Chapter Text

Luka was running over the streets. It was raining very hard and Luka was getting soaked. She noticed a cafe nearby and ran inside so she wouldn’t get drenched anymore. She looked around. The cafe was quite cosy, with soft green walls, round, light brown tables and comfortable looking chairs. Luka looked out of the window, and saw the heavy rain. She sighed, deciding to stay in the cafe for a bit till the rain ceased. She looked around. A lot of the tables were already taken, but there was a table in the back which was free. Luka walked towards the table and sat down, leaning her head on her hands. She spaced out for a bit, getting woken up when someone touched her shoulder. She looked up, and saw her friend, Nixie, and her girlfriends, Miyako and Rune, standing in front of her. Nixie looked a bit concerned. “Hey, Lukluk, you look a bit down, what’s wrong?” Luka looked up. “Oh- Hey Nixie… It’s just that I’m really cold because of the rain… Nothing is wrong, I was just lost in thoughts for a second…” “Oh… That makes perfect sense…” Rune said, mist's voice was calm. “The rain is quite a problem at this time of year… We also got quite soaked on our way here…” “Can we join your table?” Nixie asked, a bright smile on her face. Luka nodded, and the three sat down. Nixie and Luka started a conversation, and Rune sometimes made little remarks, but Miyako didn’t open its mouth even once. A waitress came to take their orders and Luka looked up at her. The waitress was weirdly pretty, with short brown hair that didn’t even reach her shoulders, a red sweater and black pants. Her brown eyes were soft and gentle. Luka looked at her for a few seconds, till Nixie shook her shoulder. “Hey, ehhh- Lukluk, she’s asking something.” After Luka also gave the pretty waitress her order, she stared at the table in embarrassment. Nixie giggled and looked at Luka. “I think someone has a crush~” She teased Luka, and Luka’s face turned even redder. Luka shook her head. “N-no… Totally not…” “Awhhh, come on!” Nixie exclaimed, seemingly excited about this situation. “I saw you looking at her! And I am an expert on the field of having crushes, seeing the fact that I got two girlfriends!” Luka covered her face with her hands and spread her fingers on one hand a bit, glancing at the waitress, who was standing at another table now. “I don’t know… What if she thinks I’m creepy…?” “Oh, nonono, I’m not saying you have to ask her out immediately!” Nixie said. “Just try to get her number and become friends!”

It was evening, and Luka was on her way to the cafe. She entered, wiping a few tears off her face. Working as a model has been exhausting lately. Every day, there were several male colleagues hitting on her, and ignoring her every time she said she was a lesbian. She sat at a table and stared at the wood. The colour was nice, and it reminded her of something…The haircolor of the nice looking waitress. She felt a tap on her shoulder. “Hello? Ma’am, you seem to be crying, what’s wrong?” She looked over her shoulder and froze. The waitress girl was standing behind her, looking worried. Luka could now see her name tag, and it read: MEIKO. “Ehh… H-hello…” Luka stammered. “N-nothing’s wrong…” “But you’re crying…” MEIKO said, and then her eyes widened. “OH- I’m so sorry- I shouldn’t be asking you such personal questions. I apologise… Have a nice day.” MEIKO walked away. Luka jumped up and went after her. “Wait!” MEIKO stopped and turned around. “Yes?” “It’s okay…” Luka said. “I didn’t want you to feel bad… Y-you seem really nice, by the way…” She was holding herself back from saying: You’re really pretty. She cleared her throat and said: “Ehhh- well… Bye…” She quickly went back to her table and buried her face in her hands. She missed the chance to talk to MEIKO… She could’ve asked for her number… She looked at MEIKO, hoping for her to come back, but she didn’t. She waited, but the waiter who came to take her order wasn't MEIKO. She left, feeling even more sad than before, but when she was walking home, she suddenly heard rapid footsteps and felt a hand on her shoulder. “Wait!” A voice sounded behind her… MEIKO’s voice. Luka turned around and saw MEIKO standing in front of her, leaning her hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath. MEIKO looked at Luka and said: “I still felt like something was off and I needed to talk to you… Are you okay? You don’t look okay…” Luka stared at MEIKO for a few seconds, the rain drenching both of them. Luka took a deep breath, just looking at MEIKO. “Ehhh- Well… I’m fine…” She stammered. “W-would you like to be friends?” MEIKO asked. “S-sure…” Luka said, looking away, blushing, a bit disappointed that MEIKO didn’t immediately ask to be her girlfriend, but they barely knew each other, after all, and you can’t have everything you want. Maybe it was better like this.

MEIKO came home that evening, looking at her phone. She had been texting with Luka the entire rest of her shift. She was smiling, even though she was drenched by the rain. She looked up and saw her best friend and roommate KAITO sitting on the couch, watching some show on the television. He looked up as well. “Oh- Hey, MEIKO! You’re totally drenched!” He stood up and paused the TV. “I hope you don’t mind, I already ate dinner… You were late and I was hungry…” “It’s fine…” MEIKO said, still smiling. “I’ll make something for myself.” KAITO chuckled. “You seem happy, did something happen?” “Yeah… I guess it’s not that important…” MEIKO answered. “I just made a new friend.” KAITO’s eyes narrowed and a smirk formed on his face. “And who is this “friend”? Was it some pretty lady or handsome gentleman perhaps” He teased his best friend a bit, looking at her with a playful grin. MEIKO went a little red. “N-no… Just a friend… I met her today, KAITO… It’s not like that…” “Okay, whatever you say MEI” KAITO said, still grinning. MEIKO went to the kitchen and made herself a simple dinner. She sat down on the couch and just looked at her phone, continuing to text with Luka. At a certain moment, Luka called MEIKO, and she didn’t mind not having to text anymore and just call, and they called for hours, until MEIKO suddenly got no more reply from Luka, and realised she fell asleep. MEIKO looked up at the clock and realised it was almost 2 AM. She yawned and fell asleep as well.

Luka woke up on the couch the next morning. She noticed her phone next to her and her eyes widened. She grabbed her phone and went to where she could see the last calls she made, desperately hoping it wasn’t all a dream. She smiled widely when she noticed MEIKO’s number on the top of the list of calls. She went to their message chat and messaged her: ‘Hey MEIKO! I hope you slept well, I’m sorry for falling asleep during the call yesterday. I hope to see you again soon!’ As she pressed the send button, she noticed what time it was. She jumped up, she was late for work! She quickly raced upstairs, brushed her hair and went outside. She’d slept in her clothes, so she didn’t have to get dressed. She locked the door and stepped onto her motorcycle. She drove to work and arrived only 2 minutes late. With a sigh of relief, she parked the motorcycle. She quickly ran inside. “Sorry I’m late!” She said, trying to catch her breath after running. She looked up, and noticed that basically everyone was staring at her. She quickly went to the dressing room, and locked the door. Luka was a model, and she was overall quite pretty. She always locked the door, since some of her male colleagues liked to peek into her dressing room while she was busy there. Luckily, the manager was so nice to give her a lock on her dressing room to eliminate this problem. While Luka was busy getting dressed, she noticed her phone lighting up. She took her phone and smiled. It was a message from MEIKO, who had asked her how she was doing. She answered: ‘I’m good, what about you?’ She put her phone down again and continued putting on her outfit for her photoshoot. When she was done, she checked her phone again. MEIKO had answered: ‘I’m good as well! What are you doing?’ Luka sat down on the bench and sent: ‘I’m at work, I work as a model, and am about to go into a photoshoot, so I won’t be able to answer for a bit.’ She stood up and walked towards the main area. She put her phone on a table that she would be able to clearly see, and was just in time to see MEIKO’s message: ‘Okay! Good luck with your photoshoot!’ She smiled and blushed slightly.

It was about 5 PM and Luka was finally done with her photoshoot of the day. She was starving and still had to go home and cook. She was considering going to a restaurant instead of cooking, but that’d also take some time. She stepped onto her motorcycle and drove home. She drove home as quickly as she could, but there was an unwelcome surprise awaiting her when she arrived at home. Her entire house had burned to the ground. Luka stared in horror, and started crying. In that moment of desperation, she did the first thing she could think of and texted MEIKO: ‘This is urgent, what is your address? I’ll explain when I’m there.’ MEIKO replied within 2 minutes with her address, and Luka stepped onto her motorcycle again, and drove to MEIKO’s house, trying to hold back her tears. When she arrived there, she rang the doorbell, but the person who opened the door wasn’t MEIKO. It was a man with blue hair who was about MEIKO’s age. Luka was really close to just breaking down in tears right now, and she just stared at the man. “W-who are you…? W-where is MEIKO…?” Luka stammered. “I am KAITO, MEIKO’s roommate” KAITO answered. “MEIKO is inside… You look sad, are you okay?” Luka shook her head, and at that moment, the sound of a door opening behind KAITO sounded. It was MEIKO, and she quickly took Luka inside. “Luka… What’s wrong?” MEIKO said, worried. The two sat down on the couch, and MEIKO hugged Luka. Luka was unable to talk, she was crying too much. MEIKO slowly rubbed Luka’s back and held her close. KAITO decided to leave the two of them alone and went upstairs. Luka was crying and heavily shaking, and after some time, managed to explain to MEIKO what happened to her house in a shaky voice. MEIKO gasped and held Luka even tighter. Luka started to calm down. After some time, she smiled at MEIKO. “Hehe… You’re a good hugger…” MEIKO blushed slightly. “You mean that? Well, ehh- thanks?” She chucked awkwardly. The two sat there for a few seconds, and then MEIKO said: “Well… I think you can stay here for a few days, since ehhh- You have no house right now and stuff…” Luka stared at MEIKO for a few seconds and then hugged her again. “Thank you!”

It had been about a week. Luka decided to move to an apartment instead of getting her house rebuilt, since it’d be cheaper. MEIKO helped Luka get new clothes and other stuff she lost. But now, it was time for Luka to leave. Luka smiled at MEIKO and waved at her. “Bye, I’ll see you soon!” Luka said, smiling. “Bye…” MEIKO said, looking a bit sad. Luka stepped onto her motorcycle with her backpack with new clothes on her back. She waved and drove away. When Luka arrived at the apartment building, she went to her room for the first time, and sat down on the comfortable couch. She sat there for a bit, feeling lonely. She took her phone and saw nothing. No messages. No notifications. She sighed. She thought she and MEIKO grew a lot closer, but there wasn’t even a message checking if she got home safely. She fell asleep on the couch, and woke up the next morning to a message from MEIKO. It read: ‘I’m sorry for not messaging anymore yesterday. Me and KAITO had a little fight and I wasn’t able to message you earlier.’ Luka softly sighed and answered her: ‘Oh, okay, I’m not mad, don’t worry. You were busy, I understand.’ Luka put her phone down and sighed, thinking of what could’ve possibly happened.

The evening before, when Luka left, MEIKO stayed looking out of the window for a while. KAITO’s voice sounded behind MEIKO: “MEIKO… Don’t be sad, you barely know her, why would you be sad?” MEIKO turned to KAITO and sighed. “I don’t know… She makes me feel safe, and… I felt like it was gonna be over the moment she left… Like we would never see each other again…” KAITO, who hadn’t been able to sleep that well for the last few days, looked at MEIKO. “She’s just some girl, I understand you might like her, but… isn’t it a bit much to be crying like the world is ending?” MEIKO turned to him. “I’m not crying like the world is ending! I just feel like I won’t ever see her again…” KAITO sighed. “MEIKO… She shouldn’t have been here in the first place, what if she wasn’t a nice person!? We would have both been dead!” MEIKO stared at him in disbelief. “K-KAITO… Her house burned down…” “You didn’t know that when you gave her our address!” KAITO said, furiously. It seemed MEIKO was giving all the answers that could make him even more angry. MEIKO stood up and walked towards him, trying to stay calm. “I was just trying to help her…” KAITO sighed. “Helping is not letting a stranger live in our house! I don’t care if her house burned! She probably has more friends than just you! And she’s just some stranger! Why do you think I care about her!?” MEIKO started crying, and KAITO stopped yelling, realising he went too far. MEIKO ran upstairs, crying, and heard KAITO also crying in the living room. MEIKO got ready for bed and layed down, sending Luka one last message for that day. And then, she layed down and tried to fall asleep.

Luka waited outside the cafe the next day, waiting for MEIKO to come outside. She could’ve easily done this via a text but… It felt more real in person… She waited for a long time, and then noticed MEIKO coming out of the cafe with a few other people. MEIKO noticed Luka and waved goodbye to her co-workers. She went towards Luka. “H-hey Luka…” She stammered. “What is it…?” “I have to ask you something…” Luka stammered. She could feel her heart beating in her chest, this was way more difficult than she’d thought. “MEIKO… Do you want to be my girlfriend?” Luka said, looking at the ground, too nervous to look MEIKO in the eyes. MEIKO gasped and stared at Luka for a few seconds. And then she said: “Luka… Of course!” Luka looked up in surprise, she hadn’t expected this answer… MEIKO smiled softly at Luka and hugged her, resting her head against MEIKO’s shoulder, in the arms of the girl who was now finally her girlfriend…
