Two ribbons and a knot

Summary:

Moo and Larisa had been having a sleepover. The taller, Larisa, was quietly scrolling through messages on her communicator. While Moo was contently reading a book. This usually happened once every time they hung out, a quick space for both of them to recharge but still enjoy eachothers company. Larisa usually found silence among friends uncomfortable, but with Moo it was different. She felt comfortable in the quiet around him, she hoped he felt the same too.

Work Text:

Moo and Larisa had been having a sleepover. The taller, Larisa, was quietly scrolling through messages on her communicator. While Moo was contently reading a book. This usually happened once every time they hung out, a quick space for both of them to recharge but still enjoy eachothers company. Larisa usually found silence among friends uncomfortable, but with Moo it was different. She felt comfortable in the quiet around him, she hoped he felt the same too.

Suddenly she had an idea, she grinned to herself and suggested the idea out, looking over at her friend. “Moo! You should let me do your hair all cute. Not that it isn’t usually, but it’d be fun yeah?” Moo was a little surprised by a sudden suggestion. To be fair, Larisa wasn’t the most calm and collected person he knew. However the idea did appeal to him, as long as she wasn’t cutting it what could go wrong?

“Uh yeah sure! I don’t remember the last time someone did my hair other than my moms.” He moved in front on Larisa, sitting on the floor so she could work her magic. She started to run her fingers through his calm, admiring how soft it was. Moo would be lying of he said the feeling didn’t relax them as he sighed into the motion.

Larisa gently brushed out her friends hair with a comb, proceeding to section it out. “My dad showed me some neat tricks on braiding and stuff. So I promise I know what I’m doing.” She spoke softly, being a little focused on braiding.

Moo chuckled slightly at her tone and hummed in assurance. “I wasn’t all that worried. But thanks..” *he moved their eyes to look up at her face, smiling. He was only just getting used to being handled so gently, not that it wasn’t nice. It was just a big change for them. But his moms and new friend made it all that much easier, he could never appreciate them more for that.

The shorter was so wrapped up in his own thoughts he didn’t notice Larisa starting to speak to them. “What did you say your favorite color was? I swear I have the memory of a goldfish.” She spoke with a chuckle. He perked up at the question, what was his favorite color? He liked most of them but a particular one hit his mind. “Hm, I’d say bubblegum pink, pastels in general are nice.” After he finished giving his informed answer, Larisa reached into her inventory and pulled out a pink ribbon, He however could not see what she was doing with it.

Larisa seeing Moo relax a bit made her happy. She didn’t know much about his past but she knew he’s been through a lot, and that’s all she really needed to know. So she liked to see him happy. She has a love for making her friends and family happy and comfortable, making it her personal mission to be her best self for them. Moo was a bit different though, it was like that at first but know she’s learnt to just be comfortable in herself and who she is in the moment. She thinks that’s how her and Moo got so close in such a short time. She hummed while tying the bubblegum ribbon into his hair.

“Almost done, hang tight.” She spoke almost in a whisper she was so focused, wanting it to be perfect. Although she was very proud of herself so she was excited to show her friend. Making one last loop before softly clapping her hands together “aaand you’re done!” She handed Moo her communicator camera.

Moo internally cheered when she finished, taking the camera from her with a grin. Looking into it he could see the two front parts of his hair were braided smoothly and tied back into a half ponytail with the ribbon she had mentioned. It wasn’t much but it meant alot to him. He beamed and stood, his arms were stiff by his sides as they Stimmed their hands up and down* “I- I love it! I’m never ever taking it out.” He hesitated for a moment before giving Larisa a hug.

She was certainly surprised to say the least, but wasn’t complaining. She hugged back with a joyful look on her face. “I’m glad you like it! Tried my best.”.eventually Moo sat back down next to Larisa on the bed they had been on, backs against the bed frame. They both let out a yawn at the same time then chuckled at eachother. Larisa stretched and spoke sleepily, “bed time yeah? We can always have more fun tomorrow”

“..yeah I’d like that. You’ll have to retie the ribbon in the morning.” Moo said with a Yawn, not bothering to really get into bed. He just leaned their head on Larisas shoulder, she didn’t seem to mind, resting her own head on his gently. They both seemed comfortable enough like this to fall asleep rather quickly.

Pearl was getting ready for bed when she walked past Moo’s room. She gave a quick peek in and her heart almost melted at the sight of her son and his friend. “Gem- come here look.” She said in a hushed town, soon her wife strolled over. To which she gasped slightly and giggled, her deer ears flicking a bit.

“Oh they are so adorable.” Gem whispered as she took a camera out and quietly snapped a picture of the sleeping kids. Pearl leaned in and kissed her wife on a cheek, leaning into her. The two slightly cuddled for a moment before closing Moo’s door and heading to bed. While getting tucked in Pearl laughed quietly and spoke, “we really are moms, taking pictures of our kid.” Gem smiled in response, nodding.

“I think we’re pretty damn lucky to have that boy as our son.”
