In March of 2023, Tony gifted Steve and Peggy each Nintendo Switch Lites, knowing that it would be hilarious to watch them try to figure out the small gaming consoles, Peggy being freshly time traveled from 1949 and somehow still being better than Steve at every game they played, from fire emblem: three houses to legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Peggy beat BotW within a few hours while Steve was on a mission.
The one game where they were equals, however, was Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Peggy had done some digging during one of their date nights. "Oh my gosh, Steve, look at her! she's so precious!" Steve looks over at the laptop balanced on Peggy's leg. "Marina...she's cute."
He looks at the cute pink octopus. "I bet I'll get lucky and find her first."
"Oh, you bet huh?" Peggy asks, a mischievous look on her face.
"I bet an oled switch that I can find marina first."
"Really? how many nook miles tickets do you have in storage?"
Steve looks puzzled. Brooklyn (his island) had just reached three stars, where Peggy was finally at a five star rating AND she got Coach to move out last night.
"About...fifty? Maybe fifty-five?"
Peggy laughs and mutters something along the lines of "amateur" and opens her storage. five hundred nook miles tickets. Plus the ten in her pockets!
"Promise the oled?" Peggy giggles. Steve holds out his pinkie.
"I promise."
They start that night, before they know it, its 3 am. Then 4. Then 5. Natasha and Bucky come into the common area.
"Guys, have you been playing all night?" Natasha asks, turning on the lights.
Steve says, in a monotone, "We've been searching for her all night."
Bucky rolls his eyes. "Which villager are you two obsessing over now?"
"Marina." Steve and Peggy say together.
"Good luck with that," Tony chuckles, walking out of the kitchen. "There are only three squids in all of animal crossing. Marina is the rarest one. Peggy, come down to the lab when you can. Peters got a surprise for you."
Peggy glances over at Steve, then her switch. "Bring the switch if you must." Tony says, sighing dramatically.
Peggy goes downstairs, switch in hand, and follows Tony. "First of all, happy almost birthday." He starts, her birthday is in four days.
"hi Peggy, I got you something cool, thought you and Captain Rogers would wanna split it but I heard its almost your birthday and-"
"Peter just get on with it." Peggy groans, the tiresome night getting to her. "Okay, okay. Here." He hands her a small packet of cards. Amiibo cards. Peggy opens the pack open with her teeth. The first card...is a cute pink octopus.
"Oh my gosh Peter-"
"Here, let me show you how to use it."
Peter shows her exactly what to do, even how to time travel to get her desired villagers faster.
She keeps this knowledge...covert...from Steve, and everyone else.
On April 9th, she wakes Steve up with a grin on her face.
"Guess who found Marina at her campsite!"
Steve reaches under the bed. "Guess who already got ya the oled!"
Peggy smiles and they spend the day playing animal crossing.
"Uh, Peggy?" "Hmm?" "Are you seeing a yellow bunny with a zipper on his back?"
Oh, no. It's almost bunny day.
