black, white and all the shadows between

Summary:

SeHun, an incubus to whom nothing really catches his attention, has had a rather unique relationship with BaekHyun for what almost seems like an eternity. But only when their relationship reaches the eyes of the supernatural public must he question why he has not yet lost interest in this pretty cupid who has been with him for so long.

Work Text:

SeHun usually didn't find other people interesting. Much less mortals. They were boring, not mysterious at all; they lacked a spark that would generate some kind of attraction in him.

He had never come to understand how some demons had given up the good hellish life to stay with a human and live eternity together. Those demons were tasteless, humans only served as food. But even for that they weren't interesting to SeHun.

He was an incubus who fed off the sexual energy of any entity capable of intercourse. What, did you think he fed only on humans? Yes, it was fun to fuck them in their dreams or when mistakenly summoned, but they didn't generate enough dark energy in their souls to make feeding off of them satisfying.

On the other hand, angels and demons also generated sexual energy. Although hey, SeHun wasn't particularly a fan of heavenly energy as it was too pure for his dark soul and made his soul feel dull at times.

But still, the demons weren't interesting enough to attract his attention at all either. Maybe SeHun was too hard a demon to please, but he didn't like just settling for little.

SeHun had been wandering the world for a long eternity. He was a powerful demon, not powerful enough to have a rank that would keep him close to Lucifer, but strong enough that other lesser demons bowed to him. And for that reason, he had never been presented with challenges that managed to capture his interest enough to pursue some kind of objective. He simply wandered the world, feeding on human and demonic energies. Time for supernatural beings when they stayed in that dimension passed differently from humans, so he couldn't say he was exactly bored.

Although well, yes he was. It was always the same. Everything was exactly the same.

Until he met him.

"How long are you going to stand there looking at me? Don't you think I can't see you, demon. Your energy takes up the whole room. It's getting creepy."

It was the first time that an angel spoke directly to him without SeHun having spoken first. They used to be above interactions with demons, never stopping to chat unless absolutely necessary (or tempted with dark offers of supernatural sex, but SeHun didn't make those kinds of proposals to just anyone).

Materializing in the middle of the room of that hut, SeHun looked at the angel with curiosity. If there was something that he did not understand and was never going to be able to understand, it was love. SeHun was an incubus, a sexual demon, who fed on dark and sexual energies. It was impossible for him to understand the concept of love; he knew it was necessary so that the human race wouldn't go extinct, but then again, seeing his fellow demons "falling in love" with other beings was simply inexplicable to him.

And this was an angel spreading love. A cupid . It had to be, judging by its vomitous pure energy.

"Are you Cupid?" he asked with amusement.

"How old-fashioned," said the angel, staring at the young woman who was sleeping peacefully on the straw bed in that dark room. "But yeah, you could say I am. I'm just not the only angel of love out there. There are too many of us, and we all call each other different names. Cupid is just a bad generalization."

SeHun approached the angel slowly, his heavy leather boots making a loud noise even though the human couldn't see or hear them. The windows tinkled with every step he took, or at least that was the effect he wanted to produce.

“But Cupid is easier to remember than each one of your names,” SeHun said with a smile that made the angel glare at him. The angel's eyes were emerald green. "When you start memorizing the names, it gets boring."

He gently took one of the angel's small wings. The feathers were soft but they drew back at his touch, as if they had been burned.

"Don't touch them," the angel snapped.

The sneer on his lips was pretty. The whole angel itself was pretty, but then again, all angels were pretty in their own way. There was nothing special about him. Angels were just beautifully made.

However, he couldn't take his eyes off this one.

"And you call me old-fashioned," SeHun argued, "when angels never wear their wings in full view" he sneered, wanting to get another kind of expression from the angel. He looked pretty cute annoyed. "Don't angel wings give away how much power they have? You must be pretty weak for them to look that small. Hopefully they reach your elbows. It's kind of pathetic."

The angel let out a laugh.

"You really are a knucklehead, but I'm sorry to say that I'm only in favor of dirty talking in bed, so please refrain from making those comments because you clearly don't have the slightest idea."

"So if we did have sex, would you let me talk to you like that?"

The angel looked at him defiantly. His face was so cute, like a little puppy. His button nose was blushing pink for some reason.

"Not even in your most dirty dreams will you be able to lay a finger on me."

SeHun narrowed his eyes at him, and began to project his energies towards the angel. It shouldn't be hard to convince him with a bit of magic, clearly the angel was of a low rank, there wouldn't be a problem.

However, the angel didn’t even flinch. Instead he materialized a small pink bow and equally harmless arrows and shot one at the young woman sleeping on the bed. Upon hitting the human, the arrow shattered into a shimmering dust in the air, and SeHun wondered to who he had connected her with that crush. The young woman's energies did not change, so he wondered if even the arrow had been effective. Maybe the little Cupid really didn't have any kind of power.

"Stop wasting your energy on me," the angel told him with a smile. "I am completely immune."

"Because?" SeHun couldn't help but ask. He was curious. It had never happened to him, less with a much less powerful supernatural being.

"Because I believe in love."

And with that said, the angel disappeared without a trace.

Sehun stared for a long moment at the empty space where the angel had been before. Pink and gold shimmers vanished into the air where he had been.

He couldn't help but think that it was appropriate.

"Why don't you stop talking about that cupid? It's the fifth time you've mentioned him. And you never give a second thought to anything at all. Not even sex."

SeHun sighed and took another swallow from his large glass of sweet wine. MinSeok had a point, but he couldn't quite come up with a proper explanation.

He hadn't been able to stop thinking about the little Cupid with puppy eyes. He couldn't even stop thinking about him in that bar full of demons that could have perfectly caught his attention for a night of fun.

"I think he got my attention," he admitted over the noise of the shouting of a fight taking place in the back of the bar. A chair flew past his head, but SeHun didn't even flinch.

"Oh, Lucifer." MinSeok took a big, deep drink of his own beer. There was still fluid on his chin when he spoke. "I still don't know if that's good or bad."

Sehun smiled.

"I'm a demon," he said softly with a grin from ear to ear. "Of course it is bad ."

Feeding on humans was, as always, boring.

Watching them have orgies had stopped being fun centuries ago. Now it was just an easier way to get energy.

And a way to get the attention of a certain cupid.

He had devised the plan one night of utter boredom. He wanted to see that little angel who caught his eye. And he imagined that by gathering many humans in the same place, one would fall in love with another. And that was a job for a Cupid.

His most recent object of obsession didn't take long to appear.

"I should have known you were going to be there," the angel said immediately upon seeing him. He sighed, seeing the large number of naked men scattered around the hall of the impressive palace, pleasuring each other. "Orgies of pleasure are going to go out of style eventually, you know that? When sexual diseases emerge in 1980 it will set a precedent."

Sehun laughed.

"We must not get ahead of ourselves, my little angel, there are more than three hundred years left for that."

"Still, this is unacceptable. You did it on purpose, and you're not even participating."

"Why? Can't you think this is a good thing? They're just having fun because of me. There's a much better chance of love in an orgy, right?" He pointed at the group of groaning men. "This is the good life: sex, pleasure, dark energies. A demon's food paradise. And the perfect time to shoot Cupid's arrows, which is your job. I'm just making it easy for you."

The angel sighed. "You did this just to see me, right?"

SeHun smiled without a trace of innocence in his eyes.

"Maybe." He coughed softly, tearing his gaze away from the angel. "Anyway, they're clean. None of them are sick. Except for a late-arriving guest."

The angel's eyes turned to him.

"You wouldn’t dare."

With a snap of his fingers SeHun materialized a letter stamped with that day's date.

"If you tell me your name and grant me one wish, I'll send this letter to him instantly. He'll know better than coming here."

"You're a knucklehead," the angel complained. He let out a long breath. "You can ask my name without the need to threaten me."

"As you can tell, I just like to be sure that you're going to keep your word."

Despite how exasperated the angel looked, he nodded.

"Send that letter, demon. I'll tell you without the need for threats: my name is BaekHyun, and I'll grant you any wish… except to have a sexual encounter with me."

With a triumphant smile, SeHun made the letter disappear.

"Asking for your name was for the dramatic touch," he replied. "Fine, BaekHyun. My wish is to see you shoot those Cupid's arrows before you allow me to woo you. And since I'm generous, I'll give you the wonderful opportunity to regret not wanting to sleep with me later."

BaekHyun rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of a smile on his lips. Sehun knew he had won. More than a little courtship; he had earned his attention. And soon, much more than that.

His objective was clear.

“Clear the way, demon. I have work to do.”

*

BaekHyun was harder to court than he thought he would be.

Not to mention the fact that SeHun barely managed to chase him around the human world; the angel's energy was weak and that made BaekHyun hard to track. It took several human years before he could really nail something down, though it really took hundreds of heavenly years for him to get close to the angel.

BaekHyun obviously read him from the start, because he knew what SeHun wanted. And though it took a lot of heavenly time, fights over whether or not love was real (SeHun still thought it wasn’t), and arguments over SeHun's innocuous view of love (he didn't even believe in soulmates!), in the end, BaekHyun relented.

It was a moment of absolute glory for SeHun.

"But it's just one time. I'm not an angel of one bed," BaekHyun had warned him. However, his rosy cheeks had given away that he was lying. BaekHyun believed in love; of course he wouldn’t sleep with someone else.

SeHun, on the other hand, wasn’t a demon of a single bed. And yet, every night he would return to that magical scape, far from the human world and other intruders, a place where only he and BaekHyun could access, and he would lie with the angel between the silky sheets, drinking from his body until their exhaustion was bigger than them.

After he slept with BaekHyun for the first time, he didn't give a second thought to anyone else. Every day, his mind was filled with the angel, and he wanted nothing more than to return to his arms and receive more of that overwhelming pleasure.

The angel's eyes, on the contrary, were honest and said everything: they hoped that SeHun would not return to that corner where he always waited for him. The corner that belonged only to him, but where SeHun, a demon, was allowed free entry.

It seemed like every time they said goodbye, BaekHyun put his heart on lockdown. His eyes said everything: if you're not coming back, I must be prepared. BaekHyun probably had no idea how long to wait for SeHun. But in the end, the demon kept coming back, until it became so commonplace that BaekHyun clearly stopped caring. His eyes used to light up when they saw SeHun though, no matter how long it had been since they met.

"You won't have problems with the people in heaven for having a constant relationship with a demon, right?"

BaekHyun always laughed and silenced him with many, many kisses that made SeHun momentarily forget about the passage of time and his not-so-mandatory duties as a demon. It's not like he ever really cared though. And when he was with BaekHyun, nothing else mattered. Perhaps it was part of his nature as a demon to be so carefree. He didn't know and had no interest in finding out.

He still didn't care about anything.

Nothing except BaekHyun.

Sehun thought that after courting the angel for so long, after having sex with him for so many endless days and nights, he was going to get tired of it. He had already gotten what he wanted; he could just walk away, stop chasing him across sea and land to fuck with the angel and move on to something more interesting.

However, he didn’t lose his interest after sleeping with him, but rather increased it somehow.

"Ah, more. Please, SeHun. If you stop, I swear I'll put an arrow in your ass."

"That's not the dirty talk I was expecting," the demon laughed, but the movement of his hips only increased, stealing small moans from the angel. The sounds that escaped from his lips were as delicious and sweet as his mouth. Sehun felt like he could drink the sweetness of those lips forever, they were sweeter than the most delicious wine on earth.

"There". BaekHyun was a surprise in bed: shameless, loud, threatening, with long nails digging into SeHun's back and arms. It's not like it really bothered him; he was a demon of lust, and there was nothing more satisfying to look at than seeing his body full of pleasure marks after sleeping with BaekHyun. "Ahhhh… SeHun. SeHun, SeHun, please, please ."

Sehun never knew exactly what he was asking for, but he always gave it to him. He couldn't get tired or lose interest in this creature who never seemed to get enough. And SeHun always wanted to give him more. More, more and more. Satisfy him until his legs trembled – which used to be after many, many orgasms. The nights seemed eternal to them, in the supernatural world the nights lasted for years, and for them those nights had no end in the pleasure in which they lost themselves. They didn't eat, they didn't drink (not that they really needed to), they just fed on each other, on their lips, on their pleasure.

SeHun always wondered when he would lose interest in that pretty angel who always fell asleep on the bed of clouds and magic after endless hours of sex, rolling in every corner of the sheets between giggles and moans of pleasure.

It didn't look like that was about to happen anytime soon.

"Why do you believe in love?"

The question seemed to surprise the sleepy angel. He turned on the bed until his head was resting on SeHun's lap, his eyes fixed on SeHun from the position. He had been seeing those beautiful eyes for so many years, and yet he never quite got used to the agitation that kind of look caused in his stomach.

"Because it makes people happy," BaekHyun replied.

SeHun laughed, his fingers carefully raking through the angel's brown hair. It was smooth and shiny, as delicate as the silk they lay on.

"You know that's not true. I've seen it: the betrayals, the lust, the losses; and even worse: the lasciviousness, the deceit, the pain. Love is not always happy."

"Maybe. But those are the side effects of love. Those effects are only human." BaekHyun's smile was kind. "The pure feeling of the heart, love, that does exist; it is the pure energy that you cannot see because you are a demon, but I can. I feed on love, like you on dark energy. If love did not exist, I wouldn't be alive."

SeHun stared at him for a long moment. He knew BaekHyun wasn't lying. The angel had never lied to him. However, he couldn't quite figure out what energy he was referring to. SeHun only knew the dark side of energies, that was his nature as a demon.

"I don't understand."

"You don't need to understand right now." Baekhyun smiled. "Better kiss me."

"I can do that," he said, leaning over the angel.

BaekHyun smiled and SeHun wanted to devour him.

*

The club was packed with humans. Gray, white, black, souls of all colors haunted the establishment. SeHun could feel the dark energy of the music, the rubbing of the bodies, the excitement in the environment.

It was the perfect place for a demon, of that there was no doubt.

SeHun closed his eyes, his body blended into the crowd, dancing, swaying. No one could see him, and he could see everything. Especially that angel who shone on the stage for some kind of show that was empty at the time, so the platform belonged to BaekHyun now.

The angel shot arrows from time to time, with a pensive look, as if he were analyzing every detail about the humans he was casting his spell on, the ones he made them fall in love with. SeHun over time had begun to think that it was a divine art. And that it suited him, according to who BaekHyun was: wonderful, pure, sweet, comprehensive, empathic. There was no doubt that he could be a high-level Cupid, that he could be rubbing shoulders with the higher ups, never return to earth again, and stay in the sky away from everything and everyone.

And yet, SeHun wanted him all to himself. For a while now, BaekHyun had started to feel like his.

Their eyes met across the room. BaekHyun didn't seem too surprised to see him there. His expression didn't change, but he got off the stage and quietly approached SeHun. His walk was slow and graceful against the agitated music, as if he wanted to make the demon impatient, and he succeeded.

When he was in front of him, SeHun took him in his arms and kissed him softly on the lips. BaekHyun parted his lips and the kiss became wet, hungry. SeHun's hands explored the angel's body under his white clothes, always dressed in white, he stood out like a white feather falling in the middle of the darkest night. Baekhyun was a ray of light in Sehun's dark life. And not because SeHun was necessarily an evil being (being a demon didn't exactly imply that), but he was a soul without redemption, a being of dark energies that shouldn't be doing anything with a being as pure as BaekHyun.

Although at that moment, that pure being that was shamelessly rubbing against him, knowing that no one in that disco could see them. Humans passed through their figures from time to time, but they didn't feel it, they were on a different plane, one where only supernatural beings could roam.

And BaekHyun was making full use of that detail, cheekily touching SeHun. The demon smiled wickedly against the angel's lips. Why did these types of attitudes become so endearing to him? He adored that corrupt angel, whose soul he only wanted to devour; he longed to bury himself inside him until he couldn't tell day from night.

“You're so hard,” BaekHyun whispered, and SeHun could hear him even over the music.

"It's your fault. You are a demon."

BaekHyun laughed, his greedy hand cradling SeHun's cock with confidence. "Now we switch roles?"

“Yeah,” SeHun replied breathlessly. “Tonight, I am an angel. And you, dear demon, are corrupting me."

BaekHyun laughed, a melody capable of sweetening the most bitter flavors. The angel used to like those games. And SeHun never refused those kinds of opportunities.

Being with BaekHyun was never boring.

"It's true. Still, I plan to corrupt you and dirty your soul, so that you fall in love with me.” BaekHyun's words were firm.

“Demons don't fall in love,” SeHun rebutted, frowning.

He met BaekHyun's eyes. They were like two stars. It no longer mattered where they were. No one could see them, even though the disco was full. It was just the two of them. And they both knew.

The angel fell to his knees, his usually innocent gaze filled with lust. “Don't they really fall in love? We'll see. Because I could perfectly fall in love with you, angel."

SeHun swallowed, feeling a shiver run down his spine. Why was that vision so enticing? BaekHyun's words rang in his ears for a long moment, and he savored them on his tongue. Love .

He gently tugged at his hair, and BaekHyun smiled.

“Then do it,” SeHun prompted. "If you suck me good, maybe I'll fall in love with you too."

BaekHyun pulled down SeHun’s pants, his entire body lit up with so many colors that he looked like a messy artist's palette. And yet, the red was what shone the most in his eyes. BaekHyun almost looked like a demon. But his soul still looked white. Although it was no longer the purest white…

"We'll see how long it takes you to fall."

Those were BaekHyun's last words, before taking him to a limbo of pleasure from which SeHun was unable to get out.

*

"Lately you spend more time with that angel than with your kind."

It was not the first time he had heard that phrase. They had already repeated it several times in recent times.

Of course, time itself was relative for supernatural beings, but SeHun had been rolling with little Cupid for at least several centuries, and he knew that the information had begun to reach the ears of other beings.

The demons had begun to take notice of SeHun's lack of interest in the chaos of the human world. SeHun no longer wandered among the demons, either. He spent his eternal days attached to BaekHyun, taking the sexual energy of the angel (at least that was what everyone believed he was doing, and in part it was), so he didn’t need to descend to meet with humans, and he had no interest in either. And that was strange for a sexual demon: they never settled, always looking to feed on different energies.

An only (and above all heavenly) food source was quite a unique case, but SeHun had always been a selfless demon, so it was not strange that he had no interest in humans or demons. That wasn't weird; the strange thing was that he had a long relationship with an angel, when they never gave demons a second thought.

Rumors about the subject were flying in the ears of the demons

BaekHyun had told him to try to calm the waters, because rumors of all kinds had also reached heaven, and BaekHyun had not abandoned his tasks as Cupid, so the rumors were making his colleagues gossip about him and could cause him problems. SeHun wished that BaekHyun had actually abandoned his duties, so he wouldn't have to be there right now trying to quell rumors.

At that moment he was in the same bar as always, full of demons and other types of creatures not worth mentioning. Minseok was nowhere to be found. This time it was JongIn, an old acquaintance. He wasn't someone SeHun considered trustworthy. He was the one who had brought the rumor about the little time he was with demons, and how much time he spent with an angel.

JongIn was a demon of a lesser rank, just an energy scavenger. He didn't necessarily need to feed on sexual energy; any dark energy around him could serve as food, which made him a rather impure and unreliable demon. SeHun didn't exactly love having him around, and he didn't like him too much knowing of BaekHyun's existence either. However, most of those present that night in the bar already knew it, judging by the looks he received.

Still, at that moment SeHun did benefit from JongIn's presence. He was cunning and talkative. If SeHun said the right things and spread a few rumors, maybe JongIn could spread the news like wildfire and make the supernatural beings forget the fact that an angel and a devil had been tangled for centuries. Although he doubted that it would be so easy to forget. An even bigger rumor would have to surface to cover this one up, but he doubted there would be anything that relevant. He still regretted telling MinSeok about his affair with BaekHyun in such an indiscreet place as the human world had been. The eyes and ears of many supernatural beings were always attentive; it was his mistake in the first place.

Please ,” BaekHyun had asked with puppy dog eyes that SeHun hadn't been able to refuse. So in his frustration, he had kissed him hard and disappeared before he got around to saying anything.

SeHun pushed BaekHyun out of his thoughts again and focused on what JongIn was saying.

"Some say that Satan is not happy with what you are doing."

Sehun felt a sudden knot in his stomach. Still, he tried to sound carefree and uninterested, just like he'd always felt, until that fucking moment when everything changed.

"Incubus can feed on the energies of any being. I was bored, and this angel entertains me."

JongIn leered at him.

"I bet he's really good in bed."

You wish you knew, you fucking piece of shit.

SeHun took a long swallow of his drink. It burned his throat to the point where it was painful. At least it silenced the insult he wanted to say to the demon. He hated BaekHyun for putting him in that position. And yet...

"These drinks get stronger every time," he said to himself. "It burns like hell."

"Apparently, your soul also burns." A woman's voice, soft and dark, came from behind them. "It's gray, like ashes. Before, it was a black hole."

Sehun swallowed hard. "There's still nothing strange about it."

He already knew who was speaking to him. It was Irene, a demon of a higher rank. She was a very powerful incubus, and she was close to Satan. SeHun had known her for millennia. She knew everything.

Irene sat with them at the bar, and a tall shot of red liquour materialized between her hands. She took several sips before speaking.

"There is no rule that prevents demons from being with angels. But you have to think about how your own kind will see you. If your energy dims, you will lose authority. You will be like JongIn."

"I hope you didn't mean to offend me," JongIn said.

Irene ignored him.

"Anyway, SeHun, I know you're not interested in your own kind. But nothing is known about angels. BaekHyun's pure energy must be dulling as well. We'll have to see how long he lasts in his post if he spends much more time with you. And we will have to see what is more important to him. If his position as Cupid, or his strange relationship with you."

Sehun stood up. "You're wrong, Irene. He doesn't care about that. And anyway, his energy is still as pure as when I met him. What you’re saying are just rumors."

Irene didn't look like he agreed with him, but she didn't press. Instead, she shot a lower blow: "Satan wonders if you're no longer interested in being a demon."

Sehun pursed his lips.

"Tell Satan that there are more important things he should worry about in the first place."

"I don't think so. All of heaven and hell is watching your relationship with your lil’ heavenly toy, so I doubt Satan cares too much that you don't want him meddling in your business."

Sehun's mouth went dry. It had been millennia since a relationship between an angel and a demon had been known, he should have assumed that they were on the lips of Satan himself. Probably on God’s too.

“The human world is a very small kingdom,” Irene continued. “Many people have seen you together over the centuries. You cannot deny that the soul of that angel has already been corrupted for a while.” Irene's words came out slowly. “Though we all wonder if you've already fallen for him, too. Even though there's literally no deeper place in hell to go, but you know what I mean."

"I won’t tolerate you talking so much nonsense, Irene."

Irene just creepily smiled.

SeHun growled and vanished from the bar without even looking back. Somehow, he was furious.

He had lied and he didn't know why.

BaekHyun's pure energy had faded. After all, they had sex all the time, and BaekHyun was a pure angel. As much as he continued with his duties as Cupid, having impure relations with a demon was damaging his soul.

Did BaekHyun notice that? Why was he still with him then? SeHun was clearly not doing his soul any good, and was probably causing him trouble at work…

He had so many worries running through his head, that he wondered if all of them could be resolved if they felt something like love. But what was actually love?

*

The lake was calm. SeHun couldn't stop looking at the firm surface, where the sunset was reflected.

BaekHyun was sleeping peacefully next to him, lying on the sand.

He looked really beautiful, at peace. His clouded soul still looked white in the sunlight.

Irene was right, and that made SeHun feel a terrible fear.

Pushing away his fears, he leaned in and kissed him gently on the lips. Lately he found an inexplicable pleasure in that simple action. A kiss with no other intention involved. Chaste, almost sweet. It didn't fit into what humans called "friends with benefits." It made him feel strange. And yet, he couldn't stop wanting more of those kisses.

BaekHyun opened one eye and looked at him with a smile. But he said nothing. Sehun's stomach did a complicated flip. Again, he was worried.

“What?” he said, not liking the silence.

“Nothing,” BaekHyun replied. He was still smiling.

Sehun took his hand and looked away to the sunset.

And yet, he didn't want to get away from BaekHyun. Because that angel had begun to feel like his, and he could no longer imagine spending the rest of his eternal life without him.

Many unspoken words floated in the air, still unpronounceable, both were lacking in courage. Although it wasn't long before they finally dared to say what constantly haunted them.

Only at that moment, the eyes of the entire world were on them.

*

SeHun spent days and days wandering the remote parts of the earth, just thinking.

The nights were spent in BaekHyun's arms, as always, in his shelter.

However, he did not dare to speak.

He was afraid of losing BaekHyun.

What if BaekHyun finally decided that SeHun was just bad for him? They could no longer ignore the fact that the angel's soul had turned gray. He couldn't lie to him anymore. They needed to talk, but he was terrified that it could be the end.

Not only did he not want the sex to stop, because they were more than that. More than friends with benefits. Much more. BaekHyun was his friend, but also his complement. He didn't know what he would do without him. He would be so lonely, and sad, and he had never felt this way before. His mere existence had been enough for him, he had never needed anyone else before. However, he did need BaekHyun now. He had begun to need him over time. He couldn't let go anymore. He wouldn't know who he would become if he didn't have BaekHyun by his side. He didn't want to find out either.

He was really scared of losing him.

The day to speak finally came, and he spoke the words with a hole in his heart. His stomach no longer ached; that pain had risen and settled in his chest, so painful that sometimes he felt like he couldn't breathe.

"You know that I feed off of you, right?"

The question was out of his mouth before he could stop it. He needed to make sure that BaekHyun knew about the consequences of what they had. If BaekHyun knew that his soul was opaque.

If he cared about it enough to walk away from him.

BaekHyun, naked in all his glory, lay lounging on the edge of the bed, his brown hair sliding over the edge of the bed like brown silk. His eyes immediately found SeHun's, sitting on the floor next to the bed.

"I know," BaekHyun confirmed. "You are an incubus."

"Yeah." Sehun sighed. "Before I met you, my soul was black. Very black. Some say it was like a black hole."

"I know," BaekHyun said again. He carefully took SeHun's hand, bigger than his own, and began to play with his fingers. "I remember it perfectly, because it was like that the day we met. And for a long time it was like that. Always so dark, as if one could dive and swim in it."

SeHun watched BaekHyun's thin, pale fingers playing with his. Something was twisting in his chest and he didn't know what it was. But hell, how it burned.

"It's not black anymore," he stated carefully. He remembered BaekHyun's soul, too. White as the feathers of the purest angel. Now it was light gray. He was no longer pure. "And yours isn't white either."

"I know," BaekHyun said for the third time. "It's been forever since it changed color. At first it wasn't too noticeable, but now it's a pale gray. Many angels stop to look at me when they see me."

"And you don't care about it? A while ago you asked me to try and stop the rumors. They must know we're together, shit, even Satan knows. Wouldn't they be able to take away your place as Cupid if your soul darkens even more? I don't want it to be my fault that everything you love is taken from you."

Baekhyun smiled. It was a knowing smile. The kind that SeHun didn't really understand. He couldn't catch what was behind it. He didn't have a clue.

"They get it," BaekHyun murmured. "They understand me. And they don't care about me. They understand everything."

"I don't."

BaekHyun let go of his hand and sat on the bed. His feet dangled next to SeHun's thighs. The demon did not dare raise its head to look at him.

"Why are you so worried about my soul being stained, SeHun?"

"A demon said that it could cause you trouble. I don't want to be the cause of it. Don't wanna make your existence difficult."

"You don't, SeHun. On the contrary. Ever since I met you, my existence has become very, very easy."

SeHun closed his eyes, his heart pounding like crazy. He hadn't felt like this in forever. Except when BaekHyun would open his eyes in the middle of the darkness, and catch him looking at him, as if at any moment he was going to vanish forever, and that terrified him.

It was the same tremor of heart at that moment.

"Why has it become easy, if your soul darkened despite everything?"

"You already know the answer to that."

SeHun supposed so, although hearing it from his lips caused him such immense relief that he thought he might die.

He stood up and turned to look at BaekHyun. Sitting on the bed, he was the image of a corrupted angel. He looked magnificent.

SeHun took him gently by the cheeks and leaned all the way down to kiss him on the lips. BaekHyun's kisses always tasted like sugar. He always wondered if it was because BaekHyun was an angel of love; no one else had that taste.

Maybe love tasted like real sugar, and that was okay.

BaekHyun smiled on his lips and gently took him by the waist. Sehun straddled him, fitting perfectly between his long legs. BaekHyun's thighs tightened around his waist, drawing him closer to him. It was delicate. And so hot. Their naked bodies brushed against each other and they both let out a small sigh that was lost between kisses.

SeHun made love to BaekHyun.

There was no other way to describe it. He treated him gently, carefully, delicately. He kissed him in every corner that he had already kissed before at some point in eternity, and he made sure to kiss him also where he thought that perhaps he hadn't yet. It didn’t matter. He wanted to eat him whole.

He sank into him slowly, drinking in each of his moans. He rocked with him on the sheets, finding a rhythm that stunned them both into a mesmerizing trance. It was fast. It was slow. It was deep.

It was special.

All their nights and days and afternoons and rains were. But that sunset was more. The silk of love wrapped them both for an eternity. It made them cry with pleasure and snuggle together. Their souls were so mixed that the grays were indistinguishable. They had become one.

“I love you,” SeHun whispered over BaekHyun's heart.

It had taken him forever to figure it out, but he did. And he knew that he had not been shot by any arrow of love. The energy had been generated inside him. Baekhyun's every smile made that energy grow until it was so big that it made him fall in love.

BaekHyun, the mischievous little Cupid, smiled. He was sure that that angel would be, forever, the most interesting thing SeHun would find in all of eternity.

"And I love you," BaekHyun replied. "No matter what color our souls are. I will love you in all shades of gray."

SeHun kissed him again, and this time he did it with more love… if that was even possible.

Notes:

It's been so long since I finished writing a story, it feels like the eternity that BaekHyun and SeHun have been together. I still hope you liked it as much as I enjoyed writting it. Thank you so much for reading!
