Chapter Text

Chapter 1: Death

Blood splattered across his face, he knew he should’ve gone with Eren, but his Eren was strong and could take the titan…. It had happened all so fast.

Eren swung to take the last strike, then those hands clawed out. Fast and gashed Eren with three strips on his stomach and swatted his human body like a fly into a tree.

Eren didn't move from his crumpled position, and blood pooled around him, soaking up into the grass.

Then Levi reacted.

He screamed his rage, throwing his broken sword dagger at the monster, using his gear he slashed, cutting it, shredding the monster, watching it fall to bones and steam, his anger felt triple fold as he swung to the next titan, most likely attracted to the smell of blood. Praying to every being that Eren wasn’t dead. Praying that he could gaze into those green blue eyes for all eternity.

Once his squad took care of the rest of the titans he landed beside Eren’s body. Petra had run on the ground and with Oulo’s help they had put Eren propped up on a branch high above them.

“Eren,” Levi said and he saw those eyes he loved so much flicker to him, blood coating his lips.

There was a bloody gash on his stomach, his usually tan skin pale and those eyes held that look.

One he never wanted to see, one he hoped never would happen. Eren was dying, and Levi desperately wished that Eren could heal like a titan if you didn't kill it right. That steam would pour from the wound and Eren would heal. He was only 17, he shouldn't be dying!!

“No,” Levi said, and hugged Eren close, uncaring about the blood, uncaring about everything.

He tasted blood, his own hands on Eren's skin, his pulse pounded strong and he wished that he could save Eren. but they were on a solo mission, only Squad Levi, to attract less titans.

“Win us our freedom,” Eren said and it was his last dying wish.

…..

Levi was cold, he’d never feel warm again, and the ride back was quiet, no one wanted to break the silence, they had all lost someone dear to them, but Levi had lost his love. His life, his reason. He knew soon he might forget the feeling of Eren, that one day he’d be a memory from so long ago… just like how Furlan and Isabel had become…. But for now he wanted this cold, because he knew he’d warm again if he ever felt Eren’s body on his, in his arms, sleeping sprawled out like a kid. Taking up the standard bed they shared back at the base.

They made it to the gates only encountering 2 titans. Levi had leapt from his horse, gear sticking into the tall humanoid beings and roared his grief, his anger. Two piling steaming dead titan corpses lay on the ground, his rest of the squad glanced at him. Pity and something else flashed in their eyes, he didnt care.

They rode through Shignanshina until they stopped at a house that they all had become familiar with.

Levi knocked on the food, his arms held his beauty, wrapped in the white sheets, dried blood had spread where it had hit Eren's body. He held him like he had on the wedding night they had.

He saw the door open, he saw Karla’s eyes widen in understanding and then he saw her break. Tears falling, a fist stuffed in her mouth and the door opened wider and Grisha stood there, his stoic face falling and Levi let them take Eren from him. His arms ached to hold his body and to never let it go.

“Oh god, Levi!” Karla crushed him in a hug, his body hating that someone who wasn’t Eren was doing this. And he didn't mean to but he shoved her off.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I’m sorry i couldn't protect Eren like i promised,” Levi said.

He thumped his fist over his chest. He heard his squad copy it, and then he left. Letting Eren be buried in their traditional ways. He said he’d show up for the funeral and left to report to Erwin.

“Then i’ll kill every last fucking one of them, no matter what it takes,” he vowed.
