so sorry for her behavior.”
“You don’t need to be.” The boy shrugs, every adult in the room staring at him confused. “I mean, I dared her so.”
The room consecutively blinks, taking in the information.
“Ha?” Kronii breaks the silence first, Fauna still too shocked to even nudge her this time.
“Yeah.” The boy shrugs. “I said that girls aren’t strong, and then I dared Faunii to punch me because I thought it wouldn’t hurt.” The girl in Kronii’s arms turn around to look at him. “Sorry, Faunii.” He finishes. “‘Was wrong-”
He’s quickly pushed back by his mother, who Kronii immediately deadpans at when she immediately reads her personality. “He’s wrong!” His mother corrects him. “That… thing! ” She points to Faunii, causing Kronii to turn her body a little away to instinctively protect her daughter. “That thing must’ve bullied him to say that!”
“What?!” Kronii reacts first, fangs slightly barred in aggression. “That’s impossible!”
“Ah, let’s all just calm down.” The principal offers, giving up on letting the parents and kids handle it themselves. “I must remind you all that this school has a no tolerance rule for bullying-”
“Faunii’s not a bully!” Kronii barks, but is cut off by her wife setting a hand on her arm to calm her down.
“Kronii.” Fauna warns her, and Kronii bites her lip immediately to shut up. “Patience, remember?”
“Right. Sorry, Fauna.”
“You’re saying sorry to her???” The mother interrupts them once again, and Kronii can feel her blood start pumping in anger at the way the woman talked about her wife. “You should be saying sorry to my baby boy for exposing him!”
“Exposing him?” Fauna asks, Kronii letting her take the lead. “We haven’t exposed him to anyone though?”
“Uh, yes you have! What, you really think two women can be a family??”
“Ah.” Fauna understands, and Kronii’s heart starts racing now, but more in fear of her wife. “I see.”
“H-hey, why don’t we just leave now?” Kronii nervously chuckles, worried of what might happen next. “We’re uh, we’re sorry to have inconvenienced you-”
“Yeah.” Fauna says coldly, icy thorns in her words that make Kronii more terrified by the second, Faunii no longer needing to pretend like she was scared as even she notices her mom’s anger grow. “Sorry if we ruined your day. That must’ve been horrible .”
“You bet it is!” The woman yells again, not reading the room. Even the principal, the boy, and the boy’s father seemed to have shrunk in fear, moving further away from the fight. Yet, Kronii stands by her wife, ready to grab her and leave if things get too serious. “You freak show and your little monster-!”
Her hand shoots out towards Kronii, who turns her body to shield Faunii from the impact that never comes. Kronii winces an eye open to see Fauna holding the woman’s wrist tightly, eyes darkened with a piercing glow. Kronii gulps.
“Yes, yes, how horrible.” Fauna smiles, if only to mask what horrors lie beneath. “However, if you even dare to lay a hand on my family, I will make sure you truly learn what real horror is.”
“Okay!” Kronii cuts it off with a chuckle, moving her way in between and forcing herself in front of Fauna’s eyes, reaching down to grab Fauna’s hand. “It’s okay. Let’s just leave. They’re not worth our time.”
Fauna blinks, eyes softening as she looks at her wife and daughter.
“Right.” Fauna lowers her voice, letting her hand intertwine with Kronii’s, Faunii still sitting in Kronii’s other arm. She sends a glare to the principal. “I think it’s needless to say we won’t be advocating for this school anymore.”
The principal stands up, obvious sweat running down their face. “Ah, wait, Miss Ceres, we can talk about that-”
“We can talk after. My family’s - “ She stares daggers at the woman, who is holding her wrist that was still aching from Fauna’s grip. “- a bit tired from today.”
“Right- yes of course-” The principal sits down, taking a handkerchief to wipe some of the sweat off. “Yes, ma’am. You’re free to leave.”
“Mhm.” Fauna nods, still a bit upset. Kronii looks around, biting her lip for a second before leaning forward to catch Fauna in a quick and short kiss that brightens her up.
“Let’s go then.” Kronii smiles, their hands still intertwined as she sets Faunii down to take her other hand and lead them outside.
“Woo!” Faunii yells after they leave the office, tugging on Kronii’s hand to leave faster. “No school!”
“Faunii, quiet down!” Kronii chuckles, letting her arm get yanked out of its socket as Fauna holds onto her other one just a little more tightly. “There are still classes in session.”
“Ah-” Faunii stops in her steps face turning slightly pink, a trait she inherited from Fauna. “Right.”
Instead she walks more quietly, but still trying to pull on Kronii to go faster.
“Hey, Kronii?” Fauna mumbles quietly, wrapping herself around Kronii’s arm.
“Hm?”
“Thank you.”
Kronii grins. “It’s not over yet.”
“Huh?”
Fauna watches as they miss the turn that led to their house.
“Where are we going, Kronii?”
Faunii gasps with excitement from the backseat, causing Kronii to chuckle. “Faunii knows.”
Fauna rolls her eyes. “Alright, then where are we going, Faunii?”
“The park!!” Faunii excitedly bounces in her seat.
“The park?” Fauna echoes, taking a glance at Kronii.
“Well, I figured since everyone else was in school, park’s gotta be empty, right? Take what chances we can get, y’know?”
Fauna smiles at her wife, her heart warming as she slouches into the seat.
“Hey.” Kronii calls from above, causing Fauna, who was nicely settled in between her legs and leaning back against her wife, to look up. Previously, she was merely staring at her hands and the way they fit perfectly together.
“Hi, Kronii.” Fauna smiles, turning her head just slightly to press a kiss to Kronii’s jaw. Out of the corners of her eye, she can see Kronii’s ears turn red, still just as in love with Fauna since they were younger, if not more. “What’s up?”
“Are you okay?” Kronii asks, rubbing her thumb against Fauna’s hands, who was still idly messing with Kronii’s.
“Yeah, just…” Fauna sighs as she looks to the playground, where Faunii was running around with leaves in her hands, spreading them around the ground and trying to build walls out of them. “I know we can’t protect her from everything, but I didn’t want her to see it…”
“Hey, she’s strong.” Kronii nudges her, tightening an arm around Fauna as she lets her other hand continue to be played with. “She’s ours.”
“Yeah… I mean, she also punched that boy, though.” Fauna laughs, guilt embedded in her words.
“I think she learned that from you.”
“Hey!” Fauna slaps Kronii on the thigh, who recoils as she wraps herself around Fauna even more as she laughs.
“See?! You’re always hitting people!”
“And you’re always biting people.” Fauna huffs.
“Okay, that was like, one time when I was a kid!”
Fauna turns her head with a smirk. “Yeah it was also a couple nights ago… and last night… and earlier-”
“You like it though!” Kronii tightens her grip around Fauna again to slightly shake her around, causing her wife to laugh.
“Yeah, yeah!” Fauna giggles as well, turning her head as Kronii slows. “I like you the most.”
“Oh, like?” Kronii smirks. “Gee, thanks, wife. I like you, too.”
“Mhm.” Fauna hums as she settles back into place, going back to twisting Kronii’s ring around her wedding finger. Wife. “I love you, Kronii.”
A kiss to her ear. “I love you too, Fauna.”
Fauna smiles as she reads Kronii’s ring before twisting her own, heart fluttering at the matching messages.
From when our love bloomed,
Until the end of time.
“Mama!” Faunii yells as she runs over to her parents with a handful of flowers. Fauna sits up, opening her arms up to receive her full speed child that runs into her arms, letting Kronii handle keeping them from falling over.
“Hi, sweetheart.” Fauna kisses her daughter’s forehead for a moment before hugging her with one arm and pointing to the flowers with the other. “What’s this about?”
“Can you teach me how to make flower crowns again?”
“Of course.” Fauna grins excitedly as she starts picking some of the flowers from her daughter’s hands. “Maybe you’ll have better luck than your mom.”
“I’m right here.” Kronii grumbles, leaning forward to rest her chin on Fauna’s shoulder as she starts closing her eyes.
“And I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Fauna hums as she turns her head to press a kiss to Kronii’s eyebrow before turning back to her daughter. “Alright, so grab the stem…”
